Victoria Beckham hints at her Oscar 2010 dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2010

Victorias catwalk dress.jpg

We’ve been guessing about what A-list celebrities will be wearing for tonight’s Oscars, and although we know many will be wearing ones from various designers we’re still slightly in the dark.

Thankfully Victoria has gone some way to ease our curiousness, if her claims in today’s Sunday Times are anything to go by.

Speaking about her A/W 2010 collection the singer, turned all round fashionista said: “Dick Tracy and the 1940s have inspired my [latest] collection.”

She then went on to pinpoint a nude off the shoulder frock [pictured], which she claimed was the “perfect red-carpet dress.

“I’m tempted to wear it to the Oscars myself,” she added.

So will other celebrities be thinking along the same style lines? Keep reading for our live Oscar coverage later on tonight to find out.

Oscars 2010: Danny Glover asks stars to boycott Hugo Boss

By laurenbravo on March 7th, 2010

wenn5376526.jpgIt’s usually the trends that dictate red carpet outfit choices, but this year actor and activist Danny Glover has introduced ethics into the mix by asking attendees not to wear Hugo Boss suits to tonight’s Academy Awards.

The Lethal Weapon star has sent a letter to nominees and presenters asking them to boycott the designer on behalf of workers at the company’s plant in Cleveland, who will lose their jobs if the factory closes at the end of next month as planned.

The letter, dated February 26, asked the film industry to “take a small stand for American workers” by shunning the designer, who has disputed reports that the closure will leave almost 400 workers jobless. Glover has also asked stars to wear lapel pins on the red carpet, reading “Keep the Hugo Boss Plant Open”.

We’re sure that the stars will be keen to support a noble cause – but with less than two weeks to rethink their outfits, we’ll be interested to see if Boss makes a controversial appearance on the red carpet tonight…

Oscar fashions through the eras: 2009

By Andrea Petrou on March 7th, 2010

On Friday we bought you galleries of all all the Oscar fashions dating right back to the 1930s, and we’re sure you’ll agree they made for some pretty interesting viewing.

Even if we didn’t always agree with the styles. However, with the 2010 Oscars due to happen in a few hours (well 9 to be precise) we wanted to finish off our mini series where we left off and that’s the best dressed celebrities of the 2009 awards. Many of you will remember at least one or two of the dresses sported by some well known actresses (who can forget Sarah Jessica Parker‘s bridal inspired dress?) and we hope this gallery does its job and reminds you.

However, it wasn’t just Jessica who chose to wear bridal, Penelope Cruz and Miley Cyrus also opted for frocks, which could be mistaken for walking down the aisle with instead of down the red carpet.

And remember keep reading because we’ll be bringing you live coverage as all the red action happens tonight.

Oscar Fashions through the eras: 2000-2006

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

It’s been a whirlwind of fashion statements through the eras, with sparkles, trousers and of course heels.

However in the beginning of 2000 the fashions began to change with many actresses opting for designer dresses. Some ensured they stood out by being wacky, while others chose to be more demure.

There are so many great dresses in this era that we could write about them all day. Instead, however we’ve decided to bring you the best dressed stars from 2000-2006. But don’t go away because we’ll be bringing you the next set, along with all the coverage from the 2010 Oscars over the weekend.

Oscar Fashions through the eras: 1960s to 1980s

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

As the eras continued, the glitz and the glamour of the Oscars still remained. There was more sparkle, higher heels and lower cleavages.

Some actresses were also that little bit more daring, opting for never been heard of before trouser suits.

However one thing the 60s-80s bought us were amazing stars, such as Bridget Fonda, who began winning Oscar awards in 1970, and Meryl Streep, who still continues to pick up these awards.

Oscar Fashions through the eras: 1930s to 1950s

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

As we all know the Oscars are one of the biggest events of the showbiz year with celebrities, actors and actresses pulling out the stops to shine on the red carpet.

We’ve seen many a fashion thumbs up and also some faux pas in our time, but what about all those events we missed out on?

Therefore we’ve decided to go right back to Hollywood glamour and take a look at some of the glitz and glam from the Oscars in different eras.

