Cindy Crawford designs a range of jewellery for JCPenny

By Andrea Petrou on February 5th, 2010
Premiere Of Paramount Pictures' "Up In The Air" - Arrivals

Cindy Crawford is one of those women we love to hate. She’s beautiful, has a gorgeous figure and she’s got brains.

Following the launch of her home collection at JCPenney, the US department store chain has now announced that it will be working with the supermodel to create a range of jewellery.

“One Kiss by Cindy Crawford,” is claimed to be inspired by a henna symbol which means “kiss,” and will include silver or gold necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings.

Cindy said: “I am thrilled to expand my partnership with JCPenney and look forward to bringing my expertise to the fine jewelry business.”

We hope the model’s collection will be coming to the UK soon, until then you can buy the collection online.

Emma Watson for V Magazine

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010

Emma Watson’s come along way from her Harry Potter days, taking on a range of modelling jobs and designing a collection for ethical clothing company People Tree.

We’ve watched as she’s grown from a bushy haired teen to a groomed glamorous lady fronting high end campaigns for Burberry.

However, just as we thought she couldn’t get anymore ladylike the actress appears in smudged eye make-up and smeared lipstick in an arty eight page spread for the new issue of America’s Vs magazine.

Not only is the vintage clothing and make-up a huge step from her Burberry campaign, but for once Emma actually looks like she’s having fun. There’s no smoldering looks on this spread.

The online shop has launched Asos Africa, a clothing and accessories collection that has been designed, sourced and produced by community groups in Africa.

The range has some gorgeous pieces of clothing including funky jumpsuits and blazers all crafted using traditional African techniques.

And if that wasn’t enough to get you rushing to your PC, all the workers are also given training and fair pay.

Armani relaunches it’s website

Paris Fashion Week Haute Couture S/S 2010 - Giorgio Armani Prive - Runway

With the cold weather continuing to bite and the rain not looking like its going to pass anytime soon, heading out the the highstreet isn’t looking too appealing.

In the past many of us have coped by buying the latest fashions from one of the huge range of online stores.

However, for those who like the designer delights of Bond Street, choices have been limited, until now that is.

Armani has just relaunched its website, bringing all it’s collections together and offering the chance to buy some beauty and fashion items as well as watches and branded mobile phones online.

Log onto the site and you’ll find Giorgio Armani, Emporio Armani, Armani Collezioni, Armani Jeans, Armani Exchange, Armani Junior and Armani Casa.

And you’ll also be able to view and comment on the collections through a dedicated Facebook page and YouTube channel.

We think this is a genius idea, but we think we may have to find an equally clever place to hide our purses and credit cards.

Get FLOWE(RED) this Valentines day

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010
Cat Deeley Launches Red Charity Online Flower Service

We know we’re more fashion than flowers, but with Valentines day approaching we thought we’d make a little exception, especially as it’s for a good cause.

Cat Deeley has launched FLOWE(RED)™, a new online flower service, which gives all the profits from each bouquet sold to helping provide medication and treatment for those living with HIV in Africa.

Although many of you may be angling for a new bag or shoes, we think receiving a gorgeous bunch of flowers that will, in theory, continue to spread the love well after they’ve died is more than enough of a reason to drop floral hints to your other half.

Prices range from £20-£65.

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010

Lara Stone Versace.jpg
Lara Stone has barely been out of the spotlight this year due to her high profile campaigns for Louis Vuitton and a number of magazine spreads.

And her personal life has also caused huge waves with the model announcing her engagement to funny man David Walliams last month.

However, today she’s racking up the column inches for her modelling and acting work starring in the new advert for Versace’s Versus fragrance.

The 30-second clip shows her dancing in a room full of mirrors with flashing pink and purple lights in the background. Sounds like our ideal Friday night.

Dita Von Teese teams up with Moschino to design an eye mask for charity.

By Andrea Petrou on February 4th, 2010

Dita and Moschino.jpg

Another famous figure has put their designing hat on for charity and this time it’s Dita Von Teese. The burlesque dancer has teamed up with Moschino to create a luxurious eye mask with 30% of the proceeds from each one going to amfAR, a charity that funds AIDS Research.

The handy sleeping accessory is made out of silk-satin with a spotted lack overlay and pictures of eyelashes we can only dream about as well as the words ‘Dita for Moschino’ in rhinestones.

We think its a perfect way to look good while you’re sleeping, and a great way to shut out any light or disturbances. We just wish someone would think about creating some designer earplugs to match.

Buy the mask exclusively from Moschino now for £100.

Kate Moss poses for Harpers Bazaar and confesses why she doesn’t see herself as a fashion designer

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

Kate Moss shows us why she’s one of the most successful models of this era with this stunning shoot for Hapers Bazaar.

Posing in seductive, cleavage-revealing lingerie, Moss gets into bed with two guys before confessing she doesn’t consider herself a fashion designer: “I’m not really a fashion designer. I just love clothes. I’ve never been to design school. I can’t sketch. I can’t cut patterns and things. I can shorten things. I can make a dress out of a scarf,” she told the magazine

We’ll be buying the magazine so we can keep that quote next to us while we’re unsuccessfully trying to draw out our dream dress, and we’re sure many men will be sneaking this issue off the shelf too.

