Jayson Brunsdon, renowned Australian designer, brought his spring/summer '08 sleek designs, bold colors and Asian prints to the New York fashion scene last night. Inspired by the iconic novel and cult film, The World of Suzie Wong, and the influence modern China is having on global culture, Jayson based his shapes and prints from Chinese pajamas, mandarin collars, and coolie suits. His modern take on traditional Chinese calligraphy, bamboo, and blossoms create a fabulous, unique look. The colors he applied—from red to yellow to green to persimmon—were evoked by the vigor of Bruce Lee’s classic films of the ’60s and ’70s. Although he was awarded the Australian Eveningwear Designer of the Year 2007 by Harpers Bazaar Australia, Jayson’s collection included only a few evening gowns. But his dress designs were spot-on for daily elegant style. You can find his line in the U.S. in upscale department stores in over 20 states, such as Neiman Marcus and SAKS Fifth Avenue.
