LRS Design: classic pearls with a twist

By Elaine LaPersonerie on September 19th, 2007

pearls.jpg

Maybe you’re just not a pearl girl. Even though you inherited your great-grandma’s, you still feel a bit too “first lady” when they’re around your neck. So, instead of traditional pearls, switch things up with this gold sprinkled pearl choker from LRS Design for $285. It’s sure to keep things a bit more contemporary! Great when paired with jeans and a drop-neck tee, it also perfectly complements an elegant evening at the theater or wedding. The entire LRS collection features a fun variety of necklaces, earrings and bracelets made with gems, pearls and precious metals.

Trump family launches the Trump SoHo hotel condominium

By Andrea Thatcher on September 19th, 2007

Trump%20SoHo_press%20conference.JPG
This morning marked the official launch of the Trump SoHo Hotel Condominium New York at 246 Spring Street. Amidst a slew of protestors from the Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation, and a swarm of camera crews, the Trump family (Donald, Don Jr., Ivanka and Eric) held a red carpet press conference inside the construction zone in what will soon be the entertainment area. Ivanka Trump was looking like the stylish business woman that she is in a sophisticated dark gray button-down collared dress and sporting her own jewelry line with a diamond-studded bracelet. Donald and sons of course in tailored black business suits with red or blue power ties. Go to the jump for more about the new Trump hotel and more pictures of the event.

London Fashion Week remembers Isabella Blow

By Andrea Thatcher on September 19th, 2007

Isabella%20Blow.jpg

The fashion elite came out to pay tribute to Isabella Blow yesterday at a special London Fashion Week memorial service. Naomi Campbell, Stella McCartney and the always colourful Zandra Rhodes joined designers, models and even royalty (Princess Beatrice and mum Fergie) to honor the late, great British stylist who passed away in May. Although many questioned the whereabouts of Alexander McQueen who was essentially discovered by Blow and failed to appear.

Yay or Nay

Moschino sandal: yay or nay?

By Elaine LaPersonerie on September 19th, 2007

It’s a sandal right? Or a pump? Actually, maybe it’s a slingback! Oh no wait, it must be an open toed sha-bootie! Actually, now I’m really confused. What IS this? This “what is it?” style can be found in every store and I’m just not in love! For example, this gray Moschino pair is being described as a “sandal” and is available for $440 at Nordstrom. But it’s a hefty investment for a shoe that is still searching for an identity. What do you say? Yay or Nay?

Lauren Conrad’s sweater wrap

By Andrea Thatcher on September 19th, 2007

lauren%20conrad%20wrap.jpg
Whether or not you watch MTV’s “The Hills” you probably know who Lauren Conrad is. She made her reality TV debut on “Laguna Beach” and is now falling in line with every other celebrity by designing her own clothing label. Oddly enough, the line is simple and classic and might actually do well by the looks of it. I’m in love with the Katherine Wrap. It can be worn several different ways and is perfect for fall. This $140 sweater is available in navy, black, ivory and burgundy.

At the world premiere of The Kingdom, September 17, 2007 at Mann’s Village Westwood in LA, luscious lady in red Jennifer Garner arrived wearing a two-tiered gorgeous dress gathered to the left shoulder, with a gold purse and gold jewelry. Plus, look for Jennifer this fall on opening night, November 1, when she lights up Broadway opposite Kevin Kline in Edmond Rostand’s Cyrano de Bergerac, as Roxane, in a 10-week limited engagement at Richard Rodgers Theater, as mentioned in Broadway.com.

Houndstooth dress from Banana Republic

By Elaine LaPersonerie on September 19th, 2007

Last night I suffered a bit of a fashion emergency. I had to run uptown to an engagement party and just figured I’d surely have something to wear. Yeah, well I didn’t. Or at least nothing that was working for me. So, I went for the quickest and closest solution: Banana Republic. I prayed all the way there they would have something fun, a little dressy and not tack another huge charge on to my credit card. And surprise!! I found this brown and beige knit jersey houndstooth dress for $138. Not bad, right? With the gathered sleeves and sexy neckline I really felt feminine and a bit Marilyn Monroe-ish. The straight pencil skirt is very trendy and paired with a brown pump, I was out the door! This dress has now made an easy, affordable home in my closet.

