Lauren Conrad and Nicky Hilton stir up the goss at L.A. Fashion Week
LA Fashion Week is kind of the you-know-what stepchild of the fashion weeks. Sure, it's sunny and fun, but as far as editors and celebrities it's typically very c-list. But that's been changing in the past few years.
However this year, an even bigger celeb-centric presence has meant that tensions have risen within the ranks of the designer mainstays and they've got the claws out.
The week so far has seen the likes of "The Hills" star Lauren Conrad and heiress Nicky Hilton gathering the column inches as they showed designs, and even Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin will get in on the act on the last day, debuting her lingerie collection.
Fashion Week regular Sue Wong is one mainstay who decided not to show at Smashbox studios this week (another significant absence is Ed Hardy), instead staging a private show at her restored historic mansion.
She called the increasing trend for celebrity designers "bogus" and went on to say "I don't believe in reality TV stars turning into designers or a music mogul or a flash-in-the-pan turning into a designer."
She continues: "It's all about merchandising and them trying to capitalize on their 15 minutes of fame. I don't think those kind of houses can be taken seriously. What can be taken seriously is a real, bona fide talent."
