Scarlett Johansson, Lea Michele and Catherine Zeta-Jones turn up for the Tony Awards

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2010

While we were crowding round the BBQs, eating burgers and cheering on England, the US stars had more demure events to be thinking about.

This weekend saw the 61st annual Tony Awards, which celebrate the best in American theatre and although they are not as well known as perhaps the Oscars or Baftas, A-class celebrities still strutted their fashion stuff on the red carpet.

Catherine Zeta-Jones accepted her best actress in a musical award for her Broadway debut in the musical A Little Night Music, in a baby blue strapless organza gown complete with beading, while Lucy Liu looked went for cute and girly in a pink frilled Marchesa frock.

Scarlett Johansson went for celeb favourite Elie Saab opting for a black beaded gown, which she showed off when she went to pick up her award for Best Performance in a Play by a Featured actress while Paula Abdul opted for frills and fishtail in a Tony Ward Couture frock.

However, not everyone went for beaded and bare skin. Naomi Watts took a risk in a nude suit style fock with long sleeves by RM by Roland Mouret gown that kept bare skin at a minimum while Cate Blanchett took an even bigger one in a silver Armani Prive suit.
Thankfully we think the risk paid off.

We also think a special fashion mention goes out to Helen Mirren who, like Scarlett, opted for a black frock to wow on the night, and Glee star Lea Michele who shone in sunshine yellow.

Tell us who your best dressed of the night was by leaving your comments below.

Spotted: Cheryl Cole, Michelle Keegan and Katy Perry

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2010

This weekend saw the first England World Cup game against the US, and like many of us it seemed celebrities chose to stay at home and watch it rather than hit the town.

The London scene seemed very quiet, and apart from Coronation Street star Michelle Keegan, who was spotted coming out of the Cafe De Paris night club in a short white dress complete with long train, we didn’t spot too many celebs in the capital this weekend.

Therefore we decided to extend our celebrity search across the UK, and we were pleased we did. In Birmingham we spotted Cheryl Cole/Tweedy wearing light grey skinny jeans, a mesh scoop neck top and heavy jewellery, on her way into the first X-Factor 2010 auditions. She was joined by Konnie Huq – the new presenter of ITV2′s The Xtra Factor – who opted for a simple black and white polka dot dress, and Natalie Imbruglia who wowed in a purple shift dress.

Over in Liverpool WAG Alex Curran popped to the hairdressers wearing a flowing white maxi dress and Gladiator shoes, before the first England World Cup, while Hollyoaks stars Melissa Walton and Gemma Merna partied the night away in a bar.

However, our best dressed award of the weekend has got to go to Katy Perry who sported a cute PVC dress depicting half the UK and USA flags for the World Cup Live ITV with James Corden. Wow.

Get the look: WAG World Cup Fashion

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

The World Cup kicks off today, and tomorrow we’ll be watching England’s first game.

However, as we’ve said before not not huge fans of the great game so we’ve been trying to find a fun way to get into the spirit and that’s of course through fashion.

But this time we’re not talking about the huge range of World Cup fashion out there. We’re instead talking about WAG’s style.

It’s no secret that the wives and girlfriends of our footie stars spend a fortune on their clothing, especially the likes of Coleen Rooney and fashionista Victoria Beckham, and we know many of you (and us too) can’t afford to splash out.

So we decided to scour the highstreet and find some cheaper alternatives to some outfits worn by Christine Bleakley, Abi Clancy, Alex Curren and of course Victoria and Coleen.

View our gallery for some WAG World Cup fashion looks.

Fashion Face Off

World Cup fashion face-off: USA vs UK fashions

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Louis and Naomi.jpg

I don’t claim to be very much of a football fan, but in these times you can’t avoid it. It’s literally everywhere! Luckily, the World Cup has managed to find a way into my life in a perfectly acceptable way – in the way of fashion.

The fashion website very.co.uk are having a fashion face off for the World Cup games – putting together styles inspired by the World Cup countries and seeing who comes out as the most popular one. Up first is England vs USA with the British look embodying Kate Moss at Glastonbury with a summer parka, wellies, slouchy denim shorts and tees, and of course lots of lovely accessories including some fabulous retro sunglasses.

The USA look is inspired by the ‘preppy college girl’, which is actually quite nice too and has little touches like oversized check shirts, cut-off denim jeans and hoodies, as well as sports style inspired footwear like Converse.

In the style stakes though, I’ve stuck with supporting the home team! I think the British look is far better than the USA one but thinking about the upcoming countries that will be featured – Spain, Argentina and South Africa – I think we might have some trouble competing against flamenco inspired dresses and safari chic in the later rounds.

You can vote now at the very.co.uk site for your favourite countries’ style and you might even be inspired to try out a completely new look – far better than watching the football.

And look out next week for our World Cup inspired fashion galleries.

