Paris Fashion Week highlights: McQueen
It was the show the fashion world had been waiting for, McQueen’s collection, without the brilliant designer himself.
Sarah Burton who took the reigns as creative director of the brand following the tragic death of McQueen, made her debut collection last night at the Parisian show with a gentle contradiciton to McQueen’s wild side.
Beautiful dresses with feathers and butterflies flowed down the runway, however Burton also gave a sympathetic nod to McQueen’s statement styles with narrow tailcoats and low-rise trousers, which followed the McQueen silhouette as well as the use of prints and ribbon embroideries, which were trademarks of the style of the last few years.
Giving a nod to her theme of decaying nature Burton also incorporated long, off-the-shoulder dresses in an abstract leaf print , a long white halter dress with a wide gold leaf belt and a gray shadow print at the hem into the collection.
We think the soft, yet striking collection is a great start of things to come from the young designer and friend or the late Lee Alexander McQueen.

Paris Fashion Week highlights: Chanel
By Emily Borrett.
When we think of Paris Fashion Week, the first designer that instantly comes to mind is Chanel, the timeless French fashion label that every girl covets and admires. Creative director Karl Lagerfeld always puts on a good show (recent memorable shows have featured a giant barn with models cheekily rolling in the hay, and last season, models in yeti-like furs stomping around a melting iceberg), so everyone was waiting with baited breath today for what they knew would be a spectacular show.
And yes, as you can see from the photos above, it was classic Chanel grandeur and flamboyance all the way. In typical Lagerfeld style, the floor space was decorated like a French garden complete with fountains, with what seemed like every supermodel ever working in the show. It was hard to believe that this was the ready-to-wear show and not couture, as the lines between the two became blurred in the beauty of the collection.
There was breathtaking detail in the clothes; tiny beaded embellishments that gave the collection’s box jackets an iridescent appearance, rich-looking classic tweeds in silvers and pale ice-cream colours, fringing and feathering, sheer lace midi-skirts and some of the most fantastic looking costume jewellery that I’ve probably ever seen. Any French woman would kill for this level of Parisian style.
Best show of Paris Fashion Week so far? In fact, best show in all of the past month’s fashion shows, full stop? Yeah, I think so..
Spotted in London this week: Elle MacPherson, Victoria Beckham and Kelis
By Emily Borrett.
Victoria Beckham arriving at Heathrow Airport
What with all this Paris Fashion Week love going round at the moment, the team at ShinyStyle have been neglecting one of our very most important duties – celebrity spotting in London. And it seems with all the press having a nice little holiday in gay Paris photographing catwalks and fashion’s finest, celebrities in London have been tentatively creeping out of their hidey-holes and going out and about their business amongst us little people.
Victoria Beckham was papped at Arrivals in Heathrow Airport on her way back from promoting her new jewellery line in Los Angeles, looking immaculate and showing off her neat figure in a grey tailored dress, nude skyscraping heels and her trademark satellite dish sunglasses. Weird, when I’m travelling I just wear trackies and my mum’s jumper. Another yummy mummy seen out and about was Elle “The Body” MacPherson, looking very much like the supermodel she is doing the school run with perfect wind-machine hair and designer glasses. That woman makes me SICK.
Meanwhile, mini-Cheryl and X Factor contestant Cher Lloyd was spotted doing a bit of light food shopping at the supermarket with some of her fellow contestants, looking eerily like Cheryl Cole herself with a big old glamourama beehive, Eiffel Tower sweatshirt and a scarlet quilted bag from Paul’s Boutique. Geri Halliwell was also spotted tripping in and out of wine bars in central London at night time looking fashionable (and a little bit pissed) in a leopardprint fur coat and stonking great heels.
Kelis performed in Sheperd’s Bush this week looking weird and fierce in a practically sprayed-on studded catsuit that made her look a bit like that liquid metal man from Terminator 2. You know the one I mean. Still looked cool though.
However, the top celebrity street style spot goes this week to Rihanna, who spent a day in Oxford Circus’ Topshop looking like an adorable dancehall version of Scarlett O’Hara in a sweet petticoat-style tulle skirt, men’s blazer and brown leather shoes with ankle socks. We love.
Collaboration between Kate Moss and Chloe Green for a new Topshop line?
By Emily Borrett.
Kate Moss’ line for British high street store Topshop has been much-loved since it was first launched in 2007, and has been a firm favourite ever since. So if you’re a Topshop lover and a fan of Miss Moss’ work you were probably pretty flabbergasted to hear rumours that the store’s owner, Sir Phillip Green, has decided to drop Kate with the plan of letting his own daughter, Chloe Green, have a go instead. A million London girls weep. But all is not lost – Chloe herself has said in an interview with the Sunday Telegraph that she is planning to work with Kate in the future.
Chloe said of the planned collaboration: “I saw Kate a few days ago and we talked about doing something together in the spring, collaborating on a collection. She’s really into vintage and I love clothes that are a bit modern, so I think it will be an interesting mix.” Exciting stuff.
So dry your eyes, girls, and don’t stress. Kate will be back..
Paris Fashion Week highlights: Chloe
By Emily Borrett.
Chloe has been one of the most-referenced labels when it’s come to the camel trend this Autumn/Winter with their offering of 70s silhouttes, fabrics in camels and gold and sexy Farrah Fawcett-style hair. Well, fast-forward a couple of decades and you’ve just about arrived at the French label’s Spring/Summer collection, which was very nineties and minimalist
The order of the day seemed to be clean, simple – but not prissy – shapes, the best of which was the funnel-necked princess coat which was sent down the runway in both scarlet and cream with some beautifully ladylike gold buttons, fashion’s favourite fastener at the moment.
While everyone’s favourite camel tones were not completely absent from the collection, in the form of buttery-looking leather crop tops and coffee-coloured pleated chiffon, like many designers at the moment Chloe seemed to be repping their love for good old-fashioned Parisian monochrome in cream and black separates. Having said that, the collection was far from generic, with fashion creative director Hannah MacGibbon really making it Chloe’s own. Curve accentuating pencil skirts and pleated chiffon were teamed up with boxy leather crop tops, deliciously girly sheer midi-skirts were worn with extremely mini miniskirts underneath and the classic high-waisted shorts style was vamped up with hella black leather.

Paris Fashion Week highlights: Stella McCartney
Beth Ditto took a front row seat to watch Stella McCartney’s SS2011 offerings and of course she was joined by Sir Paul who turned up to support his daughter.
As corny as it may sound, we think she did him proud with her latest collection.
Androgenous suits comprising of sharp blazers and tailored high waisted trousers in pale colours including blue and shimmering beige marched down the catwalk.
However, these weren’t the only delights with tuxedos for evening wear and polo shirts under suits.
Moving away from the mannish look McCartney also gave us a range of cute flowing dresses in bold colours, some with splits and some with pleats.
