On September 15, MTV and Lauren Conrad will unleash a 40-piece collection that will launch on www.shoplaurenconrad.com, which is not yet up and running. The collection, debuting at the Las Vegas PROJECT trade show, will feature designs that represent her signature and classic L.A. style seen on the popular MTV series The Hills.

In regards to the inspiration behind the collection, Lauren has said, “I grew up at the beach—most of my clothes are something you can layer with a bathing suit. In high school you wear a bikini under your clothes. Laguna Beach is a beach town, you know? Once I moved to the city I had to toss out my flip-flops and step up my style to make it look more polished. But I still love the bohemian beach look. In my line I really wanted to combine the two—there are pieces in there that I would wear over a bathing suit to the beach, but I’d also wear that same piece with layered jewelry and heels to a club.”
Other celebrities recently attempting fashion design are Paris Hilton, Kate Moss, and tennis super-star Maria Sharapova. They however, have no formal knowledge of design where as Lauren actually attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. So with some formal schooling, coupled with her experience working for apparel company Three Dots and an internship at Teen Vogue, I have high hopes for Ms. Conrad and MTV.