View LFW shows from the comfort of your sofa

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010
Didit Hediprasetyo Spring Summer 2010 Haute Couture fashion presentation - Paris

It’s good news for fashionistas, who like to keep their eye on all the latest trends but can’t make it to London Fashion Week.

Because this season every show shown in the British Fashion Council tent at Somerset House from the 19th to 24th will be streamed live meaning you can watch shows from designers including Jaeger London and PPQ on your laptop.

There will also be exclusive films from Hussein Chalayan, Boudicca, Twenty8Twelve and Danielle Scutt.

We think this is an excellent idea, especially as recently as a few years ago these shows could only be watched by magazine folk.

We’ve got our favourite slippers and mug for tea at the ready.

Scarlett Johansson designs a bag for Mango to help victims of the Haiti earthquake

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

Mango.jpg
We’re more than used to hearing about celebrities designing clothes and accessories for different stores, but we get really excited when they’re doing it for charity.

Stepping in to this category is Scarlett Johansson who has designed a bag for Mango and all profits raised will go directly to Oxfam to help victims of the Haiti earthquake.

Of her collaboration with the store she currently models for, Scarlett said: ‘I’m thrilled to be collaborating with Mango to promote conscious consumerism and to benefit Oxfam’s Haiti Earthquake Response Fund. By purchasing this bag, you are helping to provide life saving assistance like clean water to the people of Haiti.’

The bag, which will be sold in Mango stores for £16.90, has the message ‘Helping the people of Haiti’, plus the actress’s signature beside a print depicting an ancient map of the country.

We’ll be bagging ourselves one of these as soon as they hit the shelves in March.

ShinyStyle campaign: We need your help to get retailers to sort out their sizes

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

Denim.jpg

My fun jeans Inbetweener and research articles have taken a serious turn.

After they were published I received many emails from you telling me about all the trouble you’ve been having finding that perfect size.

I didn’t realise this was that much of a problem and affected people so badly, so I called up Asda, who already stock inbetween sizes to see if there was really a demand for these measurements.

Joanne Newbold, a representative for the supermarket told me: “This range is popular. We trailed it just under a year ago and the popularity has led us to expand the range to include different styles and colours.”

This confirmation, plus your comments, has lead us to start a campaign. We want to badger retailers to either stock sizes with an industry wide universal measurement system or to follow Asda’s lead and introduce inbetween sizes.

However, to really make it work we need your help. So we’ve started the campaign off with a small survey, which we can take to retailers to show them that we mean business.

We put together the best pyjamas on the market so you can rebel in style

By Andrea Petrou on February 3rd, 2010

Last Friday we told you about Tesco banning their customers from wearing pyjama’s when they were shopping instore.

Newspapers and TV broadcasters also went to town with the story and The Sun even conducted it’s own experiment sending out its reporters to department and high end retailers such as Debenhams and Harrods to see the stores reactions.

The results? They didn’t have any problem at all.

If you want to be a bit of a rebel, or have secretly always wanted to go out in your PJs then nows the perfect time to do so.

We’ve also decided to help you along your sleepy way with a gallery of the best nightwear out there so you can rebel in style.

Stella McCartney uses old and new for her SS2010 campaign

By Andrea Petrou on February 2nd, 2010

Stella and Natalie.jpg

We’ve known for a while that Stella McCartney was a genius (you only have to look at her designs to see it). However, just when we thought she couldn’t get anymore creative, she’s wowed us all over again.

For her new spring/summer 2010 campaign the designer has incorporated a picture of her old pet dalmatian, which was taken by her mother in 1976, with the clothes from her latest collection modelled by Natalia Vodianova.

Stella said the new campaign was: “Fashion meets reportage, mixing color, and black-and-white. A family animal with an outside atmosphere meets studio lights, camera, action!”

By Andrea Petrou on February 2nd, 2010

t’s February, and that means only one thing; the shops and the internet are gearing up for the biggest love event of the year. If like us, you have no idea what to get your other half then why not go for something that you can both enjoy as well as easing your conscious at the same time?

“Life is Not Fair but my Knickers Are” is the latest range of Fairtrade nightwear and underwear by By Nature and each piece in the range has been designed by and made from certified Fairtrade cotton.

Not only is the collection gorgeous and reasonably priced but it’s also doing a lot to help saves lives in developing countries.

According to By Nature, two billion people – a third of humanity – survive on less than $2 a day. Unfair trade rules keep them in poverty, but they face the global challenges of food shortages and climate change too. Fairtrade certification gives developing world producers more control of their own lives, by getting a better deal for the work that they do.

We know we’ll feel a warmth in our hearts at helping someone this Valentines day and if you want to keep this feeling for that little bit longer than why not visit our eco friendly website Hippy Shopper, to get more ideas for valentine’s ethical gifts this year.