First up are the 1930s right through to the 50s, where original starlets such as Audrey Hepburn, Grace Kelly and Viviene Leigh stepped out to wow the crowds. As you can imagine it makes for some pretty impressive fashion viewing.

Oscars 2010: What will Twilight star Kristen Stewart wear on the night?

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010

It’s always hard to predict what stars will be wearing to any event, let alone the Oscars. However we’re a curious bunch over here at ShinyStyle so we’ve been having a little think about what some celebrities may decide to wear on the night based on some of their styles from previous events this year. First up on our list is Twighlight star Kristen Stewart.

To be honest we were surprised that she chose to wear a white beaded Chanel dress to the Baftas, after all she’s well known for her grungy dark looks. However, previous events have seen her stick to her style. Just a day after the Baftas the star attended the Elle Style awards in a strapless boned black and white dress, which we think suited her style much more.

And earlier in February she attended the LA premier of the Yellow Handkerchief in a fitted black dress, with beading down the sides, again showing her natural style.

So what will she wear on the night of the Oscars? Judging by all her dresses we can be sure she’ll opt for short. We also think she’ll stick to something she feels comfortable in, so our prediction is a LBD by a well known designer such as Chanel or Burberry, after all she was in the front row of the designer’s LFW show.

We’re we right? Click back on Monday where we’ll be bringing you all the Oscar 2010 celebrity fashion.

Get the Look: Eva Longoria’s 2010 pre-Oscar party dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010
The Hollywood Reporter's Oscar Nominee Dinner - Arrivals

We told you in our last post that pink was the trend du jour for all those pre-Oscar 2010 parties and it seems we were right. However it seems that any shade of this colour goes with celebrities.

Another champion of the pink frock is Desperate Housewives star Eva Longoria Parker who attended The Hollywood Reporter‘s Nominees’ Night Prelude to Oscar, presented by Bing and MSN at the Mayor‘s Residence. The actress opted for a shift dress, which dare we say, looks very Victoria Beckham style, but this time in a dark fuscia. Unlike many stars she also kept her hair simple and plain, opting for a straight blowdry over a fancy up-do. She continued the smart/casual look with a pair of beige heels.

Again we’ve been out hunting the highstreet for a perfect match and think this shift dress from Asos is an almost perfect match. Jazz it up with a pair of black gladiator heels for that ultimate pre party look.

Get the look: Mena Suvari’s Oscar 2010 pre-party dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 5th, 2010
3rd Annual Women In Film Pre-Oscar Party - Arrivals

The Oscar pre-parties are in full swing as celebrities don their pre Oscar dresses and hit the red carpet.

Yesterday we spotted Jessica Alba looking hot in pale pink, and it seems this may be becoming the trend for these parties.

American Beauty star Mena Suvari arrived at the 3rd Annual Women In Film Pre-Oscar Party at a private residence in Bel Air last night in a satin tunic empire dress with chiffon ruffle detailing. She also took a tip out of Amy Winehouse’s beauty book opting for a small behive.

Get Mena’s look with this tunic dress complete with ruffles from Dorothy Perkins, we think for £35 its a style steal. Team up with silver sandals for the ultimate Oscar Party look.

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

As well as Jessica Alba a range of celebrites danced and posed the night away at various pre Oscar 2010 parties, each looking as well dressed as each other.

Mel B was spotted at the Global Green pre-Oscar party in a pink strapless frock, while pussycat Doll Nicole went for a modest maxi dress for her look.

And even sports stars joined in the fun with Tennis Pro Serena Williams making an appearance in a stunning black sequined dress. Good at sport and fashionable? Some girls have all the luck.

Get the look: Jessica Alba’s Global Green pre 2010 Oscar party pink dress

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

This weekend stars galore will be hitting the red carpet for one of the most talked about events for the year. The Oscars.

However although the party doesn’t officially begin until Sunday, the great hype surrounding it is already underway, and in true Hollywood style pre-parties are springing up everywhere.

