Much of America has pinned their hopes on Michelle Obama to be the style icon of their dreams, and the copycatting has already begun. When Obama donned a black and white floral frock from Donna Ricco on The View the dress quickly sold-out everywhere.

eBay Style Director Constance White shared with us that Obama’s dress from the View, Gap dress for the Fourth of July, purple dress from the campaign trail and yellow J.Crew cardigan all sold out on the auction site.

“No matter what she wears on Inauguration day, Michelle Obama’s singular style will make her the woman to watch for the next four years,” White said. “She is a shot in the arm for American fashion, and dare I say, the most stylish first lady in four decades.”

To hear how Obama’s style is going to go beyond the sartorial to affect the very White House itself, keep reading.

The First Lady-elect recently announced the hiring of interior designer Michael Smith to help her redo the White House’s East Wing for her family.

“Michael shares my vision for creating a family-friendly feel to our new home and incorporating some new perspectives from some of America’s greatest artists and designers,” Obama said.

As for Smith, who has decorated Cindy Crawford’s, Michelle Pfeiffer’s, Steven Spielberg’s and Rupert Murdoch’s homes, he said that “”The [Obamas'] casual style, their interest in bringing 20th century American artists to the forefront and utilizing affordable brands and products will serve as our guiding principles as we make the residence feel like their home.”
