Ostentatious jewels and status bags are on their way out, so what will this mean for the ultimate status show down – awards season?
Rachel Zoe, who will be styling best actress nominee Anne Hathaway and presenter Cameron Diaz for the Globes, doesn’t think the move away from bling and glitz will necessarily mean boring black.
“My instinct is always escapism,” she told WWD. “Red-carpet and awards shows to me are not pretentious. It’s an escape from reality….[In the] recession, everyone’s getting hit. People look to Hollywood for an escape. People need an escape, life is tough enough.”
Last night was the Critics Choice Awards, pre-runner to Sunday’s Globes and a good indication as to who’s going to get the gongs this year. We’ve joined forces with Catwalk Queen to bring you a gallery of the best (and worst) dressed celebs. Click to see Anne Hathaway, Amy Adams, Penelope Cruz and co in their red carpet finest.
We use Myspace primarily to listen to music or check out new bands, doing most of our social networking (slagging off) on Facebook (join our blog network!) and Twitter (follow us!). But we might be lured to spending more time on the ‘space with all the new fashion content they have planned.
The site will now have fun daily features like Behind the Seams, which showcases fashion industry personalities, Fresh Face Friday to introduce new design talent and (possibly our favorite) Exclusive Discount Thursday, when users will have access to discount codes for retailers like Revolve Clothing and singer 22.
Plus, the site will be collaborating with a site we love, whowhatweardaily, which definitely bodes well! Check it out this month and let us know what you think!
Deary me things don’t appear to be improving for Peter Som. He has just announced the cancellation of his New York Fashion Week show next month, following a split from Creative Design Studios, a division of Lord & Taylor LLC.
“We have realized that our strategic interests are no longer aligned and feel that this is the best direction for our company at this time,” said Elana Posner, co-owner and CEO of Peter Som Inc.
Looks like you’ll be getting an eyeful of Scarlett Johansson (on a scarlet-colored cover for Valentine’s Day no less) on the February issue of Harper’s Bazaar.
Looks like Johansson is styled in true bombshell fashion for the occasion, complete with a red sequined, backless dress. We’re sure fiance Ryan Reynolds wouldn’t complain if she pulled that out for V-Day.
On the heels of stories that Anna Wintour is preparing for retirement from Vogue (can you imagine the hooplah when that actually happens?) comes an interesting rumor about what she may fill her time with post-Vogue.
Fashion Week Daily is reporting that Anna may be in the running for an ambassadorship in the Obama administration – England or France are both likely.
FWD points out that once you’ve hosted the Met gala, a state dinner is a piece of cake.
It might not be the whole collection, but we still thought you’d be as excited as us to see this photo, which shows model Veronika Fasinova cosying up to Matthew Williamson in the first frock to emerge as part of his highly anticipated H&M collaboration, which hits stores on April 23rd.
Keep reading for another snap of the designer with H&M’s Margareta van den Bosch and what we hope is another fabulous print from the range…
Apparently we’re a bit fixated on necklaces this week, but if you can’t afford Drew Barrymore’s $270 necklace, this one from Forever 21 is equally statement-making.
This gemstone necklace from Forever 21, $7.80, dangles faceted clear and gray gemstones from a gunmetal chain and black grosgrain ribbon for a look that can go goth or glam.
Necklaces like these are one of the best ways to jazz up your LBD, especially if it has a higher neckline that makes the necklace look more like part of the dress than an accessory.
Here at ShinyStyle and across the pond at our U.K. sister site Catwalk Queen we are eagerly anticipating the award season. And last night it officially kicked off with the People’s Choice Awards at the Shrine Auditorium. Overall, The Dark Knight was the big winner of the night scooping a total of five awards. But who really gives a rats about the gongs when there is so much to gawk at on the red carpet. Stars in attendance included Carrie Underwood, Paris Hilton, Kate Hudson, and a witchy-looking Teri Hatcher. To see what we’re talking about, click on the image below to begin our celebrity fashion gallery.
P.S. Make sure to pencil in the Golden Globes next Sunday, when we’ll bring you all the latest style direct from the red carpet. Until then!
The actress was recently seen out and about wearing this statement necklace by Fiona Paxton. We love the swingy silver strands and can’t imagine what they’d do for a LBD if they look so cool with a rocker T.
The necklace is available at debut, in New York City for $270.
Before we get into details of Target’s next Go International designer collaboration with surfer chic Tracy Feith, first things first.
The retailer has released images of its Spring 09 GO International Collection (one of the GO lines with no designer attached) which will hit stores February 1.
As usual the collection is very colorful, and offers lots of separates and dresses like the Bustier Dress in watermelon at right, $44.99. Target cites rock ‘n’ roll and sporty inspirations for this collection which will sell for $16.99 to $49.99.
For more images from this collection, and details on Tracy Feith, keep reading.
ShinyStyle gave you the news of the celebs who’ll be attending Sunday’s Golden Globes ceremony, and with a red carpet line-up that includes the likes of Brad and Angelina, Drew Barrymore, Blake Lively, Penelope Cruz, Jennifer Lopez and Salma Hayek, we can expect some memorable moments. So now we can move onto important things…like predicting what they’ll wear (and more importantly, what we wish they’d wear). Click the image to start the first Golden Globes Gallery of 2009!
Er…without their mopeds? London’s spat of fashionable heists ended last April, but now Showroom Seven’s L.A. office was burglarized on New Year’s Day.
It appears theives took $300,000 worth of Erickson Beamon jewelry, Orla Kiely and Jane August handbags and Akiko Ogawa dresses but left computer equipment and a plasma screen TV untouched, suggesting quite the fashionable criminals indeed.
The fashion showroom was entered through a mezzanine-level window after climbing a heating duct. We would do a lot for a great handbag, but that seems like quite the obstacle course.
While many designers are scaling back their fashion week presentations, Oscar de la Renta will be showing twice this season.
“[2008] has a been good year for me,” the designer told The Daily last month. “While some businesses faced tough times, I actually added 15 employees to my company. Sales-wise, the last three months have been solid for us.”
Like Calvin Klein, de la Renta will put on one fashion show for the press, the other for retailers. The shows are slated for 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. on Wednesday February 18.
