Taylor Momsen’s doing it deliberately, isn’t she? The pint-sized Gossip Girl actress is still only 15 but has access to some of the most gorgeous gowns on the planet. She must know how lucky she is, but every time she wears one to an event, she looks like she’d rather be anywhere else.
Little Jenny Humphrey, if you’d rather be at home listening to loud music and writing in your diary, we’ll happily take your place at the Amfar Gala. If you’d rather stay, how about a smile? And a little less make-up?! You’re gorgeous without the warpaint!
We’re off to Bluefly’s preview screening of Confessions of a Shopaholic, and we can’t wait to show you some pics from the event and share our thoughts on the fashionable film.
Until then, check out some of our coverage leading up to the movie’s release tomorrow, and click above to enter Bluefly’s contest for a $5,000 shopping spree.
Drop-crotch shorts. Does anything about the name make them sound like they’d be at all appealing? Not really, but they keep coming around, and from the likes of fashionable designers like Chloe, at left.
So is there something I’m missing? Are drop-crotch shorts on your summer 09 must-have list? Tell us what you think below.
Built by Wendy’s Spring 09 lookbook won’t hit their site until Monday, but we’ve got a little preview for you. Sweet details are in good supply with ruffles and crochet-knit neutrals, but we’re hoping for more pops of color like the coral dress after the jump.
I’ll admit I have not in general been a Jessica Alba fan, either in film or fashion. But she’s starting to bring me around. Especially in this blue dress for the premiere the documentary hubby Cash Warren produced, “Crips and Bloods: Made in America,” in West Hollywood.
This is a fantastic example of covered-up fashion and how starlets can stay stylish without looking slutty. Bare legs and a more dynamic shoe might have improved the outfit, but she’s certainly the picture of the supportive wife.
Those Gossip Girl kids definitely gets around, don’t they? It seems like not a glossy goes to print without some mention of the cast of fashion’s favorite show.
In the March edition of Harper’s Bazaar (yep, them again), Ed Westwick gets seduced by supermodel / photographer / all-round fashionista Helena Christensen in a shoot by snapper Terry Richardson.
The shoot features the couple looking very lustful in clothes by the likes of Max Mara, Oscar de la Renta, Dolce & Gabbana and Burberry. Keep reading for more pics…
The Stephen Sprouse Collection from Louis Vuitton is finally available online, so I perused the small collection for our designer pick of the week. I picked this floral pochette not just because it’s one of the more affordable options at $500, but because I think that Sprouse’s floral *graffiti* design works best on this petite fellow. It’s a great way to own a piece of this limited-edition collection.
Here it is folks! The much-anticipated March ’09 Vogue cover starring Michelle Obama. It seems it was accidentally posted on WSJ’s fashion blog ahead of its launch tomorrow, and quickly picked up by Jezebel for our viewing pleasure (thanks peeps!). Photographed by Annie Leibovitz, there has been plenty of chatter already on forums about the portrait and of course the choice of outfit – a sleeveless fuchsia dress by Jason Wu.
Who better to launch a sporting collection than Maria Sharapova? I’m sure that’s what Cole Haan figured when they cast her as the star of their spring 2009 campaign.
The ads were shot in Malibu by Martyn Thompson, and extends the relationship between Cole Haan and Nike, the maker of their comfort shoe technology.
“The campaign marks the first time Cole Haan has collaborated with a Nike athlete to serve as the face of a new collection,” notes Cole Haan Chief Marketing Officer Michael Capiraso. “We are able to leverage her interest in fashion and sport, while connecting with our consumer in a new and unique way.”
For a pic of a Cole Haan/Nike sport shoe from the collection, keep reading.
OMG, Serena throws the best parties! Looks like Chanel Iman is confirmed for that episode of Gossip Girl, the one with former Moldy Peaches singer Adam Green, The Misshapes and Patrick McMullen.
This continues Gossip Girl’s streak of starring *celebrities* of the fashion world who no one else has heard of let alone will recognize. But I guess it will help Leigh Lezark improve her brand awareness.
If you’re a T-shirt kinda gal, no doubt you’ve already heard of Threadless Tees. Sure, we love their silly slogans, but plenty of brands do those. We’re more into their cute, kitchy designs like the Capistrano Spring Break, left, $15, and the “Infamous Mishaps Through History,” right, now on sale for $9. (You really need to enlarge the graphic to fully appreciate that one.)

While we were watching the Grammy’s last night, the U.K. was celebrating their own night of stars with the British Academy Film Awards. Some Americans were over there, too, like Marisa Tomei and Sharon Stone, represented in the gallery below.
With Converse sneakers being even more ubiquitous in music than in the general population, it fits that Sarah Ruba from New Look stars in the latest “Get Chucked” campaign from Converse by John Varvatos.
The ads were shot by Kieron O’Connor and have a rock and roll vibe about them, perfect for pawning the shoes.
“This campaign is about characters and their personalities,” Varvatos told Fashion Week Daily. “Converse has always been about expressing yourself, and we have fully embraced that ideal here. Our latest ‘Get Chucked’ series goes to the heart of both brands. We’re inspired by art, music and collaboration, and this campaign directly reflects the idealism of the ‘downtown’ loft mood, be it Manhattan, London or Tokyo.”
If, like many, you covet almost anything Agyness Deyn wears, you’ll love catching this glimpse of the model from British Vogue. We’ve got the deets on her fabulous footwear.
With the likes of Kate Beckinsale, Miley Cyrus, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson out in their best dresses last night, it’s surprising that a virtual fashion unknown has made the headlines this morning. The name on everyone’s lips is that of Lebanese designer Basil Soda, who stepped in at the last minute to dress Katy Perry when her alternative (custom-made) dress failed to live up to expectations. If the only star in one of his gowns last night was Paula Abdul, we probably wouldn’t have gushed so much, but with Perry’s pastel pink dress making all the best-dressed lists, this is one designer we’re very excited about!
