January Jones is “like a guy”.

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

January Jones is “like a guy”.

The ‘Mad Men’ actress never feels intimidated by other celebrities but admits she is often lost for words when she meets her sporting heroes.

She said: “I’m really like a guy in a lot of ways. My screen saver is a picture of me with Eli and Peyton Manning taken at the Kentucky Derby. The most star-struck I get is around football players. I like the Pittsburgh Steelers – I was going to be Troy Polamalu for Halloween.”

Though January eventually rejected her Halloween costume idea, she did go to a party in drag – imitating the appearance of legendary fashion designer Yves Saint Laurent, much to the bemusement of other party guests.

She told the new issue of W magazine: “I told too many people I was going to be Troy, so I ended up going as Yves Saint Laurent. I didn’t do nude Yves Saint Laurent, although I love that picture. Instead, I slicked back my hair and put on glasses. I wore a tux with a bow tie. Unfortunately, people don’t know Yves Saint Laurent, and they thought I was the guy in the Six Flags commercial.”

Evan Rachel Wood and Robin Wright vow never to wear a corset again

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

Robin Wright and Evan Rachel Wood have vowed never to wear corsets again after donning them for their new movie ‘The Conspirator’.

Robin, 45, and her 23-year-old co-star both struggled to get to grips with the costumes for the movie set during the Civil War as they filmed in 100 degree heat on location in Savannah, Georgia.

Robin said: “I will never put on a corset again. I vow to never wear one again. That was the toughest part of the role, wearing that in the 100-degree heat on the set.”

Evan added: “Having to walk around with your own gravitational pull was insane. I don’t know how women did that. Robin and I kept talking about that the whole time. Even sitting down becomes an event.”

Evan also struggled with the lack of make-up as she admits she “can’t leave the house without mascara” although her less than glam on-screen look did help her to get into character.

She is quoted as telling People magazine: “It’s part of the territory. Playing a historical person, it helps. I didn’t think I looked anything like the [character] until they put the eyebrows on me, and the hair. It’s kind of eerie.”

Matthew Williamson’s collections are inspired by “global cultural references”.

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

Matthew Williamson’s collections are inspired by “global cultural references”.

The British designer – who recently created a new line for high street store Debenhams – is influenced by art he has seen across the world and based his latest work on a piece by an artist who mixed manmade materials with nature.

He said: “One reoccurring feature – that clearly defines my brand is the use of global cultural references. For my last mainline collection I was inspired by a Russian artist, Francisco Infante-Arana, who created mirrored sculptures in wilderness landscapes.

“I love the combination of nature and synthetics and I tend to play with this juxtaposition in my colour palette, fabrics and embellishments.”

Matthew – who has also recently supported children’s charity NSPCC by designing T-Shirts for children to raise funds – is glad to be able to bring his creations to the high street so everyone can afford to wear his clothes.

He told Britain’s OK! magazine: “I support the underlying concept behind Debenhams designer collections, which is to make high-end fashion accessible to style-conscious shoppers, no matter what their budget might be.”

Agyness Deyn takes up boxing for marathon

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

Agyness Deyn has taken up boxing during her training for the London Marathon.

The British supermodel – who is taking part in the charity run with designer Henry Holland on Sunday  says she has been working with a coach in the US to help prepare for challenge.

She told Britain’s The Times newspaper: “A friend suggested I would be good at boxing because of my long limbs, so I joined his gym in downtown New York. My coach has such a good name – Action Jackson.

“I didn’t think about what would happen if I got injured – you have to live your life.”

The 28-year-old beauty says she hopes to complete the 26.2-mile race by trying to forget about how long it is and is taking inspiration from the Tom Hanks movie ‘Forrest Gump’, in which he runs for days at a time.

She said: “My tactic for getting through the 26 miles is to go steady and stop thinking about how far I have to go. Like Forrest Gump, I just keep running.”

Agyness also keeps in good shape by watching what she eats but doesn’t deny herself treats.

She explained: “I try to be aware of what food I put in my body, and I eat lots of green veg and juices. That doesn’t mean I’ll deny myself a burger and chips, but it might mean I will make it myself, so I know what’s in it.”

Kate Middleton has had Princess Diana’s engagement ring resized to stop it from falling off.

By Andrea Petrou on April 13th, 2011

Kate Middleton has had Princess Diana’s engagement ring resized to stop it from falling off.

The brunette beauty is set to marry Prince William on April 29 and while she was thrilled when he presented her with his late mother’s band when he popped the question last year, Kate decided to make the alteration because she was terrified it would fall off during the ceremony.

A source said: “The band was turning. Kate absolutely adores it and didn’t want to cause a fuss.

