Gallery: Celebrities such as Amy Winehouse and Miley Cyrus out and about in London

By Andrea Petrou on June 3rd, 2010

Last night seemed to be a bit of a party evening for a few celebs with many taking advantage of the British weather and hitting the town.

First on the London list was Amy Winehouse who resurfaced with a vengance. She started off the night in the Soho Jazz club looking fresh faced at cute in a gingham playsuit and ballet pumps. However her sober night didn’t last as she stumbled into Balans restaurant at three in the morning wearing a black dress and looking slightly worse for wear. According to reports she stayed at the diner until 5 (well it beats a kebab on the way home).

Looking far more sober, but also enjoying a meal was Lara Stone who stepped out with new hubby David Walliams for a bite to eat at Nobu. As always the model looked stunning in a simple white shift dress, which was a perfect choice for a summer night.

Next up was Pussy Cat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, who also opted for a cute strapless dress to party the night away in London’s clubs.

However Miley Cyrus went for a different outing. The singer dressed in shorts, t-shirt and on-trend peep toe ankle boots left her hotel in Nottinghill for a night out before returning half an hour later. What a waste of an outfit Miley.

Gallery: Get Cheryl Cole’s casual look

By Andrea Petrou on June 3rd, 2010

Cheryl Cole may have had a host of up and downs this past year but her personal problems have never detracted from her amazing style.

The popstar and X-Factor judge has never had a “bad style” day and whether she’s performing in Roberto Cavalli gowns or chilling out she always looks right on-trend.

The one thing we really like about Cheryl’s style though is that when she does casual, she does it in a way we can all follow, going for skinny jeans, biker jackets, chunky cardigans worn over frilly tees and of course her hats and sunnies.

We’ve therefore decided to dedicate a gallery today to getting Cheryl’s look at highstreet prices. Have a look and let us know which one is your favourite item.

Lady Gaga claims her hats keep the devil away

By Andrea Petrou on June 3rd, 2010

Thumbnail image for Lady Gaga Hat

We thought Lady Gaga‘s penchant for headpieces was part of her funky fashion. However, it seems it goes a little bit further than that.

In a Q&A event with her fans at showstudio.com the lady, who is nearly always seen in headpieces usually from milliner Philip Treacy, said her hat choices protect her from evil.

“The more interesting and outrageous the better,” she said.

“For me, it keeps the devil away.

“I always like when I have a hat that’s big enough to keep people away at pretentious parties, it’s protection.’”

Well we suppose it’s a funky take from a tin foil hat.

Fashion Crush: Bikini from H! by Henry Holland’s swimwear range

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

Henry Holland swimwear.jpg />

We’ve covered a range of bikini stories today on ShinyStyle but we felt that this bikini from H! by Henry Holland‘s high-summer swimwear range deserved to be labelled as our Fashion Crush of the day.

This gorgeous on-trend floral bikini, is a designer steal coming in at £10 for the top and £10 for the bottoms and looks fantastic teamed up with this leather waistcoat, which again comes in at a very reasonable £35. We think it’ll look amazing teamed up with some denim shorts and flip-flops too.

And it’s also modelled by Fiona Kennedy who entered a competition to have her face included in a one-off print designed by Henry Holland and used on a handbag and scarf in the Autumn H! by Henry Holland range. Henry was so impressed with Fiona’s entry he decided to approach her to model his high summer swim range.

Designer chic modelled by a real person, can it get any better than this?

Gallery: Celebrities mark the closing of Marina Abramovic’s ‘The Artist is Present’ show at MOMA in New York.

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

It was another night of celebrity style as A-listers stepped out to mark the closing of Marina Abramovic’s ‘The Artist is Present’ show at MOMA in New York.

But it was Courtney Love who really stole the fashion limelight at the event hosted by Givenchy. The troubled star turned up looking young and glamorous in a sheer dress by the designer.

