Gallery: Celebrity fashion at Glorious Goodwood

By Shiny writer on July 30th, 2010

Glorious Goodwood is well underway and yesterday was a great day for celebrities as they attended Ladies Day at the event held in Cheltenham.

First on the scene was Sophie Ellis-Bextor who wowed us in a sheer tea length white dress complete with a black high-waisted belt. She was joined by Sarah Dewey, who opted for a floral dress, complete with that race day must have, a fascinator, and Beverley Knight who rocked it in a leopard print dress. And Danielle Eisenberg also made an appearance in a red shift dress, which if we’re honest, made her look slightly older than her years but there were no mishaps for Jodie Kidd, who as usual looked stunning in a striped pencil skirt, black cardi and trilby hat.

Earlier on in the week Elizabeth Hurley also made a grand entrance wearing a white shift dress, which she of course accessorised with a floral fascinator.

Scroll down to see all the celebrity fashion from the events.

How to look celebrity perfect after a long-haul flight

By Shiny writer on July 30th, 2010

Rihanna goes for leggings and a whilte vest teamed up with flat boots for her arrival at Heathrow-400.jpg

A flight to Australia is about as long-haul as you can get from the UK, and may seem daunting if it’s your first 24 hour flight. With restrictions still in place on hand luggage, it is vital you think ahead to make your flight as enjoyable as possible. I spoke to Travelmood, which pecialises in flights to Australia, to give you lucky long haul travellers tips for surviving the flight and find out how you can look refreshed at the other end.

Choose a comfortable flying outfit…
Loose clothing is important, as you’re going to spend a lot of time sitting down. If you hope to sleep during the flight, consider putting a pair of jogging bottoms into your handbag. You can change into these in the plane toilet and change back into your smart denims just before landing.

If travelling somewhere warm in winter, put a pair of flip-flops in your hand luggage to slip onto swollen feet when you step off the plane. Air-conditioning can be chilly on long-haul flight so wearing layers is a good way to adjust body temperature, and a pashmina provides instant warmth and style.

Slather on mosituriser
Pack a quality moisturiser in your hand luggage and reapply during the flight – as skin can get very dry during long-haul flights. Apply a moisturising lip balm and drink lots of water to keep hydrated.

Hand luggage essentials
An iPod full off new and favourite tunes, an interesting read and glossy magazines are all essentials for long haul entertainment, especially when travelling alone.

How to get much needed sleep
When traveling to a far flung destination try and sleep as much as you can on the flight. An eye mask, lightweight blanket and inflatable neck pillow are sleep essentials and earplugs can help block out the surrounding noise.

When you board the plane ask the flight attendants if there are any spare seats left …this could result in getting enough seats to lie down on. To get the best sleep, avoid caffeine and consider herbal sleeping tablets to calm flight nerves. A pair of warm socks will also help to keep you snug whilst you snooze.

What to avoid when flying…
Try and avoid heavy meals before and during the flight, its best to eat little and often. Fizzy drinks, caffeine and alcohol can all contribute to feeling groggy once you land…so if you can resist, avoid these too.

How to avoid jet lag
Jag-lag is a horrible and disorientating way to start your holiday; taking precautions to minimise it will lead to a happier start to your holiday.

As soon as you get on the plane adjust your watch to the time of your destination, so that you are eating and sleeping according to the hour on arrival. Once you get to your destination get a little exercise and try and stay awake until night time.

You can but only try…
Smile sweetly, be polite, complain about your bad circulation and flying nerves and see if you get a free upgrade!

Casual Friday: Top five must-have trainers

By Shiny writer on July 30th, 2010

Yay. It’s Friday and the weekend awaits. For many of you this will will mean chilling out at home, meeting up with friends, but most importantly the fact that you get to swap those work clothes and heels for jeans and trainers.

And some of you may already be doing that just now, with lots of companies giving their staff dress down Friday.

Over the years trainers have become a huge fashion statement moving from the gym into ever fashionista’s shoe collection. And of course companies, including DKNY and Chanel, have wised up to this creating stylish footwear that is perfect for the casual look without looking as though you’re heading off to exercise. This season it’s all about 80s Converse, pimped up plimsolls and blingtastic sneakers.

Here’s ShinyStyle’s highstreet top 5 for that weekend chillout or as a wellie alternative at festivals.

Spotted: Lily Allen, Fearne Cotton and Coco Summer work the vintage trend

By Shiny writer on July 30th, 2010

Yesterday was a day of vintage fashions as celebrities hit London town for a range of events.

Lily Allen started the trend with a cute 50s tea skirt and blouse on her way to the Matches store launch party, while Coco Summer turned up at the same event in this look with a floral blazer and red playsuit. However she was sporting a rather un-fetching black eye.

And it was also a day for fashion launches with Liam Gallagher turning up with his partner Nicole Appleton, who looked gorgeous in a red coat, for the launch of his Pretty Green pop-up shop in Carnaby street.

Across London Fearne Cotton continued the vintage look with a cute 80s style dress, which she bought bang into 2010 trend with her moccasins and of course, those socks and Ali Bastian also gave a nod to vintage with a 50s style floral frock for her appearance at GMTV.

