Just one month after Peta asked Zappos to stop selling fur, the online retailer has bowed to consumer pressure and will no longer be selling items that use fur.

It looks like they must have pulled their stock of fur items immediately since a search for fur on their site turns up on faux items.

“Zappos.com joins Target, QVC, Home Shopping Network, Nike, Polo Ralph Lauren, Gap, Forever 21, Wet Seal and dozens of other companies and designers that have gone fur-free,” said Pulin Modi, the street team supervisor for peta2.

Coincidentally, Zappos will be featured on Oprah tomorrow. The show is entitled Millionaire Moguls and also features Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen.

Here’s a promo.

I’m curios why they are still selling UGG then. Anyone know? What is definition of fur? Doesn’t sheepskin have fur on it?

Well, anti-fur activists are generally kind of split on the issue of wool, which as far as I know is what is on Uggs. The wool is shorn off, kind of like a haircut, and so the animals ostensibly aren’t harmed. Of course, vegans who don’t believe in any animal products often won’t wear wool or silk from silkworms either, even though the sheep and worms aren’t killed.
