Shopping for jewelry is one of the more intimidating areas of retail. Even for a more modest piece you’re left asking a store assistant to take things out of a case to think about and try it on in front of her with her two cents thrown in where you don’t need it.
That’s why we love shopping for jewelry online, and were excited to learn about St. Kilda’s new online shop. Read on to see what we thought.
The online shop at St. Kilda is very easy to navigate and the selection is well edited.
However it is difficult to get information on shipping and returns without actually placing an item in your cart and going to check out.
The cheapest shipping option is $13.50, which is steep considering the weight of most pieces of jewelry. They don’t ship internationally via the Web site, but international customers can simply call 718-398-4459 to place their order.
Also, you only have 14 days to return an item you’re unsatisfied with and you must contact the company to obtain a return authorization number to do so.
But these are the same small inconveniences you will run into with any small independent retailer, online or not. Since small companies don’t have the resources of larger corporation, they often can make these services as easy or affordable.
But you’re getting a really unique, handcrafted piece of jewelry. It may not be as convenient as Banana Republic, but it’s a lot more special.
The piece we chose to feature above is the Rilke necklace, which retails for $150 to $170.
