Go barefoot tonight and help TOMs raise awareness for children in developing countries

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

TOMS.jpg

We know, like us, many of you have shoe fetishes. And if you’re as bad as us, you’ll know how long it takes to find the perfect pair and then match them up to the perfect outfit.
Why not save time and do your bit for charity by going without?

No we haven’t gone mad. TOMS Shoes is holding its third annual One Day Without Shoes event today, and is encouraging us to go barefoot for one day to highlight the plight of children in developing countries who contract diseases from soil-based parasites as a result of not having any shoes.

Every girl who goes without their footwear this evening (forget those flip-flops) will be helping the charity, which pledges to match every pair of shoes sold with a pair of new shoes given to a child in need raise awareness.

So what are you waiting for? Get those feet out ladies! It’s for a good cause.

Gallery: Spring/summer hats

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

The sun is shining and the first few hints of summer are showing through. We know that many of you are sitting at your desks wishing you could bask in that sun (we’re definitely wishing we were in a park with a picnic) and we’re praying as much as you that the weather continues into the weekend.

However, with the sun comes spring/summer fashion and one trend which is going to be huge this season, is hats.

These appeared across the SS2010 LFW catwalk with designers such as Mulberry and Vivienne Westwood making straw and trilby hats a key focal point in their collections.

So we’ve decided to put together a gallery of the best summer hats out there, which will not only keep you looking on-trend but also last right through to your summer holiday.

Team up with cropped jeans, denim shorts and a ethical style tee for that casual summer look or dress them up with a maxi dress for nights out in a restaurant or bar.

ShinyStyle watch: Kelly Brook for Ultimo video

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

We’ve definitely got a lingerie theme going today, so we thought we’d carry on the trend with this stunning Ultimo video staring Kelly Brook.

The model, who was announced as the face of the brand earlier this month, gets posing in little lace undies for this 32-second video, and we have to admit, she’s looking good.

Michelle Mone, brand creator of Ultimo said: “The advert is completely in harmony with Ultimo – it’s sexy, edgy and feminine.

“We wanted to add an element of virality to our Spring campaign, and this film was a surefire way of doing that. It’s already proving incredibly popular online,’with hundreds of people clambering to see Kelly at her sexiest.”

Let us know what you think of Kelly’s curves by watching the video and leaving your comments below.

Review: Underwear as outwear Coco corset top

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

CouCou Nick.jpg

While we’re on the topic of underwear we thought it was about time we gave you a little review.

Underwear as outerwear was a hot trend last season, and while it’s slowly fazing out, it’s not going without a fight, with many people still opting for this look on a night out.
Back in January I was sent an underwear set complete with corset and undies from Wickedelic Lingerie.

Although the top wasn’t meant to be worn outside the house, it’s straps and monochrome design, plus it’s comfort , made me decide that I’d give the outerwear as underwear look a go, after all, if it’s good enough for Miss G, it’s more than good enough for me.

So did anyone bat an eyelid or is this piece of fashion so integrated into our everyday lives that no-one even looks twice? I took my corset on a night out to find out.

Corset’s first drink: Local Bar
My corset’s first visit was a local bar where people were gearing up for a causal night in front of the footie. Although I was wearing jeans I felt very out of place amongst the jumpers and if anyone was going to comment on my “nearly nude” dress sense, I thought it would be here, especially given the tie back. However, when the coat came off no one even looked my way, and I didn’t even get served quickly.

Verdict: Even though I was dressed as a WAG footie fans weren’t interested in my underwear top.

Corset’s second drink: The tube
Thanks to the Mayor of London’s ruling, my corset and I didn’t technically have a drink on the tube, but it was still an outing. Although I don’t usually take my coat off on a tube, research forced me to do so, and although I got a slightly surprised second glance from a woman, my journey wasn’t uncomfortable at all. In fact, as we moved closer to the city my corset began to make friends with the other range of similar tops worn by girl’s getting ready for a big night out.

Verdict: People were as disinterested in my choice of clothing as much as they are when they see a pregnant woman standing up in a packed carriage.

