With fashion trade shows like StyleMax and Coast hitting Chicago this weekend and next, the second city is in the style spotlight. See what Chicago retailers are predicting for fall – especially if you live in Midwestern locales that may follow suit – or skinny pant, as the case may be.
Skinny jeans and pants are indeed still popular, since forgiving tunic tops aren’t going anywhere.
“When skinny jeans were all the rage, they didn’t do as well as they did on the coasts,” Emily Helfrich, ownder of Cinnamon boutique in Lakeview, told WWD. “In Chicago, it takes longer to catch on. With all those tunic length tops still around, they just look so much better with a slimmer leg.”
Ikram Goldman, owner of Ikram on Rush Street, has quite a wish list. On it are Proenza Schoulder’s sequin top and pants and Thakoon’s sequin jacket and skirt in mustard when it’s time to pull out the glitzy glamour. She also loves Balmain crop tiger-print jeans, Halston knit duster cardigans, an Azzedine Alaia handbag and red patent kitten heels from Lanvin.
Knee high boots and fur-trim outerwear will help keep midwesterners warm this fall according to Jim Wetzel, co-owner of Jake which has two locations in Chicago and one in suburban Winnetka.
