Max C launches a range of bags to fit in with this season’s trends

By Andrea Petrou on September 16th, 2009

Max c.jpgOn Monday we bought you shoes with studs to give you the rock and roll look of the coming season.

But we all know shoes without accessories don’t really do much, especially if it’s without a bag. Thankfully we have found a range of these that will match the shoes and this season’s style perfectly.

The new collection from Max C includes a range of different handbags in different colour leathers and styles including retro. There is also trend fringing, studs, pleats and chain straps.

But we think this bag (pictured) would work brilliantly for a rock and roll studded look.

Get the look: Dannii’s watch

By Andrea Petrou on September 16th, 2009

Dannii watch.JPGWe’ve written a lot about Cheryl Cole in the past few weeks here at ShinyStyle and it’s sometimes easy to forget about her equally as gorgeous X-Factor colleague Dannii.

Never one to fade from the spotlight, the Aussie pop princess has upped the anti with a sleek new look that has won her the X-Factor.

Accessories have played a major part in her glam transformation and now you get a similar look (well to her watch anyway,) with this piece by Storm Watches.

The Nemoni watch costs £119.99 meaning you also won’t need a superstar’s salary to stand out from the crowd.

New York Fashion Week - Runway

Lacoste catwalk at New York fashion week

By Andrea Petrou on September 16th, 2009

With London Fashion Week just around the corner, the excitement is building up to see what designers are planning out for us to wear next season.

If you’re a keen fashionista then you’ll already know New York fashion Week has been going for a few weeks now, and although we couldn’t be there to give you the latest news and reviews we have had a scout around to see what other people have to say.

We love this video, which shows Lacoste’s new season looks. As you will see, the brand known for being sporty and preppy has stuck closely with this style this season and we’re sure you’ll agree, they’ve done it well.

We love the white, netball skirt, which can be teamed up with a pair of plimsolls for the ultimate back to school sports look.

UK Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman speaks to The Telegraph about size zero models

By Andrea Petrou on September 14th, 2009

zeromodel.jpgEach year London Fashion Week brings with it a flurry of excitement, new trends and regrettably the size zero debate as waif like models strut down the catwalk, looking as though they are need of a good few sandwiches.

Of course, this isn’t a new topic and we only spoke about this a few weeks ago, blaming both magazines and fashion designers alike for the dangerous trend.

However, I’ve just had the pleasure of reading an interview The Telegraph did with UK Vogue Editor Alexandra Shulman, which has changed my perceptions of the magazine industry.

Known for her fierce disagreement of size zero models (although you may not realise this flicking through the pages of Vogue) she has in the past written letters to fashion designers. In a letter wriiten in June, she accused them of supplying magazines with such “minuscule” garments for their photoshoots that they were forced to use models with “jutting bones and no breasts or hips” to fit the clothes.

Although this isn’t news, her interview with the Telegraph showed me how strongly she felt about this topic.

Speaking about her thoughts on size zero models she told the paper: “A couple of people have said yes you’re right, we’re going to do something about it, but I wouldn’t say, in the main, that’s been the response.

“Most people have thought about it and on the whole don’t feel that the sample sizes they produce are too small – they feel that they are reasonable for the job they are meant to do.”

However, she added that she did not think designers would be sending Vogue larger sample sizes for photoshoots for next season’s collections.

It does make me wonder that if a magazine as big and as influential as Vogue can’t change designer’s perceptions, what chance is there that we, the public can.

Lindasy Lohan becomes artistic director at Emanuel Ungaro

By Andrea Petrou on September 11th, 2009

Linds Lohan.jpg
I must admit, I’m quite envious of some film starlets. Not only are they gorgeous and have a talent for acting, many are going on to design their own fashion ranges or collaborate with other designers.

The latest actress to receive some of my envy is the lovely Lindsay Lohan. It seems like this starlet got the fashion bug after appearing in Ugly Betty and has just been named as artistic director at Emanuel Ungaro.

Her new position follows the departure of former designer Esteban Cortazar and she’ll be working with unknown designer Estrella Archs.

Now I like Lindsay’s style but we’ll have to wait to see if her talents really do stretch as far as fashion design as her collection will debut on the 4th October during Paris Fashion Week.

Gallery: Back to the 80s. Fashion you can wear at work or at play

By Andrea Petrou on September 11th, 2009

Yesterday I reminisced about the good old 80s and how I missed out on all the fashions first time around. And it’s not just me that’s fallen for this year’s 80s styling.

Gwen Stefani has also become a victim, presenting a LAMB collection that included off-the-shoulder “Flashdance” tops and acid-wash jeans.

However, although she can get away with dressing as funky as she likes, we’re not sure your boss would be pleased to see you turn up to work like this.

We have a look at some wearable 80s fashions that will keep you going throughout the winter during work and play.

Full Circle launches 80s fashion range

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2009

80 TOP full circle.JPGWhat were you doing in the 80s? I was just a tot then, but I remember my mother wearing her 80s shoulder pad clothes and wishing that I was old enough to be able to get into some of them.

I think the fashion gods must have heard my silent prayers because this year the 80s look is back with a vengeance, with many catwalk shows displaying the fashions I wished I could wear when I was a child.

And Full Circle is just one of them.

