Jimmy Choo launches Project PEP capsule collection for charity at Selfridges

By Andrea Petrou on October 22nd, 2009

Jimmy Choo PEP.jpgGet your hands on some Jimmy Choo accessories without feeling guilty about spending.

The shoe designer has teamed up with the Elton John AIDS Foundation to create the ‘PEP-up Shop’ featuring a host of limited edition Jimmy Choo products, made especially for the project.

The event, which takes place at Selfridges from Friday 30 October, will only last for 72 hours (yes we’ll be queuing from dawn too), and will include exclusive products such as a cuff, ID-tag and a mobile strap.

And, as we told you before, you won’t need to feel guilty about spending as Jimmy Choo will donate 25% of the sales of the Project PEP capsule collection directly to the Simelela centre. This will give victims access to vital life saving treatments that have to be administered within the first 72 hours of exposure to HIV. We see it as giving our annual charity donation early.

And it doesn’t end there. The designer has also created website and is asking everyone to upload photos of themselves wearing their Choo’s, as part of a campaign entitled ‘You, Your Shoes and 72.’

Images will be showcased at the global launch of Project PEP at Selfridges and 100 of the best pictures will win products from the Jimmy Choo capsule collection.

Visit JimmyChoo72.com for more information.

By Andrea Petrou on October 20th, 2009

Hot off the eco press is Fashion-conscience, which has a range of clothes and accessories from a range of different eco companies. This includes Enamore Lingerie, which is made from bamboo jersey with silk detailing and is 100% organic.

Uncommonly Beautiful Recycled Jewellery, which uses waste materials such as scrap leather, clock parts and suitcases and transforms them into imaginative, beautiful and wearable jewellery. Each individual piece is handmade and completely unique. Earrings, bracelets and necklaces from £15.

Amongst the many other’s the website also stocks Tamasyn Gambell’s recycled paperback notebooks and Use UK’s Bow bags, which are made from rescued leather from the furniture industry and have cute polka-dot lining.

Accessories Online adds Lulu Guinness to its range

By Andrea Petrou on October 20th, 2009

lulu lips.jpgLulu Guinness accessories may not be cheap, but it’s one of those brands that we want to get our hands on as much as possible.

Accessories Online obviously feels the same way as us, as it’s launching a range of the designer’s statement pieces in November and giving us enough time to persuade and heavily hint to our loved ones.

The eclectic lips range includes a selection of statement bracelets, necklaces, rings and earrings in a range of bright and cheeky colours with a sprinkling of magical gems. We love this diamante lips ring, which will make a statement wherever you are.

Gallery: Top 5 Worst Work Uniforms

By Andrea Petrou on October 19th, 2009

Everyone has a horror story to tell about a work uniform, me included. While deciding what I wanted to do with my life I took a job at travel agent Going Places. And seven years ago, the uniforms were still stuck firmly in 90′s style.

Think school uniform pleated blue skirt, with a multi coloured puke patterned blouse and dreadful court shoes. I felt like an unlucky, ground bound air hostess.

And the comments that I got at the bus stop clung as much as the cheap viscose this hideous uniform was made of.

Then there was my time at a well known Italian high street store. After the hideousness of the Going Places I didn’t think it could get worse, after all we got discounts on all the clothes that we had to wear for work. Girl’s dream right?

Well not if the only sizes you could buy were a 6 and 8. The store only employed girls of this size but god help you if you had been on a holiday and put on a few pounds.

Needless to say I only stayed a few weeks.

And it seems we aren’t alone with this. Online clothing supplier, Clothes2Order, has launched a national search for the UK’s worst work uniform. The company is inviting businesses from across the country to submit photos of staff in their uniforms for the chance to win a complete uniform makeover.

We’ve also had a scout around to find the uniforms that really are a sight for sore eyes.

Whitney Houston suffers wardrobe malfunction while performing on the X-Factor

By Andrea Petrou on October 19th, 2009

whitney.jpgEveryone is talking about the X-Factor and we don’t blame them.

Not only is there some fabulous contestants this year (we love Stacey), but the show has come back bigger and better with stars such as Robbie Williams, Cheryl Cole and Whitney Houston taking to the stage to perform.

We think Cheryl did amazingly well, but we really felt for Whitney, who had a small wardrobe malfunction while making her UK come back yesterday.

The 46 year old who has battled a drug addiction, stepped out to mark her first appearance on UK TV in twelve years, in a gorgeous silver floor length gown.

However it seems that this frock suffered what we like to call style stage fright, with the straps at the back snapping open.

