For Balenciaga’s fall 2007 ready-to-wear collection, Nicholas Ghesquière created worldly, wearable pieces with influences ranging from Bali to upper-crust England. Before his collection debuted in Paris, Ghesquière explained, “It’s a big mix—a street mix, with symbols and colors that are very multicultural.”
This outfit was one of the especially captivating pieces in a collection where every piece stood out. The jodhpurs-like khaki pants and military-style jacket wouldn’t look out of place on a foxhunt, but the crayon-colored, bumper-car heels, red turtleneck, and yellow-striped piping bring unexpected flourishes to the clothing. Each item could be worn separately or together, and one day the pieces from this well-received collection will be collector’s items.