However, not everyone followed the vintage look. The Saturdays singers instead went for a punk look, with Una Healey opting for a cropped tee, teeny skirt and zebra sandals for a night out at Mahiki. She was joined by fellow group member Mollie King who opted for a highwaisted skirt and gladiator sandals for her night out on the town.

Lara Stone sues French Playboy and we put together a gallery of some of her week

By Shiny writer on July 29th, 2010

Lara Stone is suing French Playboy, claiming it has published unauthorised pictures.
Our favourite model is furious that pictures taken by photographer Greg Lotus last year, have ended up on the pages of the magazine without her permission. However it is not known how the snaps, which include topless and full-frontal fashion images, made their way into the June/July issue.

Lara has now asked her lawyers to begin proceedings. She said in a statement: “It’s not the kind of publication I would ever choose to appear in. Playboy had no right to publish these unauthorised photographs. I feel I have no option but to take steps to protect my reputation.

We totally agree with Lara, she may not be adverse to appearing in the buff, doing so for a range of magazines in the past, but it’s wrong for Playboy to just steal these images.

We’ll keep you updated but in the meantime we’ve put together a gallery of some the photos that appeared in Playboy and some of the work Ms Stone should be proud of. Let us know what you think about this, and of her campaigns by leaving your comments below.

Trend alert: Top five tanning must haves

By Shiny writer on July 29th, 2010

My holiday tan is fading fast and leaving me for people who are out on a beach topping theirs up. And if you’re experiencing this too, you’ll know how depressing it is.

There are a few ways to get that holiday tan back, firstly you could take to the park and coax the sun out (although judging by today’s weather you’re more likely to get rain), top up on a sunbed (no I don’t recommend this), pay for another holiday, or do it yourself safely with fake tan.

If like me you are inclined to go for the latter then there’s hundreds of fake tanning products on the market with everyone from Primark to St Tropez offering these.

And, if you pick the right ones then you’ll avoid those tell tale streaks, which have always been associated with these. I’ve picked out my top five tanning must-haves to help you top up or give you a head start before you go.

Spotted: Fearne Cotton, Jordan, Jessica Biel and Audrina Patridge

By Shiny writer on July 29th, 2010

It was an A-list celebrity day and night yesterday as stars including Jessica Biel and Audrina Patridge hit London town.

Jessica turned up at the Radio One offices in the same satin wrap dress she was spotted wearing the night before, while Fearne Cotton, who was spotted in the same location, looked stunning in a rock tee, boots and cute shorts. Jessica was later snapped looking tired and unkept as she walked through Soho in leggings and a white top.

However, at least Jessica had the decency to wear some clothes, unlike Ms Katie Price, who typically chose to bare almost all at her Paradise book signing in Oxford Street. Although, we have to thank her for giving us a glimpse of those nicely toned gentleman beside her.

Other celebrities that kept their clothes firmly on last night included Diana Vickers, who opted for a polka dot sheet top, and black skirt while performing at the iTunes Festival and Christine Bleakly who was apparently trying to hide from the paps. We hate to tell you this Christine but if you want to avoid attention a bright red dress is not going to help, no matter how nice it is.

Gallery: Dannii Minogue 1990 – 2010

By Shiny writer on July 28th, 2010

It’s been a whirlwind couple of years for Dannii Minogue.

The singer, model, dress designer and now yummy mummy started off her career as a singer many moons ago in the shadow of her sister Kylie, she also got a starring role in Home and Away. However, she didn’t do as well as sibling. And it remained the same for a long time. However, after appearing as a judge on the 2007 X-Factor her status began to change.

Yes she was still criticised, in 2007 for not having a personality and then in the 2008 edition of X-Factor for being “cold” and not showing any emotion (at the time Dannii put this down to being depressed about her sister’s fight against cancer and botox), however in 2009 she turned things around.

Her sparkle came back, leading her to become a firm favourite as the nation’s sweetheart (Cheryl Cole still holds the crown) and her fantastic dress sense earned her a place as one of the UK’s most fashionable females, which in turn led to a modelling stint with Marks and Spencer and a fashion range.

However, and we’re sure Dannii would agree, the best time for her was the birth of her gorgeous little boy Ethan earlier this month with boyfriend Kris Smith.

We look at Dannii’s transformation throughout her career.

Get the look: Mollie King

By Shiny writer on July 28th, 2010

The Saturdays girls are rarely out of the spotlight with many of the group being snapped on a regular night out.

Although all of them have great dress sense, the one that stands out to me is Mollie King.

The starlet never seems to put a fashion foot wrong, opting for a style that is often casual, yet has little twists, such as highwaisted shorts, high shoes and accessories, give her look a smart tone too.

However, she also plays the dress down look well too, pairing casual tops with on trend denim shorts or teaming up a nautical frock with a denim shirt.

Here’s how to get her look.

Trend Alert: Grecian style dresses

By Shiny writer on July 28th, 2010

Grecian dresses are hot this year, making a huge impression on the highstreet and also on the red carpet with many celebs opting for this style to stand out.

