You may be wondering why we've featured a fashionable umbrella gallery. We know what you're thinking; an umbrella is a an umbrella right? It doesn't matter what colour it is as long as it does the job. Well that's where you're wrong.
Many years ago, having an umbrella that matched your outfit, or had some fashionable connotations was just as important as having the right bag or shoes for an outfit.
Although this trend has simmered out over the years (unless you live in Japan, which has carried this trend on) many of us still find it important to do this.
We give you a few tips to ensure your umbrella makes as much as a statement as the rest of your outfit.
Brolly Belle tip one: Avoid black.
Like with many accessories, its easy to stick to black, after all it's a timeless colour, which goes with almost everything.
However black is a safe choice for brollys. Walk down the street on a rainy day and you'll be blinded with the number of these umbrella's. Instead go for a block colour such as silver or be daring with hot pink, which fits in nicely with this seasons 80s look.
If we still haven't convinced you and you want to stick to this trusty colour then make a opt for black with a pattern, at least then you'll be spotted under the black cloud.
Brolly Belle tip two: Coordinate
If your wearing a black, grey or navy suit your umbrella doesn't have to be as plain. Pick out the colour of your shirt, scarf or even your hat and match your umbrella to this instead.
Brolly Belle tip three: Be brolly bold
Many of us have brightly coloured patterned macs or winter coats. Therfore get brolly bright and match stripes, polka dots and rainbow colours. It doesn't matter if they don't completely match at least you'll have a theme going on.
Match the patterns in your raincoat to the patterns in your umbrella. If you are wearing polka dots, opt for a polka-dot umbrella. Even if the colors don't quite match, the patterns will communicate the theme nicely.
Brolly Belle tip four: Love your handles
Consider matching the handles of your umbrella to your bag or shoes. Many brollys now come with leather or wood handles or if you want to be completely wacky try this Vision Star brolly from Umbrella Heaven. We love the stars and glitter in water, which really give a snow theme effect.
