
Alice Temperley is back in the Big Apple after a stint in her home city of London last season. This time, the British designer followed the lead of many, and opted against a runway show in favour of a presentation instead. The two-day event in Soho, which also consisted of a multimedia installation, helped to unveil her Japanese-inspired collection .

With distinct flavours of the Orient on show, Temperley London’s fall ’09 offering was a splendid blend of rich colours, origami folds and kimono styles. Lots of layering and bejeweled necklines kept things interesting, as did the flashes of animal-print in hats and belts.

Military influences in tailored jackets and details in gold cord helped to take things in a new direction for the designer. Who said that things needed to be reigned in due to the recession?
