Anne Hathaway has “no plans” to star in Marc Jacobs campaign

By kelly on April 8th, 2009

Catwalk Queen‘s Kimberley Foster writes…

Boo! Don’t you hate it when great rumours turn out to be false?

A publicist for Marc Jacobs has been quick to dispel whispers that Anne Hathaway could be the next face of the label. The Mail on Sunday reported that the actress was looking to change her image with the help of her designer pal, but alas it seems it was all just a porkie pie.

“I’m afraid that is not true. Marc and Annie are good friends, but there are no plans of her appearing in our ads,” the rep confirmed to People.

So that just leaves the question – who will be replacing Victoria Beckham on the next MJ campaign?

Star Style: Sienna Miller is lady in red at New York premiere of ‘The Mysteries of Pittsburgh’

By kelly on April 8th, 2009

sienna_miller_mysteries_premiere.jpg

Following on from her (we think) successful turn in Jonathan Saunders at the ShoWest Awards Gala last week, Sienna Miller keeps it simple – but striking – in a red shift dress, black tights and peep-toe heels at the premiere of her new film The Mysteries of Pittsburgh in New York City. Loving the colour, the nipped-in waist and the braided ‘do (will be trying that one out later…), but perhaps not so keen on the tights and peep-toe look. What do you think?

When Michelle Obama met Carla Bruni-Sarkozy…

By kelly on April 7th, 2009

obama_brunisarkozy_france.jpg

What do the two most fashion-forward First Ladies wear when they meet up? That was the question everyone was wondering last week and on Friday we got our answer. US First Lady Michelle Obama wore a black and burgundy floral coat, which she later removed to reveal a reverse print dress – both by Thakoon. Her French counterpart Carla Bruni-Sarkozy wore a gray suede Dior coat and a matching shift dress, with her trademark Dior flats. Who do you think won the First Lady fashion face-off?

Flight of the Conchords warn us ‘Fashion is Danger’

By kelly on April 7th, 2009

New Zealand’s formerly fourth most popular guitar-based digi-bongo accapella-rap-funk-comedy folk duo (that’d be Flight of the Conchords in case you didn’t know), have been back on US tellies for a while now – what do you mean, you haven’t been watching!? If you actually haven’t, you’ve missed a doozy just recently when the boys started banging on about fashion, and more specifically, its ‘dangers’.

What we love (aside from the obvious incredible 80s fashion) is the tribute to Visage’s Fade to Grey vid, complete with paparazzi trying to capture Bret and Jermaine while their manager, Murray, tries to block the flashes. The poses are what really had us though! Now that is fashion. Watch and see for yourself…

Psst… Is Anne Hathaway to become the next face of Marc Jacobs?

By kelly on April 7th, 2009

Has Marc Jacobs found his next muse?

The latest whispers are that Anne Hathaway will replace Victoria Beckham as the face of Marc Jacobs.

“Marc and Anne have forged a fast but very intense friendship and they’re going to start doing public appearances together soon,” a friend of the actress has revealed. “Anne hasn’t signed up to do any advertising yet but, by dressing her, Marc can infuse his line with a fresh but famous face and Anne can revamp her image. If it works well, Anne would be happy to model for some of Marc’s campaigns.”

In addition to a possible lucrative deal with the label, the 26-year-old has also recently agreed to play Judy Garland in a new movie. 2009 looks set to be a bumper year for Anne.

Gallery: Topshop New York flagship store opening celebratory dinner and launch party

By kelly on April 3rd, 2009

So much partying going on, but with the opening of Topshop finally taking place in the US, can you really blame anyone for trying to drag celebrations out as long as they can?

Prior to Kate Moss and Sir Philip Green officially opening the store on Broadway and Broome yesterday, there was a celebratory dinner held on Wednesday night which was attended by some uber glamorous folk: designers Marc Jacobs and Jason Wu, models Lily Donaldson and Daria Werbowy, Anna Wintour with her daughter Bee Schaffer, Julia Restoin-Roitfeld – offspring of Paris Vogue ed Carine Roitfeld – and singers Jennifer Hudson and um, James Blunt (?!!). A bit of extra glamor – like they needed anymore – was brought by the attendance of A-list couple Jennifer Lopez and hubby Marc Anthony. The couple returned to get their party on at the launch last night, along with Emma Roberts, Lydia Hearst and MC Spank Rock.

Bruno the fashionista – movie trailer is finally here!

By kelly on April 3rd, 2009

We’ve seen him gatecrash Milan Fashion Week and do bizarre things in the second row at Stella McCartney‘s Paris show, but until now, we haven’t been sure how this footage was going to come together to create something which could rival Borat in the funny stakes.