Low-to-high boot picks for fall

By Andrea Thatcher on September 18th, 2007

fall%20boots.JPG
I am a huge boot fan, so whenever the weather starts to cool off, I try to pick up a few new pairs. Not only are boots are great way to turn an average outfit into a complete look, they’re also more comfortable than pumps and the knee-high ones are great for covering up your legs, whether you’re too lazy to shave or they’re just your least favorite body part. For knee-high boots, try a pair of gray Melinda boots (left), only $80 at Bakersshoes.com. Gray is super in this season, so match them with a gray chunky knit sweater or scarf. For a more dressed up look, go with this pair of Michela boots (right) from Aldo for $180. The shiny silver zipper reminds me of the exposed zipper dress seen on Chloe’s fall runway

Christopher Kane robbed right before winning Scottish fashion award

By Andrea Thatcher on September 18th, 2007

Last Tuesday, September 11th, Shiny Style reported that Christopher Kane had won the designer of the year award at the Scottish Fashion Awards. Now we learn that winning that prize must have been very bittersweet for him. According to Fashion Week Daily, Kane and his sister were on their way to the fashion awards when they stopped by Kane’s East End studio, only to discover that it had been burglarized. The burglar bypassed two security code protected doors in order to steal twenty-three pieces from his upcoming collection, mostly cashmere and leather, along with a laptop. Kane’s spring collection premiered today during London fashion week, so it’s safe to say his team was able to work around the clock until to recreate the stolen looks.

Red Manolo Blahnik stitched pumps

By Andrea Thatcher on September 18th, 2007

manolo%20stitched%20pump.jpg
There’s something very cartoon-like about these shiny red Manolo Blahnik stitched pumps. The open-toed three-and-a-half-inch heels have black contrast stitching that runs all the way around the heel and meets with two button embellishments at the toe. I want to rock these $645 power heels with a pair of dark denim skinny jeans and a flowy black top for some cocktails after work.

Catch Catwalk Queen’s day four coverage of London Fashion Week

By Andrea Thatcher on September 18th, 2007

London%20Fashion%20Week.JPG
The writers and editors of Catwalk Queen are super busy high-tailing it from one fashion show to the next to bring you top coverage for London Fashion Week. Don’t miss their latest reports for day four. Much more outlandish and flashy than the designs from New York Fashion Week, you don’t want to miss these styles. Some of my favorites so far are Luella Bartley, Eley Kishimoto, Peter Jensen, Ashley Isham, Margaret Howell for her quintessential British looks, and a few newer names such as Louise Goldin and Christopher Kane.

French designer Zadig & Voltaire sue Gap

By Andrea Thatcher on September 18th, 2007

Zadig%20%26%20Voltaire_Gap%20T-shirts.JPGWhat’s going on with all the lawsuits in the fashion industry, lately?? I’m not sure if this Gap shirt (right) is exactly the shirt in dispute, but it was from their European collection, and the only shirt I could find that was similar to Zadig & Voltaire’s Tunisien style (left). But even if there is a more closely matched style, I don’t understand how a designer can sue for “counterfeiting and unfair competition” of a T-shirt with a button-neck collar! It’s a T-shirt for crying out loud–I’ve seen a million like it since my wee days of shopping from the stroller. I can understand if it was some intricately designed gown that had the exact style, cut, color and fabric copied, but I think this is getting a little ridiculous. Just because you sell a T-shirt for 79 Euros (over $100!), you’re mad that someone is selling something similar for half the price (29 Euros or $40), which is what it’s actually worth. What do you think?
