Take part in our one minute silence for Alexander McQueen who’s funeral is being held today.

By Andrea Petrou on February 25th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Alex.jpg

Although a few weeks have passed we’re still very much saddened by Alexander McQueen’s death, and we know we’re not alone, with a huge majority of the fashion world still in mourning.

According to WWD, the funeral service for the designer will be taking place today. However it’s “for family only”.

And although a spokesperson said a memorial service for friends and fans will take place later this year, no details have been confirmed.

“We are focusing right now on the Paris show, which takes place on March 9th,” she said.

Until then, we want to make a small tribute to the great designer here at ShinyStyle, so we ask all our readers to join us in a minutes silence at 3pm today.

And of course, our thoughts will be with Mr McQueen’s family.

Cystal Renn is flying the flag for plus sized women and models everywhere.

She appeared in last month’s V magazine’s plus sized edition and earlier this week donned a bodycon dress for Mark Fast’s LFW catwalk show. And she’s still going.

The successful plus sized model, who admitted she used to suffer with anorexia due to the pressure of trying to make it as a “normal” sized model, has once again made her way to the front cover of V’s next issue hitting the shelves next month.

Posing in an Agent Provocateur bra and Dolce & Gabbana knickers, she’s the epitome of real beauty in our eyes.

Return of the mac: The best macs for spring 2010

By Andrea Petrou on February 25th, 2010

Spring is only a month away and SS2010 trends have already been hitting highstreet and online shelves with a vengence.

There’s a few essentials you’ll be needing this season to update your wardrobe, but one must have is a mac.

The mac is perfect for those inbetween Winter-Summer days, where rain will be at a premium but the warmer weather means we need something a little bit lighter. These macs were also a big hit on SS2010 catwalks last year.

They’ve also made an appearance in a range of brand’s SS2010 campaigns, including Burberry (who can forget that gorgeous mac Emma Watson modelled for the brand).

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of the hottest macs this spring to ensure you brave the wet spring in style.

Pixie Lott models, new to the UK label, Supertrash

By Andrea Petrou on February 24th, 2010

Supertrash.jpg

Pixie Lott has been a busy girl over the past few months designing a range of charity clothing for various retailers. So it really comes as no surprise that the singer has been snapped up as the face of much coveted new range Supertrash.

The collection, which launches for the first time in the UK at My-Wardrobe.com, this week is said to blend pretty feminine styling with a punk rock twist. The range will include bright prints, flirty dresses and dramatic colours as well as boyfriend cardigans, and feminine blouses – meaning there is something for almost everyone.

Sarah Curran, ceo and founder of My-Wardrobe, told Vogue: “We are delighted to launch the Supertrash collection for spring/summer 2010.

“It’s a new label for both My-Wardrobe.com and for the UK. We are always focused on introducing new designer collections to the site, especially those new – much talked about – international designers, to continue to provide an exciting and accessible offer for our customer.”

And with Pixie Lott as the face of the brand we’re sure it’s going to be hot stuff.

ShinyStyle watch: Burberry at LFW

By Andrea Petrou on February 24th, 2010

Yesterday we bought you coverage and a round-up of Burberry’s much awaited London catwalk show, where the brand wowed us with aviation style jackets, furs and flimsy dresses.
However, we know that reading about it isn’t quite the same as seeing it for yourself so we’ve managed to get hold of a video of the show, which was streamed live yesterday.

Have a peak and let us know what you think about the styles by leaving your comments in the box below.

By Andrea Petrou on February 24th, 2010

Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland will be hitting cinemas on 5 March and it’s already caused a huge stir in the fashion world with a range of designers including Stella McCartney and Tim Binns, Swarovski creating jewellery inspired by the film.

In fact it’s become so popular amongst us fashionistas that Selfridges has also announced a pop-up shop dedicated to the blonde haired character. So we’ve decided to start off a mini-series bringing you everything Alice. Within this we’ll be including trends you might expect to see as a result of the film as will as clothing ideas to help you get into the Wonderland mood.

However to start off the series we’ve decided to put together a gallery of Alice in Wonderland inspired jewellery, which we predict will be huge over the next few months. We’ve already been grinning like Cheshire cats just looking at them.

ShinyStyle at LFW: Burberry Autumn/Winter 2010

By Andrea Petrou on February 23rd, 2010

burb.JPG
We’ve been eagerly awaiting Burberry’s offering at London Fashion Week, and have been counting down to the beginning of the show.

After all the British Brand’s recent collections thanks to the amazing directorship of creative director Christopher Bailey, and high profile ad campaigns have done more than enough to boost this company onto our fashion radars. And of course who can forget the celebrities that always come out in force for this show.

And we’re pleased to say we weren’t disappointed.

Celebrities including Kate Hudson and Twiggy turned out for the show, labelled by Mr Bailey as the “the Burberry Cadet girls” collection.

It included a range of big aviation and military pea coats, parkers, trench coats, heavily embellished with leather, buckles and zips, which contrasted with the flimsy dresses worn underneath with thigh high boots.

Hues included olive green, brown and black. There were even a few fuscia pink numbers, as well as one or two lace blouses whose ruffles and colours gave a nod to the late 80s.
And of course, fabric du jour fur also made a huge appearance on collarless and aviation style jackets as well as calf length buckled boots.

Mr Bailey said before the show, the collection “takes aviation as a pivotal focus but then gets much more decorative. It’s a very detailed collection.”

We couldn’t agree more Mr Bailey, except to say the collection was beautiful.

Elle Style awards: Best dressed

ELLE Style Awards 2010 - Winners Boards

It was another night of spectacular dresses by a range of designers at yesterday’s Elle Style Awards but as always there’s always the few that stand out.

First on our best dressed list was the gorgoeus Alexa Chung, who won the Editor’s Choice award. The starlet looked cute and girly in a blue frilled Chanel dress, which she matched up with a Chanel bag.

She was followed by Kristen Stewart who won the ELLE Style award for Woman of The Year, wearing a strapless panelled dress. However it seems the Twighlight star learnt her lesson from the Baftas the night before as she wore, what looked like a hoodie, to keep warm on yesterday’s red carpet

Twins Mary-Kate and Ashley also make it into our best dress list with their vintage and Gothic dresses. Mary Kate opted to show this by wearing head-to-toe Lanvin, while Ashley opted for a vintage Christian Lacroix dress with a dramatic taffeta train.