Alexa Chung becomes the face of Lacoste’s new fragrance

By Andrea Petrou on June 11th, 2010

Alexa Chung

Alexa Chung is no stranger to ad campaigns. However, she must be exceptionally proud of her latest signing.

The star has been announced as the new face of preppy brand Lacoste’s new fragrance. But what makes this extra special is that it’s the first time the brand has used a female celebrity face.

The perfume is set to launch in January next year and we can imagine the ads are going to be great. You only have to look at Alexa’s shoots for Pepe to know that.

Big Brother 11 Fashion Face off: Who wins your style vote so far?

By Andrea Petrou on June 10th, 2010

It may be a little bit too early to start talking about the Big Brother housemate’s style but, there’s nothing like a little bit of forward fashion thinking. So we’ve decide to have a little bit of a prediction about what each of the girls will be showcasing based on their entrance outfits and personality so far. And of course we want to get you involved.

Read our predictions, view the gallery and then vote below and tell us who you think will be the most stylish in the house.

Rachael Williams: The Beyonce look-a-like made her entrance into the Big Brother house in a white dress, which didn’t leave much to the imagination. We understand that she’s channelling the singer’s look but really Rachael sometimes it’s nice to keep that booty covered.

Our prediction: The vain wannabe will be flashing more than a smile with her wardrobe. Expect lots of leg and lots of erm, booty.

Corin Forshaw: Just when we thought Jordan had stepped away from the spotlight, a trashy version of the former page three girl makes her Big Brother entrance. Dressed in a market style frock, which she had to keep pulling up to cover her assets the contestant fitted Davina’s Katie Cut-price description.

Our prediction: Let’s put it this way. Men won’t be buying copies of The Sun for the page 3 page. We expect lots of blurred images before the 9pm watershed.

Shabby Katchadourian: We hate to state the obvious, but Shabby by name – Shabby by nature. This mess of conforming to the non conforming type should carefully consider her next fashion move. However, one good thing about this lady is that we won’t have to worry about being put off our dinner with over exposure of flesh.

Our prediction: More “look at me I’m different” clothing.

Ife Kuku: She may not look like Beyonce, but Ife gives Rachael a run for her money with her skimpy clothing.

Our prediction: Be prepared for a “who can show the most” competition between her and her bootilicious rival.

Sunshine Martyn: She may have an usual name but this contestant doesn’t look like she’ll wow in the fashion stakes. Her dress was standard and her attempt at being different was a mini top-hat headpiece, which happens to be stocked in every highstreet store at the moment.

Our prediction: This medical student’s attire may need a huge fashion injection.

Caoimhe: She ditched the frocks and made her entrance in tight Tomb Raider attire with a funky twist, making her one of our favourite fashionable housemates.

Our prediction: More funky fashion fun.

Josie: This country girl next door didn’t offend with her maxi dress. However, nor did she wow.

Our prediction: More jeans, tops and perhaps a few dresses.

Meet the Big Brother 11 contestants

By Andrea Petrou on June 10th, 2010

Last night the final Big Brother kicked off, and what a start to the programme it was.

Instead of already announcing the contestants, Big Brother decided that this year it would pick them on live telly. From 80 people 13 lucky people were called out one by one to go into the themed house. And we have to say that judging by some of the characters we think this years going to be wackier and bitchier than ever.

Not only is there Rachael White who looks like Beyonce, but Corin who professes to look like Katie Price (or Katie Cut-Price as Davina put it). Then there’s Caoimhe, Ife and currently our favourite Josie, they may not look like any celelbs but we think they may ruffle Rachael’s feathers.

Sunshine Martyn, a student doctor and Shabby Katchadourian a “squatter”complete the round-up for the girls.

However, it doesn’t seem the boys are any tamer this year. There’s Dave Vaughn a monk, although we’re not quite sure what he actually practices, Govan who can’t stop talking and Ben, a posh writer who frankly looked disgusted everytime a contestant entered.

We did get a little excited when we met joiner Nathan Dunn and of course Beckham look-a-like John James who are bound to get some of the girls in the house. And we think ex Army guy Steve Gill will also go far.

However, Mario Mugan, who was chosen at random and has the task of being “a mole” is going to have a hard time.

Tell us who you think will win BB11 by leaving your comments in the box below.

Get the Look: Elle Macpherson

By Andrea Petrou on June 9th, 2010

Elle Macpherson was one of the original supermodels, and if we’re honest we’re still very envious of those long legs.

However, one thing we can’t take away from Elle is her incredible fashion sense. Even when she’s just taking her children to school the yummy mummy looks stunning opting for skinny jeans or leggings and giving them a classic twist with a staple blazer or plain tee.

She’s also not afraid to show off those pins opting at other times for boho style shirt dresses or something that bit more classy for a night out.

And with the model set to present the next season of Britian’s Next Top Model, which will be hitting Living TV very soon we’re sure we’ll be seeing a lot more of her style.

