New York Fashion Week: the sea inspires Tadashi Shoji

Flowing dresses and water colors were a big part of the Tadashi Shoji show, following the designers show notes quoting Jacques Cousteau and referencing the “infinite seas that have long nourished daydreams,” but these pieces weren’t really the highlights of the collection for this viewer. I much preferred the darker hughed pieces, and the stunning lace dress at center, left, in particular. Check after the jump for more pictures and show video.

Appreciating the inspiration for the colors above, aegean blue, opaline, sea foam, and cerise, with the large flowers, I’m still afraid the dresses look a little bit like bridesmaids gowns gone awry. When paired with a more modern silhouette, like at right, it works much better.
