Oscars 2010: Danny Glover asks stars to boycott Hugo Boss

wenn5376526.jpgIt's usually the trends that dictate red carpet outfit choices, but this year actor and activist Danny Glover has introduced ethics into the mix by asking attendees not to wear Hugo Boss suits to tonight's Academy Awards.

The Lethal Weapon star has sent a letter to nominees and presenters asking them to boycott the designer on behalf of workers at the company's plant in Cleveland, who will lose their jobs if the factory closes at the end of next month as planned.

The letter, dated February 26, asked the film industry to "take a small stand for American workers" by shunning the designer, who has disputed reports that the closure will leave almost 400 workers jobless. Glover has also asked stars to wear lapel pins on the red carpet, reading "Keep the Hugo Boss Plant Open".

We're sure that the stars will be keen to support a noble cause - but with less than two weeks to rethink their outfits, we'll be interested to see if Boss makes a controversial appearance on the red carpet tonight...