By the looks of this trailer, Bruno – the camp journalist from Austria, otherwise known as comedian Sacha Baron Cohen – is going to more than rival it, as he takes on the fashion world, creates carnage backstage at shows and adopts an African baby Madonna-style. Be warned, this isn’t for the faint of heart and an age restriction does apply if you want to watch it.

What Kate wore: Check out Ms Moss at the New York Topshop opening

By kelly on April 2nd, 2009

topshop_opening_kate_moss.jpg

Topshop’s New York flagship has officially opened – hurrah! – and who else would Topshop boss Sir Philip Green call upon to help dredge up even *more* excitement, than the one and only Kate Moss. La Moss made her grand entrance only two hours ago, wearing an emerald green floor-length Grecian dress from the new collection, which she covered up with a leather biker jacket from her previous A/W Topshop collection.

Check out a video of Kate Moss talking up the new store, after the jump…

Kate Moss lands in New York, makes a beeline for Topshop

By kelly on April 2nd, 2009

katemoss_newyork_topshop_floraldress.jpgKate Moss landed in New York yesterday ahead of today’s official Topshop USA opening.

The supermodel showed off one of her new spring ’09 designs for the retailer, a full-skirted floral dress which will retail for £60, worn under a cropped black jacket. She matched her outfit with a pair of black tights, heels and a fringed bag designed by Genevieve Jones.

As for the store opening today, which is taking place as we type, according to Twitter updates from Fashionista, Nylon and The Cut (who are diligently queuing up outside, go girls!), Kate is wearing a long lime green chiffon jersey dress and a biker jacket from her collection. Hope those who are bravely queuing are ready to fight it out London-style once safely inside…

Michelle Obama-watch: Visiting the Queen in Isabel Toledo

By Kimberley Foster on April 2nd, 2009

From Catwalk Queen

Obama-watch continues with a special meeting with the Queen. Michelle Obama’s fashion tour of the British capital culminated with a royal visit to Buckingham Palace. To mark the occasion, the First Lady chose a black and white dress, with tulle underlay, by Isabel Toledo, black cardigan and pearls. Walking into the Palace, she chose a black A-line dress coat designed by Jason Wu, but decided against wearing a hat. Earlier in the day, she stopped by 10 Downing Street to visit Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife, Sarah, in a J.Crew ensemble.

Michelle Obama-watch: Arriving at 10 Downing Street

By kelly on April 1st, 2009

michelle_obama_downingst.jpg

Creating a worldwide fashion frenzy since she stepped onto Air Force One yesterday afternoon, First Lady Michelle Obama has admiring fashionistas still in a tizz on Day One of her first official visit to Europe, as she and her Presidential hubby Barack rocked up earlier today to knock on the door of 10 Downing Street.

While she favoured up-and-coming US designers Thakoon and Jason Wu for her departure and arrival outfits, she donned high street favourite J.Crew for her meeting with UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and his wife, Sarah.

The embellished ivory cardigan and textured mint green skirt was finished off with a double strand of pearls and was perfect for the sunny, spring weather in London this morning. It has to be said too, it was a particularly good choice given the protest situation in London today – anything too flashy could have come off as highly inappropriate. Make sure you keep checking back as we dig up pictures of Michelle’s meeting-the-Queen outfit!

DIY project for the weekend: Studded pocket jeans

By kelly on April 1st, 2009

studded_pocket_jeans_diy.jpg

I wrote about these amaaaaazing jeans on Catwalk Queen after spying them on the Jak & Jil blog. As I mentioned over there, they had me crossing out all my To-Do diary entries for this weekend and instead slapping in one big new one: DIY. (Sorry friends-who-I-am-cancelling-on – we’ll have to catch up another time!)

This should be a fairly easy one if you’ve got the gear already… Simply rip up a pair of your old jeans (whether you want to bleach them out first, is your prerogative) or find a pair you like (the ones pictured above are $90 from Topshop) and then get busy with your stud gun. You can find said stud gun and studs at your local craft store or haberdashery (you may wish to go with gold rather than silver, spray paint them black or pick a smaller size than the ones pictured) or, of course, perusing eBay for some good crafty deals is usually the best option. Let us know how it goes!

michelleobama_thakoon_jasonwu_londonarrival.jpg

Catwalk Queen‘s Kimberley Foster writes…

Michelle Obama made a fashionable entrance as she landed in London last night, proving that the First Lady definitely travels in style. Marking her first official European trip, Mrs O boarded Air Force One in an ivory tweed custom-made Thakoon coat with grosgrain piping and a pair of Jimmy Choo ‘Jade’ heels (£310). Several hours later she had changed into a whole new outfit.

To find out what else she wore, read on…
