It may be just desserts for Marc Jacobs, who routinely annoys the fashion elite by making them wait obscene amounts of time for his fashion shows to start at the 69th Regiment Armory.
Now the designer’s company has paid $1 million to New York State for allegedly using a go-between to pay the former superintendent of the Armory $35,000 worth of cash and goods (hmm…the latest It bags?) in return for preferential treatment when it came to booking the venue.
“New York City is a global epicenter for fashion and cultural events and we will not allow corruption and greed to tarnish one of our most lucrative industries,” Attorney General Andrew Cuomo said in revealing the settlement. “Places like the 69th Regiment Armory are a key part of ensuring that cultural enterprises across the state continue to thrive.”
Neither Jacobs nor his company will face formal charges now that the settlement has been paid. But especially in the current economy, a fine like that is probably punishment enough.
