Mail that comes in envelopes isn’t so exciting here at the Shiny offices, we’re more excited by boxes likely to contain makeup samples or preview fashions.
But when we ripped open an envelope to find a preview of Clinton Kelly’s upcoming book “Freakin’ Fabulous: How To Dress, Speak, Behave, Eat, Entertain, Decorate, and Generally Be Better Than Everyone Else” the screams were likely heard a few doors down.

So far, we’ve mostly heard Kelly offer fashion advice but this book offers that and so much more. There’s recipes, tips on etiquette and more – all written with Kelly’s witty flair. We find the preface to be one of the funniest bits.
“Every once in a while, I’ll wake up in a cold sweat because I’ve realized that a thank-you note I mailed the day before contained a dangling modifier. Or I’ll spend too much time wondering why one of my party guests didn’t finish the Manhattan I made her (Did I use too much sweet vermouth? Did she not like my choice of bourbon? Is she in AA again?).”
On how to recognize fabulous footwear:
“How does one recognize a fabulous pair of shoes? It’s difficult to explain. For me, it’s instinctual and very visceral. When I see a fabulous pair of shoes, a little shiver of happiness runs through me, kind of like that first second after you snort a crushed-up baby aspirin.”
He even offers four recipes a fabulous host or hostess should memorize: roasted chicken, Hollandaise sauce, a French omelette, and a nice vinaigrette. And his ode to gin is not to be missed.