Its range of tops and dresses come in different colours including red, black and blue. Match them up with a pair of washed out jeans and heels for an authentic 80s night out.

We’ll be bringing you more 80s fashion in our gallery tomorrow.

Get the look: Freida Pinto’s make-up at the GQ Men of the Year Awards

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2009

Freida.JPGFreida Pinto has been a key person to watch ever since she exploded onto our screens in Slumdog Millionaire and her fashion style always amazes me.

I’ve seen numerous photos of her looking every inch the starlet in high street store clothes and I think she sets a great example.

And it seems we can also now get her look makeup wise too. At the GQ Men of the Year Awards this week Freida used Cosmetics La Carte.

Her makeup artist, artist Joe Hopker, said: “This time I wanted to create a sultry glittery effect, so I used the lively Starshine in ‘Storm’ (£15) on the eyes. I also used the Cheek Tint in Coral (£22), which creates a beautiful, fresh, apricot glow to the cheeks.”

As Freida has quite dry skin, Joe used the Hydra Mist (£20) fine spray body moisturizer on Freida’s arms and legs to create a sexy sheen.

I can’t wait to try out some of these products, maybe if I’m lucky they may even help me bag a millionaire.

Get the look: Marc Jacobs boots

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2009

marcjacobs fur bootsDespite what anyone else says, I love my Uggs. They keep me warm, they’re comfortable and I’d defend them to the end.

Well, that’s until I spotted these mid-calf, tie-detail fur boots all over the Marc Jacobs Catwalk for Autumn/Winter2009 (well fashion’s fickle isn’t it).

Now I can’t tell you how much these cost yet, but I imagine it would take a good many months of saving to get a pair of these beautiful boots, so I had a scout around and spotted this similar pair from Spanish brand, ART Footwear.

I think they’d look amazing with baggy jeans or tracksuit bottoms (did I say that out loud) tucked in. However those with more sophisticated taste can also wear with baggy tailored trousers for the ultimatelook in utility Chic. They cost a very reasonable £140.

Get the look: Rihanna’s watch

By Andrea Petrou on September 9th, 2009

Rihanna watch.JPGRihanna’s been a style icon of mine for a long time. She’s sometimes cool, sometimes sexy and sometimes quirky.

So I was pleased to see that at times, I too can copy her look. Well her jewellery anyway.

We spotted a picture of her wearing this gorgeous black watch, which is bold enough to be noticed, but doesn’t ruin the rest of her look.

Now I couldn’t find (or afford) the exact same one, but this watch by Christopher Ward comes in as a similar second.

The simple black and subtle style means it can be dressed up, like Rihanna’s or worn every day.

Sex and The City starlet Kirstin Davis has her fashion collection cancelled

By Andrea Petrou on September 9th, 2009

Kirstin.jpgIt’s not been a good month for my favourite Sex and the City star Kristin Davis.

Although she is currently filming the second SATC film, the fashionista was supposed to show her official spring line of the Kristin Davis Collection on September 13.

However, according to fashion blog, The Cut, the actress canceled her New York show late last week. A representative for Kristin, who plays Charlotte in SATC, said this was due to a mutual decision she made with Belk department stores to discontinue her line.

The actress created the line of accessories, and shoes specifically with Belk in 2008, and it was the only store that stocked her range. Unfortunately the Autumn 2009 collection will be the last available in stores. ”

However, it’s not all grim news. Kirstin has said she may continue her line and approach other stores. Fingers crossed some of those will be in the UK.

Review : Scholl Party Feet Snowflake Limited Edition

By Andrea Petrou on September 9th, 2009

Scholl Party Feet Snowflake Invisible Gel Cushion.JPGNow I’m not a girl that can wear heels, in fact many of my beautiful boots and sandals have lain discarded in my wardrobe for a number of years and been slowly replaced by flats, flip flops and trainers.

Even going out means an extra pair of flats to change into after a couple of hours. So when Scholl sent me it’s new Party Feet snowflake limited edition range, which are placed in the front of your shoe to prevent that horrible pain you get when wearing heels, I was understandably unconvinced.

Yes they looked nice and sparkly but do they really do the job? I took them on a night out with my heels to find out.

Putting them into my shoes was a bit tricky. They were extremely sticky and stuck to every part of the inside of my shoe and when I had finally got past that hurdle the next problem arose.
Because they sit in the front of your shoe, they make the gap between your feet smaller, meaning the shoes can feel a little tight. I was ready to pack my trusty flip flops but I soldiered on.

For research purposes (of course) I decided to go to a bar, where seating is a luxury, meaning I would be have to stand all night. An hour into the eve and I felt the familiar twinge of pain, that only standing with heels on would give.

However, I was surprised after that I didn’t feel a thing, especially during the 10 minute walk home, which normally would have crippled me had I not had the Party feet on.

The real test came the next day however. I don’t know about you but when I wear heels the night before, I always get pains in my calves, however, it seems the Party Feet did actually work, because there was none of that the morning after.

The only thing I would say is that the tops of my feet were a little bit sore from where they had been pushing on the tops of my shoes.

Party Feet have made me think again about wearing heels, and I’m pleased to say they actually did work and because they can be used again and again I think I’ve found my sole mate for life.
