Friday fashion fracas: Which SATC2 character wins your style vote?

By Andrea Petrou on May 28th, 2010

Over the week we’ve been bringing you each of the Sex and the City 2 characters styles where we have used clips from the film to match up some highstreet alternatives. However, one thing we haven’t done, is get you to tell us who your best dressed SATC2 character is.

Is it Carrie who seems to have an effortless stylish wardrobe full of layered, lose and fitted puff dresses and fears no fashion trend or is it Charlotte who may not be as edgy as the other three but works the structured dress and trouser look amazingly well.

Or perhaps it’s the daring, carefree and downright sexy look Samantha always seems to carry off, whether it’s a tight dress or trouser we think she always looks hot. And then there’s Miranda, who really shone in the SATC2 movie elegantly working her trademark shift dresses and turning these from boring office wear to fashion must have.

Have a look at our mini gallery and then vote and leave your comments below to let us know who wins the Sex and the City 2 style wars.

Kristen Stewart doesn’t like being famous

By Andrea Petrou on May 28th, 2010

Kristen shows casual can be chic in this outfit.

Oh dear, there’s putting your foot in it and then there’s just being rude, and we’re really sorry Kristen fans but we think Ms Stewart is definitely the latter here.

The actress who plays Bella in the Twilight series isn’t very happy about her fame comparing paparazzi pics of herself to “watching someone being raped.”

She’s also not too keen on her fans. Talking about all the attention, she was quoted by Showbiz Spy as saying: “It’s so weird, that you have to be worried about people seeing things.

“You want to be excited about something, normal people can be excited about their lives, and I am, too, but it’s such a different thing. It comes out as entertainment for other people and that makes me want to throw up.”

Hmmm Kristen if we had so much going for us we wouldn’t be complaining. We hope R-Patz doesn’t feel the same way.

Gallery: The Sex and the City 2 London Premier

By Andrea Petrou on May 28th, 2010

It’s finally happened. The SATC2 film has officially opened in UK cinemas today. And last night the stars, and of course our four favourite girls, were out in force to celebrate the London Premier.

We were lucky enough to get there and see all the action for ourselves, and unlike many premiers where the stars pose for a second on the red carpet before being pulled away, the four girls were more than happy to talk to all their fans from the balcony of the Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square.

Sarah Jessica Parker turned up to the event in a strapless black Alexander McQueen wiggle hem dress and bag and heels. She also, as predicted, went for a huge attention grabbing black hat by Philip Treacy (be careful Lady Gaga someone may be stealing your headpiece crown)

She also made a tribute to the late designer, saying: ”There’s only one person I could have worn tonight and that was Alexander McQueen. Lee, this is for you. I miss you very much.”

The fashionista then changed into a blue long gown for the afterparty held at the Orangery in Kensington.

Kristin Davis also wowed us on the red carpet with her vintage gold empire line Norman Norell halterneck gown, which she teamed with Jimmy Choo shoes, before going for a green taffeta frock for the after party while Cynthia Nixon went for a turquoise frock by Narciso Rodriguez, which she teamed up with Christian Louboutin shoes. She too changed into a shorter, more casual black and white patterned strapless dress for the afterparty.

However, Kim Cattrall kept her black Thierry Mugler gown and Manolo Blahnik heels on for both events, and unlike the other stars who were rumoured to have left the afterparty after only two hours, Kim rolled in at 1:30.

Other guests we caught on the red carpet were Alexandra Burke, Rachel Stevens and Tess Daly. We won’t spoil the film for you, but we will say expect lots of laughs and definitely make it a night out with the girls.

Fashion Crush: Marks and Spencer denim palysuit

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2010

Denim playsuit-400.jpg

The sun is out (for the time being anyway) and that means only one thing. It’s time to get those legs out while you can.

We’ve already given you a gallery of shorts and some very lovely skirts, but we couldn’t resist telling you about this gorgeous playsuit we spotted on our Marks and Spencer travels.

The denim lovely ticks all the right trend boxes, it gives a nod to the er, demin trend and of course a huge one to playsuits, which are hot this season. We love also love the 80s neck detailing, which makes it look all retro.

Team up with a pair of brogues for a funky vintage look or heels for an evening outfit.

Topshop launches banstand picnics in aid of the Teenage Cancer Trust

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2010

Not content with making us spend our hard earned cash keeping us up all night thinking about all it’s latest styles, Topshop is now moving into the mini-festival space.

The highstreet clothing heaven is putting on a range of events called the “Topshop Bandstand Picnics”, which will play host to a range of top bands, sports day games and make-overs.

However, we’ll let it off for once again making us part with our cash as these events are for charity and being held in conjunction with the Teenage Cancer Trust.

The events, which will take place throughout June in London, Bristol, Liverpool and Birmingham, will be presented by T4′s Jameela Jamil and Miquita Oliver, the first event takes place on 12 June in London’s Regent’s Park and as well as listen to music you’ll also be able to buy fun cakes from Lola’s cupcakes and one-off Topshop rain ponchos. And the more you buy the more money that will be raised for charity.

