Kate Moss’ rocking wedding line-up

By Andrea Petrou on March 21st, 2011

Kate Moss wants Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones to play at her upcoming wedding to Jamie Hince.

The British supermodel – who is tying the knot with rocker Jamie on July 2 – has reportedly drawn up a long list of acts she is keen to have perform at the couple’s nuptials in the hope of turning the event into a “mini Glastonbury” festival.

As well as Led Zeppelin and the Rolling Stones, the 37-year-old catwalk queen is also believed to be firing off calls to Duran Duran, The Clash, Kanye West, Primal Scream and close pal, Gossip frontwoman Beth Ditto.

An insider explained: “Kate is pulling out the big guns for her wedding. She has drawn up her dream list of artists she wants to play and is wasting no time asking them. A lot of them are her mates and shouldn’t have any problem doing a number.

“Her pals are dubbing it Kate’s mini-Glasto from the line-up she has in mind. It’s turning into a whole weekend celebration.”

However, while the pair are hoping to secure an A-list line-up of performers for their wedding, her huge guest list is proving problematic when it comes to finding a venue big enough to accommodate Kate, Jamie and their showbiz pals.

The source added to Britain’s The Sun newspaper: “After weeks of searching, there are options but Kate’s out-growing them with her guest list. She has been worrying about it as it’s getting so big and she’s reluctant to take anyone off.

“She wants to invite everyone who has been there for her since she was young.”

Mila Kunis was happy to go back to her normal body size after working on ‘Black Swan’.

By Andrea Petrou on March 21st, 2011

Mila Kunis was happy to go back to her normal body size after working on ‘Black Swan’.

The actress – who stars opposite Natalie Portman in the Darren Aronofsky – directed psychological thriller about a troubled ballet dancer – had to lose weight to become a typical dancer in the film, but was grateful to stop working out when it had wrapped.

She said: “To be able to pretend to be a ballerina for five months was great – but boy, was I happy to get out of that life.”

However the Hollywood beauty did enjoy the “challenge” of becoming so physically fit.

She said: “The best part was the challenge of it, the challenge of changing your body.”

Natalie – who won the Best Actress Oscar for the role earlier this year – worked out for eight hours a day to get as thin as she could to play a dancer.

Discussing it recently, she said: “You are constantly putting your body through extreme pain, so you get that understanding of the self-flagellation of a ballet dancer.”

Fergie stays fit by bringing her trainer on tour.

By Andrea Petrou on March 21st, 2011

Fergie stays fit by bringing her trainer on tour.

Although the Black Eye Peas singer performs punishing dance routines during her concerts she revealed she is so fanatical about keeping fit that she brings an exercise expert with her to ensure she stays in shape and even asks her dancers for tips.

She explained to People: “I brought my trainer on tour.

“I have the most amazing dancers. They do all these different things, a lot of squeezes, a lot of lunges. It’s building what you want in the derrière – working for it!”

Fergie’s obsession with exercise is not surprising as she has previously admitted she struggled to lose the 17lbs she gained for her role in the movie ‘Nine’ after filming finished.

She said: “I was eating my brains out. I ordered everything fried, full of fat and salty.

“It was a very gradual thing, getting back into it and finally letting a trainer train me. I didn’t want to be told what to do, and I wasn’t mentally ready to crack the whip.”

Katie Holmes develops her Holmes & Yang clothing line especially for “working moms

By Andrea Petrou on March 21st, 2011

Katie Holmes developed her Holmes & Yang clothing line especially for “working moms”.

The actress established the fashion range with her stylist Jeanne Yang and Jeanne revealed their mission when they started was to create a set of clothes that busy mothers can “depend on”.

She said: “Sometimes when life gets really busy you don’t want to have to think about what it is you’re going to wear and you just want to have certain pieces that you know you can just depend on – what are those pieces? – and so that was kind of our challenge.

“Both of us are working moms, so we’re pretty busy, and, having a line, being moms and then having our careers is quite a lot.”

The business partners started their line after realising that they were both fans of sewing at home.

Jeanne told NY magazine: “It’s so rare, unfortunately, that I actually know people who are into crafting and doing stuff like that.

Katie – who has a four-year-old daughter, Suri, with husband Tom Cruise – said her favourite things to sew are “aprons for the girls, pillows, tablecloths, baby clothes, Barbie clothes.”