Corset’s last drink: Central London Bar
To be honest I didn’t expect to have any comments here, after all, a Saturday night out is full of girls getting dressed up and having fun. However, on taking my coat off in the queue I got a dubious once over by the bouncer, and when I walked past him to reveal my open back, I was hauled back out and asked for ID leading me to wonder whether wearing slightly revealing clothes suggests your trying to hard. Once inside I could have been wearing a T-shirt, no-one batted an eyelid, and I even got a compliment about my top while queueing for the ladies.

Verdict: Underwear as outerwear has become a huge trend, with many people taking this look as the Saturday night out norm. However, if you want to carry off this look we advise investing in some quality underwear. Going out in that discoloured Marks and Spencer bra will not have the desired affect.

Our lovely underwear set was called Coco and you can buy it here now for £25.

Eva Herzigova designs collection for 1.2.3

By Andrea Petrou on April 8th, 2010

Eva Herzigova.jpg
Models turning into designers are no longer huge news to us, because lets face it, a lot of them are doing it. Next up on the designing bandwagon is Eva Herzigova .

The former supermodel and face of Wonderbra has signed a two year designing deal with French brand 1.2.3.

According to WWD, the collection, which launches in Paris today will include 30 classic and timeless pieces including trench, nautical and fitted styles in a range of pastel colours.

Eva said: It’s a lot about the people, who they are, what they want from you and what I want to get across; this is the best match.”

And she won’t just be behind the scenes, she’ll also be modelling the collection too.

Laurent Michior, deputy managing director of 1.2.3, which is owned by Etam and already has Natalia Vodianova as a designer, said Eva will create two collections each season for the next two years. We can’t wait to see the designs.

Lady Gaga claims she was bullied at school and Rihanna has a go at the Telephone stars “blatant” product placement

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

Lady Gaga introduces pants as outerwear

This morning we told you Rihanna had spoken about her “body issues” and now it seems Lady Gaga wants our sympathy vote too.

The singer, who yesterday claimed she suffered from severe bouts of insomnia, has spoken out about her school days claiming she was bullied.

In an interview with Cosmopolitan she said she struggled to fit in at her all girls school in New York.

“I had a very big nose, very curly brown hair and I was overweight. I got made fun of,” she said.

We know who’s laughing at those bullies now Ms Gaga.

However, it seems we’re not the only ones pitting Ms G and Rihanna against each other.

The Umbrella star has started her own war of words with the kooky singer hinting Ms G “sold out” by using blatant product placements in her Telephone video.

Rihanna said: “I don’t like things to be so commercial. I hate product placement in my videos. Videos should just tell the story of the song. With product placement, it becomes this big ad campaign. I just don’t like that. Sometimes we have to (use products in music videos), for whatever political reason, but it’s never my first choice.”

Could this be the beginning of a full blown fight between two of the hottest stars? Watch this space.

Shinystyle watch: Coca Rocha gets caught in the (Sister) act

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

We love Coco Rocha but sometimes enough is enough.

The recently engaged model has been caught in the (Sister) Act dancing and miming along to Whoopi Goldberg’s ‘I Will Follow Him.’

Now we know we’ve all done it, either at home or at the pub karaoke, but the difference is we aren’t famous and haven’t put our drunken antics online.

We know it was a tribute to your soon-to-be-hubby, James Conran and we’re sure he appreciated it, but Coco we’re cringing for you.

Battle of the lingerie models: Kelly Brook VS Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

It’s been a month of lingerie model sign ups and drops. Two weeks ago Ultimo announced Kelly Brook as the face of it’s main lingerie range before dropping Peaches Geldof as the face of Miss Ultimo following claims of heroin use.

And today Monsoon has launched it’s first campaign shots staring Rosie Huntington-Whiteley.
We think the Victoria’s Secret angel looks stunning, but is she a better model than Kelly and which campaign really stands out?

Take a look at the gallery below and then let us know by voting.

Jennifer Aniston finally names her perfume Lola Vie

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Jennifer Aniston.jpg

Last month we were thrown into a guessing game following announcements that Jennifer Aniston was launching an unnamed perfume.

And we came up with a range of weird and wacky names. However, today our minds have been put at ease with the announcement that Jen’s new fragrance will be called ‘Lola Vie,’ which loosely translated means ‘laughing at life’ in French.