One such party is the 7th annual Global Green pre-Oscar party, which was held at Avalon
Los Angeles, last night. And the rain didn’t stop stars from attending.

One celeb braving the weather was Jessica Alba who turned up alongside husband Cash Warren hiding under a huge umbrella.

However it wasn’t that which caught our eye. It was her gorgeous pink chiffon short V front frock complete with capped sleeves and a black sash and strappy sandals. We think the Sin City star looks stunning and has got the smart/casual look spot on for a pre-party.

We’ve therefore put together a gallery of similar frocks and shoes to help you get that perfect party look.

Vivienne Westwood designs limited edition plastic bottles

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

Viv Westwood bottles.jpg

Plastic bottles aren’t exactly what we would call fashionable, but add an iconic designer into the mix and you’ll get something pretty special.

Dame Vivienne Westwood has paired up with SIGG, the makers of the original Swiss reusable aluminium bottle, to build awareness around the unnecessary waste and harm that is caused to the environment by purchasing and throwing away plastic.

And the strange, but kooky relationship between the two has created a limited series of design bottles.

The three Limited Edition Vivienne Westwood bottles will be launched later on in 2010 and will coincide with the main fashion shows in June and September.

These limited editions will be exclusively available to invited guests and backstage at the shows, as well as a few available in selected stores.

Get drinking ladies. It’s good for fashion and the environment.

Diane von Furstenberg releases album for charity

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

Diane Von F charity.jpg

In Victor Meldrews words “I don’t believe it.” So what’s got us moaning like an old man from One Foot in the Grave? News that Diane von Furstenberg has just released an album to raise money for charity.

We’ve heard of models and actresses turning to the microphone but this one has got to be a first. However, before you get too excited at hearing the designers singing talents (if they’re as good as her designs we’re in for a treat) we have to point out that she actually sung. The album is a compilation of songs by her favourite female artists, including Estelle and Annie Lennox, to mark next week’s International Women’s Day.

‘Proud To Be Woman’ is available to buy from itunes and money raised will be donated to Vital Voices, a charity that champions women’s rights across the globe. We think this is a unique idea and we’re all up for helping charity but we think it may have been better for the designer to do what she does best. We’d definitely buy a charity t-shirt, dress or jumper if she designed one.

Lady Gaga phones home for appearance in Friday night with Jonathan Ross Show

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

Lady G Jonathan Ross.jpg

It doesn’t look like Lady Gaga’s fashion fun is going to end anytime soon, in fact it seems to be getting more outrageous the more time she spends in the UK.

Not content with lobsters on her head the singer turned up to film the Friday Night with Jonathan Ross show (due to be aired this Friday) with an old school Telephone hat on her head.

We know she may be trying to promote her “Telephone” single but maybe the singer went a little bit too far this time, especially when you consider her goldfish bowl shoes, although kudos to the singer for being able to walk in these.

Although we can’t be sure rumour has it that Miss G also continued her phone fetish by dancing around a telephone booth.

We’ll be cancelling our nights out or setting our boxes to record to catch this episode. And remember, next time you want to do something ‘hip’ there’s never a telephone box too far away. Get that iPod and those dancing shoes out and head to your nearest calling point.

Get the look: Twighlight star Ashley Greene’s Barbie T-shirt

By Andrea Petrou on March 4th, 2010

Ashley.JPG

We love it when we see celebrities in affordable fashions, especially when they are cute and kooky.

So imagine our delight when we spotted Twighlight star Ashley Greene jogging in LA sporting this adorable ‘Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful’ Barbie’ tee at a barganious £24.99 from Truffle Shuffle.

Barbie.JPG

Although retro t-shirts have been around for a while now it doesn’t seem our obsession with them is going to end anytime soon, especially when you consider nearly every celebrity, from Katie Price to Pixie Lott have been spotted at some time or other over the past few months wearing them.

And there’s just about any old school cartoon to be found on these too. We love Barbie, but we also love the My Little Pony styles, Micky Mouse, and of course Alice in Wonderland print tees, which are going to be huge this season.

Team up with jeans and heels for an understated look or wear down the gym a la Ashley.