Last night Jessica Biel was one such celebrity who opted for this style, stepping out in a gorgeous red maxi frock. However, there are hundreds of styles to chose from when in comes to this trend, with short, strapless and asymmetric making an appearance on clothes rails everywhere.

What makes this style so popular is that the drapes in the fabric make it perfect for any body type, helping you hide that holiday tum or showing off those curves.
Here’s ShinyStyle’s pick of the top five on the highstreet.

Gallery: Celebs hit London for the A-Team premier and the Finale party for ‘The Hills

By Shiny writer on July 28th, 2010

Jessica Biel, Eliza Dolittle and Audrina Patridge stepped out in London last night showing off their gorgeous frocks at a range of events.

Jessica landed in London to walk the red carpet for the A-Team premier looking stunning in a long red Grecian boatneck dress complete with a black sash. She later changed into a floral knee-length dress for the after party.

Also on the red carpet was Linzi Stoppard who too opted for a Grecian style short dress in on-trend purple, while Eliza Dolittle went for a bodycon skirt and crop top get-up, which she teamed up with a pair of Vivienne Westwood boots.

She later turned up at the Finale party for ‘The Hills‘ at the Haymarket Hotel in the same outfit, where she was joined by Melanie Slade who opted for a floral frock for the event, and Audrina Patridge who looked gorgeous in a teeny tiny white dress and sandals.

Trend Alert: Top 5 celebrity style gym must-haves

By Shiny writer on July 27th, 2010

Earlier today, I told you about my trials and tribulations with gym motivation and gave those of you who have the same problem some celebrity inspiration.

However, once that motivation comes there’s another problem and that’s what to wear on that treadmill or cross-trainer. A few decades ago and it would have been simple to stroll into the gym in creased trackie bottoms, a long tee and trainers, which looked as though they’d followed Forest Gump around the world.

However, with exercise now becoming a “fashionable” part of life, plus it’s celeb following, this has now changed. Celebrities have been snapped in a range of gym outfits from the sensible sports leggings to more stylish get ups such as printed tees, designer trackie bottoms and of course bang up-to-date bright trainers.

So I’ve decided it’s time to ditch that traditional sportswear and give my fellow buddies some celebrity style gym fashion. It may not be the most practical, but at least you’ll look like a fashionista when you’re panting along that treadmill.

By Shiny writer on July 27th, 2010

Ah the gym. If, like me, you’re heading there in a bid to fight off that post-holiday bulge, or just getting into shape for your upcoming holiday, you’ll know that actually motivating yourself to go can be hard.

The early morning promises give way to that extra hour in bed, while that after work session is replaced with a pint or glass of wine.

However, I’ve decided to take some inspiration from those toned celebs who are always snapped going in and out of the gym, annoyingly without a hair out of place and a face that’s clear rather than bright red in a bid to actually get myself onto the cross trainer.

Serial gym goers include Twilight star Ashley Greene, who is often spotted going in or out of hers looking bang on sporty trend in leggings, a crop top and of course stylish trainers, while Hilary Duff opts for baggier trackie bottoms for what seems to be her daily workouts. And it also seems Miley Cyrus has taken a leaf of of Hilary’s sporty fashion book, opting for a similar style.

Across the pond Christine Bleakley also opts for the sporty leggings look, with that ultimate sport outfit accessory, the bottle of water.

Spotted: Katie Price, Preeya Kalidas and Rochelle Wiseman

By Shiny writer on July 27th, 2010

As we’ve said before celebrities don’t need an excuse to party and it seems days of the week don’t matter either, with many taking to the streets of London for a night out and for press conferences (ok we suppose that counts as working).

First on the scene was Katie Price who turned up in a black leather jacker to steal the limelight support, her best friend and make-up artist Gary Cockerill for the launch of his new book From Coal Dust To Stardust.

Ex Eastender star Preeya Kallides was also out and about yesterday showing off her fashion sense in a cute floral frock, which she matched up with a black peep toe’s and black bag, while her fellow Eastender colleague Kara Tointon opted for an 80s midi frock at the Burn the Floor press launch. And once again Fearne Cotton wowed us in a monochrome maxi dress on the way to work.

However, one celebrity couple that most definitely weren’t working last night were Saturday singer Rochelle Wiseman and JLS frontman Marvin, who stepped out of the Mayfair hotel for a night on the town.

Gallery: Angelina Jolie’s “Salt” outfits

By Shiny writer on July 26th, 2010

Angelina Jolie hasn’t been in the limelight for a longtime but over the past month this has changed.

The starlet has been out and about promoting her new film “Salt” wowing us in her outfits as well as showing the world that despite rumours, her and Brad are still very much an item. At the LA Premier of the film Angie opted for a sparkly short black strapless number.

Posing alongside Mr Pitt, the actress showed off her new figure, which has filled out slightly since worrying pictures of her skinny frame appeared in the media a few months back.

She carried on her extraordinary fashion sense at the Comic Con event in a more casual black skirt, which she teamed up with an on-trend leather jacket.

She then opted for a similar black skirt with a satin pink boatneck top for a press call at the Russian premier of the film before changing into a red ballgown frock to walk the red carpet. We’re sure Brad was very impressed Ange.
