Marc Bouwer skips fashion week rat race, puts everyone in the 'front row'

Marc Bouwer will once again skip showing in the tents during New York fashion week in favor of an online presentation.

The designer will present his spring 2009 collection on September 8 at noon, with editors, buyers and VIP shoppers logging in to marcbouwer.com.

The online fashion show has its advantages. Amidst a busy week editors can simple sit in their offices or hotel rooms and relax for a minute while still getting work done, and clients around the world can be part of the excitement of an exclusive preview without leaving home.

In that way it's probably pretty good for business, but is it good for press? While they might like the chance to relax, editors might also me less likely to watch the show "live." A runway presentation seen in person is much more likely to inspire a writer, and they also might feel less "obligated" to cover a show they didn't attend.

It seems like the way to go if you're presenting your collection online is to invite everyone to the virtual party. Why only VIP shoppers? Why not let everyone view your collection? It would generate buzz, get your name and designs out there to more people and possibly bring in some more clients!

C'mon Marc, open up the show to everyone!