The pair also agree that making money from the label isn’t as important as all the pieces being produced in the US.

Jeanne said: “100 percent of our line is produced here in the States. We can make some of the most beautiful luxury pieces here.

“Kate and I are always talking about how we’re Americans, and we want people to realise this, and so our price points – you know we don’t have the best margins but it doesn’t matter for us.”

Katie added: “It’s more important that it’s made in the USA.”

Sandra Bullock makes $1m Japan donation – we love her style! [gallery]

By Elisabeth on March 18th, 2011

Despite not always agreeing with her film choices, we’ve always thought Sandra Bullock seems like the nice girl next door who genuinely cares about what you think and have to say – the one who will be there with a cup of comforting tea when you need it the most. And we’re happy to report that we weren’t wrong.

As the world mobilizes to help disaster stricken Japan which suffered widespread devastation to its north eastern island as a result of the 9.0 magnitude earthquake and tsunami last Friday, Sandra has donated an amazing £1 million to the America Red Cross on behalf of her family to help with essential relief. This is the biggest celebrity contribution to be made public so far and matches the sum Sandra donated to Doctors Without Borders after the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

A casual girl at heart – she has been spotted many times in a jeans and top combo – Sandra has also impressed us with her fashion choices for the red carpet. Below are a few of our favourite choices:

Kate Middleton’s see-through dress fetches £78,000 in auction

By shinychris on March 18th, 2011

The see-through dress that first attracted Prince William to Kate Middleton has been auctioned off for £65,000 plus an additional £13,000 in buyer’s fees.

The dress, which cost £30 to make, was originally worn by Ms Kate Middleton at a charity fashion show held at St Andrews University in 2002.

When Kate Middleton hit the catwalk wearing the see through dress and black lingerie her future husband to be, Prince William, was in the crowd. The two originally met at St Andrews and will be married next month at the Westminster Abbey.

The dress was purchased at the auction by one individual on behalf of “Nick from Jersey.” The buyer considered the dress to be an iconic piece and was very happy to pay the combined £78,000 for the purchase.

The auction had begun at a starting bid of £20,000 but soon climbed up via telephone bids. Once the price reached £50,000 the bidding became a two-way battle between some pre-registered bidders and the individual who walked away the winner of the auction.

The dress was originally created by Charlotte Todd back in 2000 when she was a student in the fashion design programme at the University of West England. Ms Todd explained that she and her husband will most likely put the money towards the purchase of a home.

“It was just pure luck that Kate, out of all those girls, wore it for a few seconds,” said the 31-year-old, who lives in Bristol. “I don’t even see it as a dress, really. To me it’s just a piece of fabric.”

Kerry Taylor, a London auctioneer, had estimated that the dress would be auctioned off for somewhere between £8,000 and £10,000.

Rihanna says dramatic hair cut changed her sound and style

By shinychris on March 18th, 2011

The gorgeous singer shocked fans in 2008 when she unveiled a new pixie crop and Rihanna credits the drastic cut with influencing her sound and personal style.

Rihanna says cutting her hair changed her life. Rihanna – who is currently sporting curly red hair – told US Vogue: “When I cut my hair, the whole sound changed, my style changed.”

The 23-year-old pop star is renowned for her unusual outfits and Rihanna explained she now loves experiment with her style.

She said: “Fashion has become more about taking a risk. When I am putting looks together, I dare myself to make something work.”

Rihanna also revealed she has finally come to terms with her curves and has decided to celebrate them rather than wishing she was skinnier.

She explained: “Over the holidays…I realized that I actually like my body, even if it’s not perfect according to the book. I just feel sexy. For the first time, I don’t want to get rid of the curves. My body is comfortable, and it’s not unhealthy, so I’m going to rock with it.”

Overwork to blame for John Galliano’s ‘anti-semitic outburst’?

By shinychris on March 18th, 2011

John Galliano’s alleged anti-Semitic outburst could have been caused by his demanding workload.

The designer was sacked from his role as creative director of Christian Dior following claims he verbally abused a couple in Paris last month but his friend and fellow designer Azzedine Alaia blames the pressures of the fashion industry and said John is “irreplaceable”.

He told WWD: “It’s sad. He’s a friend. It’s too much: too many collections; too much pressure. There are some people who are irreplaceable.”

