Gap to consolidate GapKids, babyGap, GapMaternity and GapBody stores
Looks like Gap bit off more than they could chew with all their real estate holdings. Much like Gap, Banana Republic, Old Navy and Piperlime recently consolidated their online shops, the retailer will be consolidating its sub-brands into its regular Gap stores.
GapKids, babyGap, GapMaternity and GapBody stores will soon be closing down and their merchandise being redistributed to regular Gap stores.
"We want to put those together with the adult store, unless there is a certain location where it makes sense for those stores to be there," Gap CEO Glenn Murphy told WWD. "It is easier to run; one management team, one lease to deal with. The variable expenses make more sense, the coverage between people in the stores makes a lot more sense."
While this will be good for the Gap Inc. company and possibly even for customers who can fulfill all their Gap lifestyle needs in one store, it will probably mean the loss of a lot of jobs.
The GapBody Supersoft lace-trimmed cami above is available for $24.50.

That's funny because at the (big) mall near me, they just kicked out The Limited and GapKids moved in (a much bigger space than their original).