The perfume, which at the time of the announcement was loosely rumoured to be called Aniston, is a joint venture between the actress and the Falic Group, and according to Jen has been in the pipeline for “over a year,” because she was “picky” about the smell.

Well the leading lady does have a point doesn’t she.

Lindsay Lohan to add handbags and tops to her 6126 range

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

Lindsay Lohan
Lindsay Lohan hasn’t been very lucky in life recently. Her acting work has taken a dry spell and her designs for Ungaro didn’t quite hit the fashion mark leading to rumours that she’d been sacked as creative director.

However the actress seems to be fighting back. According to NY Mag she’s added a range of new clothing and handbags to her own fashion line 6126, which is currently just a leggings range at the moment.

She will be using the same licensee that produces bags for Christian Audigier‘s Ed Hardy line, the California Bag Company, to produce the handbags for the next three years.

The collection, which is said to include 280 garments is due to hit stores in July and will also include tops designed to match her range of leggings.

We can’t wait to see the new looks and we really hope they aren’t as bad as her designs for Ungaro.

Rihanna admits she has “body hang-ups”

By Andrea Petrou on April 7th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Rihanna leggings.jpg

Yesterday it was Lady Gaga keeping herself up all night with worries about her latest outfit and today Rihanna’s telling us she has body hang-ups.

The popstar has admitted she has “ugly days” like the rest of us.

Although she’s regularly voted one of the most sexiest women in the world Rihanna said: “I have an ugly day every month; pimples on my face, I’m fat and in a bad mood. It’s more like an ugly week!”

And unlike many celebrities (yes, we’re talking to you Charlotte Church) Rihanna freely admits her stunning figure is down to exercise.

She said: “I’ve been working out a lot and I eat pretty boring – boiled egg, fruit, tons of water and some chicken. Well, this week I’ve eaten some other things but really small portions. I hate vegetables. I hate anything healthy, but if you want the results you’ve got to do it. I haven’t even been drinking alcohol with dinner since I’ve been with this diet.”

Do you think Rihanna has anything to worry about with her looks and figure? Let us know by leaving your comments below.

Kristen Stewart vs Carey Mulligan: Who should win the lead role for the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo?

By Andrea Petrou on April 6th, 2010

Kristen Stewart and Carey Mulligan are both huge style icons and great actresses in our books. However, when there’s only one role going between the two of them, things can get a little competitive.

The two stars have found themselves competing to win the lead role in the new film adaptation of Steig Larsson’s bestselling novel, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, which is currently a huge Swedish film.

In fact it’s done so well that Fight Club director David Fincher is looking for a star to fill the shoes of tattoo-covered computer hacker Lisbeth Salander for an English re-make.

We’re very torn over here at ShinyStyle as to who should win the part. So we want your help we’ve also decided to throw a style competition into the mix too. View the gallery of the two actresses below and let us know who you think would be better as the sassy star of the film and who wins the style wars too.

Lady Gaga’s outfits cause her sleepless nights

By Andrea Petrou on April 6th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Lady Gaga Hat

It seems being a quirky fashion queen is once again taking its toll on Lady Gaga.

According to reports the pop star is so concerned about her outfits she’s beginning to suffer from huge bouts of insomnia.

A source said: “She’s always planning her next outfit and wanting to constantly out-do herself. She never switches off. Ever. She’s well on her way to a breakdown and we’re all worried.”

In fact her sleeping patterns are so bad that Miss G admitted during her last bout of severe insomnia she stayed wide-eyed and wired for three days. Despite this the singer refuses to take any medication to help her visit the land of nod.

“I lie in bed and try to pray and breathe. I have a very overactive mind,” she said.

“I’m the sort of person who would never take medication to calm myself. It’s maddening.

“But I love what comes out. If my destiny is to lose my mind because of fame, then that’s my destiny. My passion means more than anything.”

Lady Gaga’s outfits have caused health concerns before and it was only last month that we reported that the popstar had risked her health by wearing a tight outfit on a long haul flight.

Miss G, we love your fashion and we’ve had the occasional night where we’ve been awake teaming jeans and tops up in our heads, but really, your next crazy outfit is not worth losing sleep over.