“A bride’s worst nightmare is looking down and seeing her ring has fallen off. One can only imagine how this is magnified when you are marrying the future King of England.”

Kate has now asked Crown jewellers G Collins and Sons to attach two tiny platinum beats to the inside of the ring to make it a size I, one step up from Kate’s size H finger, to make it comfortable.

The £32 million ring was given to William by Kate after the pair got engaged in Kenya last October so that his mother Diana – who was killed in a Paris car crash in 1997 – would be part of their big day.

Kate and William will marry at London’s Westminster Abbey in front of 1,200 guests including David Beckham and his wife Victoria and Sir Elton John and his husband David Furnish.

Dolce and Gabbana launch T-shirt design contest with Kylie Minogue.

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Dolce and Gabbana have launched a T-shirt design contest with Kylie Minogue.

Fans are asked to design a T-shirt inspired by the ‘All the Lovers’ singer’s ‘Aphrodite: Les Folies Tour’ with the winning design being worn by the star at a photo shoot.

The design will also be featured on websites www.kylie.com, www.dolcegabbana.it and www.swide.com and the signed garment worn by Kylie will be presented to the designer.

A statement on talenthouse.com explained how the winner will be picked, saying: “Kylie Minogue, Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana will select the winning design from the pool of outstanding entries.

“The 50 top-voted submissions will be considered, but the winning entry may be selected from the larger pool of submissions.”

Dolce and Gabbana designed all the clothing for the ‘Aphrodite: Les Folies Tour’ which started in Denmark in February.

Kylie – who has had chart hits since her debut single ‘ I Should Be So Lucky’ in 1988 – recently said she felt the creativity of her elaborate live shows has had a direct influence on Lady Gaga,

She said: “I set the benchmark for Gaga. We’ve done it before, with all our creative shows, and now the new artists are following us.

“She inspires me and I love what she does. But we’ve done it before. I had the Aphrodite theme and no one has done that before. Think outside the box is what I do, and that’s what keeps it fresh for me. I set the benchmark and now I can’t wait to see what the new talent will do next.”

The T-shirt design competition is open until May 11, with the winner announced on May 18.

ShinyStyle Loves: Twisted Twee

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

I don’t usually get all jump about excited about a brand but the quirkyness of Twisted Twee has made me do just that.

The label focuses on lifestyle, menswear and and of course womens wear, adding a twist to the traditional printed t-shirts that are available. We heart the little sets for mum and baby, but also the huge range of pillows and cookery items, which are available. There’s also novelty knickers, bicycle gloves and maternity wear, which all make perfect gifts.

I’m really struggling not to get the credit card out, and once you’ve taken a look I’m sure you’ll have exactly the same issue. See the gallery below for some kooky examples.

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Bird prints of all shapes and sizes have flown into the highstreet this season thanks to designer influences from Bottega, Marc Jacobs and Prada.

Of course we’re used to nature prints, which always seem to crawl out for spring, but this season’s bird prints, which give a nod to the 70s have spread their wings on shift dresses, tops and wide legged trousers.

Some are bright coloured, while others are that little bit more subtle, and if you’re a fan of this trend then you’re in good celebrity company with the likes of Alexa Chung, Rihanna and Lily Allen all sporting this look.

Here’s our top five faves.

Jennifer Garner is a firm believer in “healthy beauty”.

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Jennifer Garner is a firm believer in “healthy beauty”.

The ‘Arthur’ actress was recently named as the face of Neutrogena in the UK and revealed she loves the skincare range because she is careful about protecting her face from environmental hazards.

She said: “I’ve been an ambassador for Neutrogena for a few years in the states and this is my first time in the UK. My family has been using Neutrogena since I was a little kid. I’ve two sisters, we grew up using Neutrogena and we’re big believers in healthy beauty in my family.

“I’m a huge fan of anti-oxidants and every woman out there should be! Most of the damage that happens to your skin is from environmental pollutants-the sun, the wind, pollution, indoor heating. Your skin is the first line of defence and you have to take care of it”

The new multi defence range includes a Daily Moisturiser which contains SPF25, along with a Gentle Purifying Scrub, a Night Moisturiser, Gentle Purifying Wipes and two other Daily Moisturisers with SPF15.

It was previously revealed Jennifer and her ‘Arthur’ co-star Russell Brand spent their time on set swapping beauty tips.

A source said: “Russell offered Jennifer his favourite nail polish shade, OPI’s Lincoln Park After Dark and kindly bought her a bottle. Another day they were chatting about shampoos and apparently Jennifer suggested Russell cut off his long wavy locks before his wedding day to Katy Perry, so he could ‘Look back on the pictures later and not cringe.’ “