Other noted celebrities included Christina Ricci and Liv Tyler who channelled the designer’s latest collection, while Maricarla Boscono took the fashion trend to the next level turning up in a sheer bra top. Bjork also lit up the evening in a gold shiny dress, which wouldn’t have looked out of place on Lady Gaga, while Joan Smalls carried on the sheer look with a white, very seethrough frock.

See our gallery for all the celebrity fashion of the night.

Trend Alert: Beach Bikinis

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

The sun is shining and many of you are probably counting down to that summer beach holiday.

And with the spring/summer season fashion in full flow there’s a huge amount of swimwear out there to suit all kind of shapes.

Many stores such as Miss Selfridge and Oasis also offer separates for ladies with smaller or bigger upper halves and Ultimo is also a great place for those out there that have been blessed with bigger busts. On the other end of the spectrum some highstreet stores also cater for sporty type figures offering padded cups and different tops to really enhance what we’ve been blessed with.

And there’s also great alternatives for those who don’t feel comfortable in flashing their tum or who aren’t too keen on wearing briefs.

Over the next few weeks we’ll be bringing you different ranges for different figures and tastes but to kick start the swimwear style we’ve put together a gallery of on-trend bikinis so you can really make an entrance to the pool or the beach.

Like it or not the World Cup is very nearly upon us. And if you thought you could escape it by sticking your head in the fashion mag sand then think again because footie fever has hit even the biggest designers. One example is Louis Vuitton who has created an 18ct gold travel case to hold the World Cup trophy until it is handed to the winning team in July.

Katharine Hamnet launches eco-friendly beachwear

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

KH Save the sea.jpg

We’ve taken on a little bit of an eco fashion theme this week so we thought it only right to continue this with our next story. This time it’s British and well known eco designer Katharine Hamnet, which is doing her bit for the environment. She’s teamed up with online boutique Yoox.com to create a range of eco-friendly beachwear.

Save The Sea is an ethical and environmental luxury beach collection inspired by the golden age of glamour, named after 1950s bomb shells. As a tribute to the sea, the rigorously-sourced collection is composed of 14 styles, 50s-style one-piece swimsuits, bikinis, cover-ups, swimsuits for him and also beach towels as well as handmade oversized fabric beach totes, in different colours, playful polka-dot and stripes patterns, all with the slogan “Save the Sea”. All items are made with sustainable fabrics, organic cotton and with a minimal amount of recyclable polyester.

Katharine Hamnett siad: “I have called this collection Save The Sea as the sea that we all love, is dying due to the impact of human activities such as oil spill, sewage dumping, industrial pollution, agriculture chemical fertilizers and pesticide run-off, lack of fish stock management, over fishing, pirate fishing which can possibly lead to the extinction of species including the blue fin tuna.

“Acidification of the sea due to over absorption of carbon dioxide which can lead to the extinction of the corals, death of the sea, and ultimately the extinction of life on earth. It’s important as consumers and voters that we all know the facts, so that we can do what is needed to save it. Take action you can make the difference.”

A percentage of the retail price of the collection goes to help farmers in West Africa through the “Fashioning a Better Future” project set up by Katharine Hamnett and run by the Organic Exchange, a registered U.S. charity.

Selfridges launches eco-bag range

By Andrea Petrou on June 2nd, 2010

Bottlebags.jpg

Yesterday we bought you the news that Debenhams had launched a range of designer eco friendly bags for life, and now it seems Selfridges is doing the same.
The high end department store has announced a range of bags in aid of UK charity Bottletop, which raises money to help fight poverty in the developing world.

The bags, which are the creation of Cameron Saul (whose father Roger Saul founded Mulberry), are made from recycled bottle tops salvaged from waste. These are then spun into high-fashion handbags by local communities.

‘I wanted Bottletop to be a cool brand. We’d sell sexy, high-quality products with a feel good factor, not things people brought because they felt they had to’, said Saul.

