The party season may be over, but that’s no reason to stop wearing our best, flirtiest dresses. And they don’t come much flirtier at the moment than the skater dress silhouette. It’s a shape that British designer Christopher Kane made famous last year with his ultra luxe designs for Versus, which showed at Milan Fashion Week (see above). In jewel-bright silks of red and bright blue, with nipped-in waists and hemlines that barely covered the models’ knickers, it was a disgustingly gorgeous look which was coveted by every fashionista worth their salt. And it’s still going to carry on going strong this year, as Erdem showed us their red and white lace dresses in the same shape for Fashion Week.
Whether or not you’re as leggy as a gazelle, this is a dress that can work well for you. It has the power to give curves where there are none, and accentuate curves even more when there are already plenty. If you’re tall and skinny, the dress will show off your pins to perfection, so keep your legs bare and glossy. However, if you’re smaller and curvier and not so confident about your legs, stick to a skater dress in a darker colour and team it with opaque tights and heels to flatter your legs nicely.