Grab your blanket and head down to one of the events. After all, it’s for a good cause.

Sarah Burton rumoured to be the new creative director for Alexander McQueen

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2010

Highland rape collection

It’s a question that’s been going around fashion circles since the tragic death of Alexander McQueen. After the Gucci Group made it clear the label was here to stay, everyone was left wondering who would replace the designer as creative director.

However, it seems the wait is over. According to WWD, McQueen’s right-hand woman Sarah Burton, is about to be given the role.

Sarah had worked with McQueen for 16 years, and even oversaw the completion of his final collection in time for Paris Fashion Week. With credentials like that we know she’ll do Alexander proud

Gallery: National Movie Awards

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2010

It’s been a month of parties and events for both Hollywood and British A-listers. In the space of 5 weeks we’ve had the Soap Awards, Louis Vuitton‘s Maison store opening, Cannes and now the National Movie Awards, which were held yesterday at the Royal Festival Hall.

Diane Kruger turned up at the event, which gave audiences sneak previews of up coming films such as SATC2 and Toy Story 3, and presented an award in a gorgeous olive green taffeta short dress, which she accessories with skyscraper shoes and bold jewellery.
Kylie Minogue went for a knee length multicoloured asymmetric dress while Gwyneth Paltrow played it girly in a cute pink layered dress complete with matching pink shoes.

However our best dressed of the night has got to go to Emma Watson. The star who turned up to collect an award for Harry Potter and Half Blood Prince went for what we can only describe as a designer cheerleaders outfit complete with sparkles. It shouldn’t work, but let’s face it, Emma could wear a plastic bag and still look great.

ASA bans UK Louis Vuitton ads for being misleading

By Andrea Petrou on May 27th, 2010

Louis V.jpg

Louis Vuitton has had a slap on the wrist by the UK Advertising Standards Authority.
Just a day after the designer gained great acclaim for his Maison store opening, two of his adverts, which show craftsman stitching his leather goods by hand, have been banned over here for “misleading” customers.

The ASA said the ban was because Vuitton’s bags and wallets are made by machine, not by hand. It said although Louis Vuitton provided it with evidence that many ‘hand-crafting techniques’ were used in the production of the bag and wallet, it fell short of what was needed to prove the products were made by hand.

“We noted that we had not seen documentation that detailed the entire production process for Louis Vuitton products or that showed the proportion of their manufacture that was carried out by hand or by machine.”

We don’t think this would be something that would stop us from buying the brand, it’s more our overdraft and credit card limits that are to blame for the lack of LV items in our wardrobes.

Has this put you off buying the brand. Leave your comments below and let us know.

Kylie Minogue fronts TOUS Jewellery campaign

By Andrea Petrou on May 26th, 2010

Kylie.jpg

We’ve always believed that Kylie had something magic about her and it seems we were right.

However, this time we’re not talking about her fashion sense or amazing voice we’re actually refering to an ad for jewellery brand TOUS, where the pint sized popstar plays the role of the sexy magician performing in a Paris theatre.

The campaign for the company’s SS2010 collection also see Kyles’ posing alongside rabbits, saws, top hats, cards and silks mixed with the new TOUS collection.

We have a feeling this campaign may do the trick in encouraging us to buy, we’ve even got our credit cards at the ready.

Claudia Schiffer names her baby girl

By Andrea Petrou on May 26th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Thumbnail image for Claudia Schiffer YSL.jpg

Last week we bought you the news that Claudia Schiffer had given birth to a baby girl. The
supermodel gave birth to her daughter on May 14 at London’s Portland Hospital, but at the time of the news the couple had no released a name.

However the model and her film producer husband Matthew Vaughn have since announced their choice of name, which as we expected by looking at their other children’s names of Jasper and Clementine, wasn’t going to be “traditional”.

The couple’s publicist told Welt Online: “Her name is Cosima Violet Vaughn Drummond. Both mother and child are fine.”

We’re not sure what to make of this name, but we know one thing is for sure, she’ll probably be the only little girl at school with it. Tell us what you think of the name by leaving your comments below.

Sarah Jessica Parker to help honour Alexander McQueen at the CFDA fashion awards

By Andrea Petrou on May 26th, 2010

Sarah Jessica Parker brightens up the event in yellow-400.jpg

It seems Sarah Jessica Parker isn’t content with being one of the world’s most fashionable ladies on and off the SATC screen. The fashionista, style icon and woman we blame for some of the wacky outfits in our wardrobes, has decided to take her fashion fame that step further.

According to WWD SJP is set to present the CFDA Board of Directors’ Special Tribute Award to the late Alexander McQueen, with whom she shared a fashion moment when they showed up in matching tartans to the Costume Institute benefit in 2006.

The CDFA’s are one of America’s hottest fashion awards, which take place of 7 June at New York’s Rockefeller Centre and are tipped to be hosted by the Olsen twins.

It is also predicted that Caroline Kennedy will bestow Vogue fashion director Tonne Goodman with the Eleanor Lambert Award. We can’t wait to see what SJP wears to present such an important award.