The new limited collection comes in five styles; the ‘Luciana’ clutch, the ‘Claudio’ luggage bag, the ‘Paris’ shoulder bag, the ‘Comprido’ clutch, and the ‘Bellani’ shoulder bag, each with the coveted blue ‘Bottletop’ logo.

You can get your hands on them at Selfridges now.

Gallery: Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball outfits

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Lady Gaga made many of her “little monsters” bank weekends by returning to the UK and performing in Nottingham, Birmingham and London as part of her rescheduled Monster Ball tour.

The star made an emotional appearance in Nottingham after dedicating a song to her sick granddad. Introducing Brown Eyes, she told the Nottingham crowd: “My grandpa is really, really ill.

“It’s really upsetting me. My grandpa calls me Loopy because he doesn’t understand why I am the way I am.”

However, the star didn’t disappoint in the outfit stakes wearing a range of PVC knickers and bras, leaopard print leotards and white structured dresses as well as a huge number of her trademark headpieces.

We managed to grab a few of the tour piccs showcasing her outfits. Take a look at the gallery and let us know what you think by leaving your comments below.

Fashion Crush: River Island Sex and The City dress

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Pink Dress River Island-400.jpg

We went Sex and the City 2 mad last week giving you get the looks for each of the four characters, before ending it all with a SATC2 fashion face off (if you haven’t already voted click here).

However, if we’re honest we don’t really want to stop with all the fun SATC2 fashion just yet so we thought we’d dedicate our fashion crush post to this cute little pink dress.

The short frock from River Island channels Charlotte’s structured SATC 2 style but is bought right on-trend with an asymmetric styling twist.

Team up with a blingtastic ring and black patent skyscraper heels for that perfect Charlotte look. And the £40 price tag isn’t bad either.

ShinyStyle Watch: Madonna’s MDG sunglasses ad campaign

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Madonna’s campaigns with D&G have become well known throughout the fashion industry and if you’re a regular reader you would have seen our previews of the AW2010 ads featuring the star.

A few months ago we bought you the news that Madge had gone a step further with the Italian designer brand and collaborated with it to co-design an eyewear range. And we’ve been lucky enough to get hold of the ad video, which of course she stars in, for you to check out.

The singer poses with, and gets a little bit saucy, with male model, Tyson Ballou, for the MDG logo sunglasses vid shot by Steven Klein. We doubt this is the last we’ll be seeing of the star.

Mango launches iPhone app

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Mango app.jpg

We’ve gone a tiny bit techie here at ShinyStyle recently, telling you about of a range of beauty and fashion iPhone apps which help you save time and money. And although we vowed to leave these over to the girls at ShinyShiny there’s always that one that we can’t resist telling you about. This time it’s Mango.

The Spanish highstreet store has launched a free app, which gives users the latest company news and stay informed of the latest promotions, while being given exclusive discounts.

You can also browse the virtual store assortment and buy clothing quickly, simply and safely. The Mix & Match section simulates a virtual Interactive fitting room where users can upload their own photos and dress up in Mango clothes, while snother section, Favourites, allows users to save their favourite garments in a virtual shopping basket shared with the mango.com website or save a look to purchase it later in store.

There’s also a directory and a store locator, which uses your current location to tell you where the closest Mango store is in case you can’t wait for that top or dress.

Karl Lagerfeld to be given a French Commander of the Legion of Honour award

By Andrea Petrou on June 1st, 2010

Thumbnail image for Karl.jpg

Karl Lagerfeld has become one of the most popular designers of our time, with many of us wishing we could afford some of the fabulous pieces he’s bought into the fashion world for Chanel.

So we’re delighted to hear that he’s finally going to be recognised for all his hard work.

According to WWD this Thursday French President Nicolas Sarkozy is to anoint Karl with a Commander of the Legion of Honour. This is France’s highest civilian award and will be presented in a ceremony at the Elysée presidential palace.

The honour comes with a silver medal suspended from the collar from a red ribbon and we really hope Karl uses it as in inspiration for a few of his upcoming collections.
