On Tuesday September 18th, British designer Duro Olowu showed his second-ever runway collection during London fashion week. The Nigerian-born designer created a collection of bell-sleeve trapeze dresses, gingham blouses, busy prints, ruffled necklines, and jade, jade, jade. The collection was pulled together nicely and very consistent, but the clashing prints on some items aren’t for everybody and it’s more likely the nicely tailored jackets and pants will sell to a wider audience.

The company of the late Gianfranco Ferré announced today that Swedish designer Lars Nilsson will become the new head designer. According to WWD, Ferré, owned by Italy’s IT Holding, presented its spring-summer 2008 collection in Milan Monday night, designed by an in-house team following Ferré’s death in June at age 62. Nilsson is expected to show his first collection in January during Men’s Fashion Week in Milan, followed by women’s wear in February.

I just adore Alexis Bittar! I’m not the only one, am I? Check out his hand-painted, hand-carved gold snake cuff adorned with citrine eyes. It’s so amazing and worth every dollar–in this case $135 and available at Alexis Bittar. He just has such an amazing background…much like an emerging designers fairytale coming out! In 1990, he started his line of lucite jewelry using turn-of-the-century talique glass and shortly after, his line of stainless and lucite furniture was being shown at the Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC.

If you love Internet shopping, but are also a huge fan of great vintage store finds, Posh Girl Vintage is the webstore for you. Poshgirlvintage.com was voted Best Vintage Site in the January issue of Seventeen Magazine, but the store isn’t just for teenagers. You can find sweaters from the ’70s, ’50s era prom dresses, and designer trench coats from the ’40s. Prices range from around $50 to $300.

Sequin dresses for evening wear are huge this season. So, I’ve gathered a collection of eight shining styles to meet budgets across the board–from low-end, but still chic Forever 21 to mid-range of around $200 to high-end, designer dresses over $400. The first dress on the left is a sequin baby doll dress from Forever 21–very cute, yet sexy at the same time. The next dress is a hot, young As U Wish sequin tube dress from Nordstrom for $54. Or, if you want to go more sophisticated, try the mid-range Quotation black sequin-trim dress (mid-right) from Bloomingdale’s for $178. My favorite is the Sean Collection sequin corkscrew-hem cocktail dress (right) for $266. The long flowy tendrils at the bottom give it such a glamorous look! Go to the jump for fabulous high-end sequin dresses.

I’m all about big sunglasses. Not only do they look chic, but they also protect your eyes and face from the sun’s harmful UV rays. These Oliver Goldsmith Tak 1969 sunglasses are the quintessential over-sized Italian frames that made this shape famous in the 1960s. With 400% UV protection and two different styles to choose from, the $370 sunglasses are next on my list for hot eye gear.

Yanuk Denim was really popular about seven or so years ago. But then it disappeared. I’m sure the growth of the denim market had something to do with it. In a matter of a year we were deciding between Seven, Citizens, Rock & Republic, Antik Denim, Joe’s, Paper, Chip & Pepper, James, etc, etc. But now, Yanuk is back and based on their old popularity, I bet they’ll do well. Apparel maker Blue Holdings, the same company who makes Antik Denim, Taverniti and Faith Connexion has now added Yanuk to their list of brands. The new collection was introduced last week at the Coterie trade show in NY and rumor has it, it went well. I guess this spring, we can add another pair of jeans to the pile. These, however, are old faithfuls.

These Hello Kitty cashmere sweaters by Victoria Couture are so adorable and as cozy and cuddly as Hello Kitty herself. For all of you girlie girls who worship the Patron Saint of Cuteness, this sweater is a sweet treat. I personally love Hello Kitty so much, I have a Hello Kitty Infiniti, complete with a rhinestone license plate holder, Hello Kitty steering wheel holder, seatbelt covers and the whole nine yards. My car is so overly girly that only the most courageous and brave of men dare drive it. I am in good company though, as Paris Hilton, Mariah Carey, Cameron Diaz, Heidi Klum, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore, Perez Hilton and Lisa Loeb all wear Hello Kitty.

If plans for Paris travels aren’t on the schedule for this year, decking yourself out in Parisian colors can be just as satisfying. Marc Jacobs seems to have a taste of European refinement on his mind this season, offering a fresh lineup of exaggerated silhouettes and streamlined dresses and coats. The Trompe L’oiel dress is a smashing contrast of red and navy, a clean-cut number with an illusion of a waistcoat sewn on the front.

Zac Posen has been the “it boy” of the fashion world since making his runway debut at the Gen Art Fresh Faces in Fashion show in 2001. This blue gown stood out even amidst numbers of other show-stopping dresses. Even among turquoise pleats, ruffles, and layers, the dress showed off model Liya Kebede’s fantastic body and reminded one of the rippling Mediterranean Sea, a perfect inspiration for summer.

Ever since “Sex and the City” went off the air a few years ago, something has been missing in the lives of many single and fabulous glamor girls in Manhattan and across the country.
