Claudia Ciuti discusses the "it" quest and shows us her new collection
Accessories designer Claudia Ciuti, best known for her stylish, ladylike shoes in amazing Italian materials, invited us into her showroom during New York Fashion Week to chat and check out her upcoming collection. The spring line puts a lot of focus on shine with pearlized, metalllic or metalized leathers and/or silicone finishes. The shoes are, as Claudia puts it "100% not made in China" and 100% made in Italy, where Claudia grew up, learned the family shoe business and went to fashion school. Her family connections give her access to the best tanneries, heel makers, and manufacturers in Italy, with whom she can collaborate on the best colors and leathers, and exchange ideas. "I can walk into these places and learn the newest leathers and finishes and even make modifications," she said. Continue reading for a look at shoes from the spring line and more from Claudia.
Many of the metallics for spring feature a crackled finish over suede developed by Claudia, so it's buttery soft for a crackled leather. This season Claudia used the names of flowers, in Italian of course, for her shoes. "I am an elementary skill gardener, I got that from my mother. And I try to teach some Italian."
Claudia even has styling advice for her clients: "Use the shoes and the handbag as the accent, a cobalt blue pair of shoes would be your accent to a black outfit and black coat," she said. "Many of my shoes have flashes and accents for which women get compliments on the street - which my customers like and is why we have people coming back."
Her parting wisdom?
"Have fun with your feet. Find the comfort and quality you need, but also have fun."