Until then we’ve put together a few looks, which we think will let you channel Elle’s look at highstreet prices.

Spotted in London: Kylie Minogue, Davina McCall and Victoria Beckham

By Andrea Petrou on June 9th, 2010

London saw a huge range of A-listers descending last night for the Glamour Women of the Year Awards, however, that’s not the only reason why some hit the town yesterday and this morning.

Last night Victoria Beckham caused a great commotion after stepping out of the Metropolitan Hotel where she was staying. The fashionista looked chic and stylish (we wouldn’t expect anything less) in a black tafetta longsleeved frock and trademark skyscraper heels.

Earlier in the day we spotted Kylie Minogue looking cool and casual in jeans and ballet pumps. She finished off the look with a statement bag.

Katherine Heigl also went for jeans when she stepped out of her hotel yesterday, while Fearne Coton opted for denim on her way into work this morning looking a little bit dishevelled – we can only imagine that this was due too a little bit too much champagne last night at the Glamour Awards.

We just hope Davina McCall’s blue shoes weren’t too bright for Ms Cotton when she interviewed her this morning ahead of the last series of Big Brother, which launches tonight.

Trend alert: Or top 5 floral skirts

By Andrea Petrou on June 9th, 2010

We know it’s been a bit damp this week and the rain hasn’t been helping us to get into the Summer fashion mood. However, we hope that the sun will be rearing it’s head very shortly.

In preparation for this we’ve decided that today’s trend is the summer skirt and a floral one at that. If you’re a regular reader of ShinyStyle then you’ll know florals are a must have for this year.

They were showcased at Burberry‘s and Chanel‘s SS2010 shows and this trend has also been spotted on the likes of Sarah Jessica Parker and Alexa Chung. Add to that florals are all over the highstreet and you’ve got yourself a summer winner.

Team up your summer skirt with flats for a fashionable festival look or with sky high heels for a night out. And remember, because you have such a busy floral print on the bottom you’ll only need a simple and plain top. We’re thinking a vest, body or tee.

View our gallery for our top 5 floral skirts.

Gallery: Cheryl Cole, Nicole Richie and Fearne Cotton at the Glamour Women of The Year Awars

By Andrea Petrou on June 9th, 2010

It was another star studded night (honestly we don’t know celebs do it) as A-listers hit London’s Berkeley Square Gardens for the Glamour Women of The Year awards.

Abigail Clancy made the most of her footie boyfriend’s absence, turning up to the event in a stunning blue jumpsuit with piping detail around the plunging neckline. She completed the look with a skinny belt. Cheryl Cole also wowed in a soft pink beaded short dress complete with a little train while Radio Personality of the Year – Fearne Cotton – went for big and billowing with a red chiffon short dress.

She was joined in this trend by pregnant Rachel Stevens and Lily Allen who channelled this look with a black dress complete with big sleeves.

UK TV Actress of the Year, Billie Piper, kept it simple in a gorgeous black long dress and Florence Welch, who won band of the year, went for a striking LBD.

Nicole Richie who was Entrepreneur of the Year also wins our best dressed award with her nude long fistail frock.

See our gallery for the best dressed of the night.

Judge issues a bench warrant for Lindsay Lohan’s arrest

By Andrea Petrou on June 9th, 2010

Thumbnail image for Lindsay Lohan

Oh dear it seems Lindsay Lohan‘s year is getting worse.

Yesterday a judge issued a bench warrant for the troubled star’s arrest following a Los Angeles Supreme Court judge’s ruling the actress has violated the terms of her May bail.

Judge Marsha Revel, who insisted Lohan wear an alcohol monitoring ankle bracelet, ordered the actress’ attorney into court on yesterday after learning the device started flashing during a night out.

It is thought LiLo had broken the court order banning her from drugs and alcohol, after the booze bracelet began flashing at pop star Katy Perry’s MTV Movie Awards afterparty in Los Angeles and turned heads when the flashing beeper, which alerts authorities if she breaks her drinking ban, started to flash.

Lohan was ordered to wear the SCRAM bracelet last month after missing probation hearings related to drug and drink-driving arrests.

Judge Marsha Revel was taking no chances when she ordered Los Angeles prosecutors and Lohan’s attorney Shawn Chapman Holley into court in Beverly Hills on Tuesday afternoon.
Following the emergency hearing, Revel ruled the alarm constitutes a violation of Lohan’s bail agreement.

A new bail has been set at $200,000 (£133,300). A status hearing is still scheduled for 6 July. It’s the second arrest warrant issued for Lohan in the past month – she tested Revel’s patience when she failed to show up in court for a scheduled hearing on 20 May claiming her passport was stolen at the Cannes Film Festival and she was stranded in Europe.
That warrant was rescinded after an aide to the star put down $10,000 (£6,600) towards her $100,000 (£66,600) bail.
