Fall fashion pick of the week #5: Sweaters

By Andrea Thatcher on September 28th, 2007 0 comments yet. Be the First

fall%20sweaters.JPGThose chilly fall days aren’t here, yet, (hey, I’m not complaining!) but they will be soon, so here are some great daytime sweaters to wear to the office, shopping, lunch with friends–anywhere not too fancy. This first pick is a BB Dakota cable-knit tunic (left) for just $36.90. It looks chic with jeans with or without a long-sleeve tee underneath, and can even be worn as a dress with black or charcoal tights.

My next choice for the season is a long cardigan from H&M for $59.90. Wear it on its own with jeans or leggings or layer it with a cute tee underneath–either way, it’s a trendy must-have. The last item (right) is a Helen Welsh cape-inspired sweater for $80–I love the new take on a top trend. And the cape style cinched by a wide belt looks awesome.

Fall Fashion Pick of the Week #4: The cape

By Andrea Thatcher on September 27th, 2007 1 comment

fall%20capes.JPGThe cape is huge this season, and a great fall must-have for all those chilly, but-not-yet-freezing days. So, I’ve come up with a selection of chic styles to keep you fashionably cozy. The first two, above, are lighter designs to wear now through mid-fall. The cape on the left, is a cute and comfy Echo buttoned-down chunky capelet for $98. I really like the big, bold buttons and the over-sized, folded-over turtleneck. On the right is the adorable Portolano ruffle-edge cape for $250. A bit more expensive, but the ruffles and horn-shaped toggle buttons are so sweet, I couldn’t resist. Check out more, warmer-styled capes at the jump.

For chillier days, we’ve chosen a classic Michael Michael Kors flyaway capelet–very similar looking to the ever-popular pea coat for $99.50. Fashioned in 70% wool, this classic piece of outerwear will definitely keep you warm. The exquisite style in the center is a Cejon wool-blend cape in herringbone for $148. As you can see from the picture, it looks very chic with jeans and long black leather gloves, and can also be dressed up with a curve-hugging sheath dress or pants suit for going out to dinner or meeting for cocktails. This last, military-style pick is the Spiewak Helena cape from Urban Outfitters. It has downtown, urban appeal and is seriously trendy–own it for $150.

    Hallo.
My name is Theresa Schleicher and I’m fashion journalist of a german magazine. At the moment I’m writing an article about capes.
I would like to ask, if I can have an admission for using the picture with the two women, dressed with capes.
    Thanks a lot. Theresa Schleicher

Fall Fashion Pick of the Week #3: studded, metallic satchels & over-sized clutches

By Andrea Thatcher on September 26th, 2007 0 comments yet. Be the First

fall%20handbags.JPGThe IT bags this season have lots of stud detail and patent leather and metallic shine. Especially big are the medium-sized satchel and over-sized clutch. This Kathy Van Zeeland satchel (left) from her Bling It On II collection is designed with croco and rhinestone accents for ultimate shimmer–perfect for day or night for just $79.00. Or, get the sassy downtown look with a GUESS “Gloss” hobo bag (left-center), jam-packed with lustrous hardware and glossy imitation ostrich trim for $85.00. For a more classic look, Elliot Lucca also makes a great Status metallic woven hobo bag (right-center) for $198.00. But if you want to go all out, then I recommend this gorgeous Isabella Fiore Pump Up The Volume pewter satchel (right) for $650. Its dark silver leather, antique silver hardware, twisted top handles, and pom-pom detail make a fablously chic style statement. Go to the jump for our top over-sized clutch picks.

fall%20oversized%20clutches.JPGThe black patent leather accordian clutch from Nordstrom (left) is ultra sleek for a night partying it up. It features pleated leather beneath a faux buckle detail with goldtone hardware for $78. My favorite is the Marc by Marc Jacobs gem embellished clutch (center)–I can’t help it, I just love Marc Jacobs! Perfect for day and night, the chunky gems surrounding the Marc Jacobs logo add just the right touch of ornate glamor. Make it yours for $218.00. Or shine like the diva you are with a Be & D Greta black patent ruched leather studded clutch (right) for $635.00. Complete with a large faux buckle studded strap on the front with the Be & D logo, this clutch his hot & spicy!

Fall Fashion Pick of the Week #2: Sequin dresses from $27.80 to $790

By Andrea Thatcher on September 25th, 2007 1 comment

sequin%20dresses%20for%20fall.JPGSequin dresses for evening wear are huge this season. So, I’ve gathered a collection of eight shining styles to meet budgets across the board–from low-end, but still chic Forever 21 to mid-range of around $200 to high-end, designer dresses over $400. The first dress on the left is a sequin baby doll dress from Forever 21–very cute, yet sexy at the same time. The next dress is a hot, young As U Wish sequin tube dress from Nordstrom for $54. Or, if you want to go more sophisticated, try the mid-range Quotation black sequin-trim dress (mid-right) from Bloomingdale’s for $178. My favorite is the Sean Collection sequin corkscrew-hem cocktail dress (right) for $266. The long flowy tendrils at the bottom give it such a glamorous look! Go to the jump for fabulous high-end sequin dresses.

high-end%20fall%20sequin%20dresses.JPGThe Yoana Baraschi sleeveless sequined tank dress (left) is very ’20s flapper-ish–I love that this style has come back. And shimmering pewter is definitely in right now–get it at Neiman Marcus for $420. I couldn’t resist including this BCBGMAXAZRIA sequin sheath (mid-left), it’s so sleek and sexy, and the chiffon empire-waist tie adds a touch of elegance–make it yours for $440. Or, hug those dangerous curves in a classically designed Alice & Olivia sequined pencil dress (mid-right) for $495 from Saks Fifth Avenue. Finally, make heads turn in this gorgeous Carmen Marc Valvo sequined halter dress for $790. This sassy, iridescent dress glimmers with tiny, all-over sequins and a silk chiffon twist-top neck.

Fall Fashion Pick of the Week #1: BCBGirls Tate booties

By Andrea Thatcher on September 24th, 2007 0 comments yet. Be the First

BCBGirls%20booties.jpgFor the entire week, we’ll be selecting great fall finds to keep you on trend this season for as little bank as possible, while still looking fabulously fashionable. Today, I’ve selected these very chic BCBGirls Tate Pewter Metallic Kid leather booties at Nordstrom for $128.95. The pewter color is perfect to keep you shining strong ’80s-style without causing a melt down in too-bright silver boots. I really like the plunging collar-line–it creates a dramatic, super sleek look. Plus, the 3 3/4″ heel isn’t too high, so they’re still bearable to wear out around town. But be careful, you might want to get them in a slightly larger size, I hear they run a half size too small.