Madonna’s alleged stalker declared unfit to stand trial

By shinychris on March 18th, 2011

Grzegorz Matlok – who was arrested last Saturday (12.03.11) after breaking into the ‘Material Girl’ hitmaker’s £10 million home in London – did not enter pleas to charges of burglary in court earlier this week, and it was instead ruled he will be held in custody until April 14 so his mental health can be assessed.

Grzegorz was wrestled to the ground by bodyguards at the 10-bedroom mansion belonging to the 52-year-old singer in London’s Marylebone area at 5.30am on Saturday, after being found clutching several of her possessions.

Despite having a huge security team and a state-of-the-art CCTV system in place, the Polish-born intruder – who the singer’s bodyguards told police was a ‘stalker’ – gained entry to the Georgian townhouse by smashing a side window.

Speaking of the incident, a senior police source said: “Something dreadful has happened here. The security around the world’s most famous pop star should be impregnable.”

At the time of the break-in, Madonna – who has four children, Lourdes, 14, Rocco, 10, Mercy, six, and five-year-old David – was in Bay City, Michigan, paying her respects to her late 99-year-old grandmother, Elsie Mae Fortin, who had helped raise the singer and her five siblings after their mother died of breast cancer when Madonna was just five.

Designer Spotlight: The best of House of Holland

Autumn/Winter 2007

We’re at a point at the moment where the British fashion industry has never been so exciting. From veterans like Vivienne Westwood to whippersnappers like Christopher Kane, there is an incredible amount of talent out there right now. For the first time London is definitely giving both Paris and Milan a run for their money as fashion capitals.

There isn’t a designer out there who encompasses everything about London street style quite as well as the House of Holland does. Ever since their 2007 runway show, which saw the model stomp down the runway looking boyish and sexy in a fluorescent T-shirt that boldly stated: “FLICK YA BEAN FOR AGYNESS DEYN.”  Everyone remembers that moment, right? A dedication to Agyness, model of the moment and face of the “new rave” craze, this was a piece that summed up that year in fashion. It was a bold and graphic collection that summed up everything that London style is about: eccentric fashion with a sense of humour. We were all hooked.

Since then creative director Henry Holland has never failed to disappoint us. Always taking a witty approach to luxury designer wear, using surreal prints, camp fabrics and huge furry pom-poms, fashion is fun again. We absolutely adored his recent A/W 2011 collection, which was a range of ladylike skirt suits in fun, bold fabrics teamed up with his trademark slogan T-shirts. Finally, the fashion-savvy young girl has a designer to look to for inspiration. To see our favourite House of Holland moments, check the gallery above.

Inject a little Jil Sander into your S/S wardrobe with splashes of colour

By Andrea Petrou on March 17th, 2011

Twill Slacks

Picture 1 of 6

These brilliant purple high-waisted slacks are sporty, sexy and on-trend. You can find them at American Apparel.

Fashion Week is long gone now, but spring is on the way – there’s no better way to celebrate that than with a graphic explosion of colour, as seen at Jil Sander (pictured). The fashion house’s long eye-popping column skirts, teamed with fluorescent lipstick and beautifully cut plain white tee-shirts, has become one of the most referenced catwalk collections of the year. Beautifully simple, youthful and fun, this is one trend we can get behind.

It’s so easy as a lover of the high street to fall into the trap of black, black, black. Little black dresses, black heels, black everything. Very classic, yes, and a bit Chanel, but – whisper it – a tiny bit boring. If you’re not interested in vampy dramatic black clothing or ballerina-esque neutrals, then this might be a trend that you want to try out.

It’s a trend that might be tricky to nail if you’re new to experimenting with colour – believe me, I know I definitely am – but the key to this look is to keep things simple. For full-on eye-popping fashion choose a statement piece in a vivid colour, such as a maxi skirt or pair of tailored trousers, and team it up with simple accessories and a clean white shirt for a look that’s both youthful and modern. Or, if you’re feeling a bit too timid to meet the trend head-on, give a nod to the look with a fluorescent handbag or pair of heels. River Island is fantastic for bright shoes – check out their “Fashion Fix” section for a selection of eye-popping shoes.

Also high on our colour-popping hit list is American Apparel. It may seem an obvious choice, but you really need to look no further for a wide range of sexy, youthful basics in eye-wateringly bright colours. We love their twill slacks in bright purple.

To check out our favourite colourful pieces on the high street, check out our gallery.