We think we noticed before Whitney did, but the starlet didn’t panic, continuing to sing like a true pro. She even joked with X Factor host Dermot O’Leary, saying ‘ I sang myself out my clothes.’

However, we imagine someone behind the scenes didn’t get off so lightly, Houston’s stylist, we have a problem.

The starlet is working with shoe and bag company Dune, which is supporting the Teenager Cancer Trust.

She has launched this gorgeous necklace, which consists of a long chain and oversized jewelled flower, and all profits from the sales go to the charity, which aims to provide support for young people with cancer.

However, you’ll have to hurry as this £45 limited edition necklace won’t hang around for long.

Write a review about spas and gyms for Wahanda and help charity

By Andrea Petrou on October 16th, 2009

spa.jpgIf you fancy yourself as a bit of a budding writer, then log onto Wahanda now.

The site, which lists a range of information on spas, gyms and beauty therapists, is asking people to tell others about their experiences of spas.

However, unlike other companies, the site is also doing its bit for charity. It’s teamed up with Charity:Water, which helps provide clean and safe drinking water to deprived communities around the world.

For every review you write of spas, salons, gyms and everywhere else, Wahanda will give £1 to help fund a Charity:Water project.

All you need to do is register for a free Wahanda account, find any spas, salons, or gyms you’ve visited, and write a review.

By Andrea Petrou on October 16th, 2009

Barbie.jpg
New Look is taking us right back to our childhood this month.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of our favourite childhood toy, the high street store has launched a range of Barbie merchandise, which includes make up, nightwear, underwear (yes really) and a cute kitsch watch.

And those who preferred the male doll to this pretty princess will also be pleased to know there’s a range of Ken merchandise to get dolled up in too. We love this 80s style Ken T-shirt (below), which comes in at a very reasonable £12.

Organic and ethical fashion store Kuyichi launches autumn 09 collection.

By Andrea Petrou on October 16th, 2009

Kuyuchi.JPGOrganic and ethical fashion store Kuyichi, has launched its autumn 09 collection.

The collection will use organic cotton, as well as new sustainable materials including bamboo, recycled polyester and vegetable tanned leather and consists of a huge range of clothes.

We love this puffa jacket, which has been made from 50% recycled PET (recycled plastic bottles) and 50% recycled polyester, meaning we can look and feel good at the same time.

There’s also a range of checked shirts, super tight denim leggings and jumper dresses.

We’ve been having a scout around the company’s website and we have to say we’re impressed with what we saw. We especially love the Track & Trace service that tells you the story behind your Kuyichi garment through the code of the hangtag.

You can see where the raw materials grow, where they are turned into fabrics and how they are transformed into Kuyichi garments. You can also see where you’re item was made and meet the people who produced it.

Tesco finally makes clothing available online

By Andrea Petrou on October 15th, 2009

Tesco.jpgWe’re not going to rabbit on about how much we love online shopping because if you’re a regular reader you’ll know how passionate we are about it.

However, what we will be talking about, at least until the weekend, is the fantastic news that Tesco has added fashion to its huge online range.

From today we can pick up the supermarket’s well known clothing brands such as the gorgeous Florence and Fred and Liquorish, while filling up our kitchen cupboards.

We love this gorgeous satin skirt with a flattering side pleat and for £40 it’s a definite must have for your winter wardrobe.

Just make sure you don’t mistakenly pack these clothes away with your fridge stuff. They may look good enough to eat, but we think they’d look much better on.

By Andrea Petrou on October 15th, 2009

Gap Close.jpgGirls that like Gap’s style will be pleased to hear that the high street store is launching its first ever UK perfume next Monday.

Close, has reportedly been inspired by the classic Gap wardrobe, meaning we can expect a crisp, fresh scent, and has been created by Gap creative director Patrick Robinson.

Patrick said: “My team is constantly reworking our formula to keep Gap cool and relevant. That’s the most important thing to me.

“Being sexy is part of that lifestyle, and that was the first criteria for this fragrance. It had to be sexy, sensual and beautiful.”

We like to see Gap has also kept its prices low with this scent. Prices start at £5.

Megan Fox transforms into the new face for Armani underwear

By Andrea Petrou on October 14th, 2009

Megan Fox.jpgIt’s good news for gorgeous actress Megan Fox.

The starlet is transforming into a model and has been signed up by Armani as the new face of his underwear range.

Megan will replace Victoria Beckham and join footballer Christiano Ronaldo in the 2010 underwear campaign.

She’s also reportedly fronting an Armani Jeans campaign, which will be shot by photographers Mert and Marcus, in L.A this week.

We suspect our other halves will be more than happy to pick us up the latest glossy magazines next year if they think they’ll get a glimpse of these ads.
