Elizabeth Hurley keeps her figure by banning fruit after 4pm

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Elizabeth Hurley refuses to eat raw fruits and vegetables after 4pm.

The 45-year-old actress is famed for her stunning figure and says she maintains it by being quite strict with her diet although often falls “by the wayside”.

She said: “I’ve never been in danger of losing too much weight. I do watch what I eat and try to eat healthily but I frequently fall by the wayside. Right now, I’m drinking protein shakes mid morning and I think they really help. I also don’t eat raw fruits and vegetables after 4pm and follow a low-fat diet with very little dairy.”

Although Elizabeth – who has her own beachwear collection – is slim enough to flaunt her figure in bikinis, she now feels more comfortable wearing swimming costumes.

She told Britain’s Hello! magazine: “I certainly love everything we produce, but we sell a lot to women both younger and older than me. I often wear one pieces now, but they’re really sexy ones, with chains and crystals. I still dread the thought of shooting bikinis and we actually used a fabulous young Brazilian model this time too. Her body is amazing – she’s 20 years younger than me!”

Cheryl Cole jetting off to Las Vegas with Derek Hough

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Cheryl Cole is planning a trip to Las Vegas with Derek Hough.

The 27-year-old singer and her rumoured boyfriend are set to visit his mother Marianne Nelson in Nevada before they take in some tourist attractions in the US resort in August, which is known for its casinos and spectacular stage shows.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Cheryl’s only been to Vegas once before and didn’t get to spend much time there so she’s really looking forward to it.

“She has already made a list of things she wants to do and said she wants to just be a ‘tourist’ and do all the tacky things people do there.

“She wants to see some shows and have a flutter on the roulette.”

Last month, it was reported that Derek went to Las Vegas – known as Sin City – with Cheryl’s younger brother Garry Tweedy.

The lads became firm friends as they partied the night away at the Moon nightclub at Palms hotel.

A pal said time: “They drove to Vegas through the desert and had a right laugh along the way.

“Derek’s really become a brother-like figure to Garry. Cheryl’s really happy they are getting on so well.”

Mischa Barton refuses to spend lots of money on a trendy handbag

By Andrea Petrou on April 12th, 2011

Mischa Barton refuses to spend lots of money on a trendy handbag.

The actress – who has her own line of bags – says she doesn’t see the point in splashing out on a “handbag-of-the moment” and would rather save her cash for a classic item.

She said: “I think handbags are a great area to work in because you can do anything with them. They can really change an outfit. You always look at girls’ bags and you don’t want to spend a fortune on them. You want them to be functional, have pockets and work, but you don’t want it to be a piece of c**p. I don’t want to spend a fortune on crazy of-the-moment handbags. If it’s going to cost me like $600 to get a handbag of-the-moment then I’m probably not even going to bother to do it. I just have my classics that I like.”

Mischa believes the success of her handbag line is due to the fact a lot of the pieces are stylish yet affordable.

She told online blog Zap2it: “I think what really works for them is that we’re really able to keep the price point quite low, but still funky and cool. Some of them are not supposed to last forever. They’re more like fun bags, and then we have the more serious ones. We’ve been working on the proper like, doctor bags, the ones that do last a long time.”

That’s right golden tones are back in.

Alexa Chung showed us exactly how this eye colour should be worn when she showed off her smoky eyes a few weeks ago, while Blake Lively showed us how to add for an evening look.

Kate Middleton’s wedding hair will be styled by London-based hairdresser James Pryce

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Kate Middleton’s wedding hair will be styled by London-based hairdresser James Pryce.

The 33-year-old stylist works for the Richard Ward salon in Chelsea and he will work on her brunette locks on the morning of her wedding to Prince William on April 29.

His boss Richard will style the hair of both Kate’s mother Carole and sister Pippa, who is the maid of honour.

It is expected James – who currently charges £50 for a styling session – will be able to charge higher prices as a result of the job.

A source said: “After the wedding, I expect it will be extremely difficult to get an appointment with James – and that his prices will go up.”

However he will be helped by a team of “dressers” on the morning of the wedding, with preparation taking place at the Goring Hotel in Belgravia close to Buckingham Palace.

Although it is not known who will be dressing the bride at her wedding, it is thought British designer Alice Temperley will create the outfits for her bridesmaids, with Pippa seen at her West London studio for three hours earlier this month.

Victoria Beckham wants to call her little girl “Santa”

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Victoria Beckham wants to name her daughter Santa.

The fashion designer – who has children Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, eight, and six-year-old Cruz with soccer star David Beckham – is currently considering names for her new baby, and has been inspired by the Los Angeles suburb of Santa Monica.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Posh thinks Santa Beckham has a lovely ring to it and wants something unique.

“David prefers something traditional, but will probably go along with what she chooses.”

Meanwhile, 35-year-old David is planning a “fly” fashion line with for babies with rapper Snoop Dogg.

The 39-year-old star said: “I’d love to do a Babygro range with baby shoes with Beckham.

“It’s going to be fly. It’s great news they are having a baby.”

Snoop also revealed he wants David to rap on one of his new albums, and always gives the English sports star a copy of his music before it is complete.

He told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Whenever I make a record I give him a copy before it’s done.

“He’s like a brother. I’m gonna show him to rap. He’s my boy. I love soccer just as he does hip-hop. Beckham needs to keep doing what he’s doing. He’s a great father.”

He also hopes the newborn will be able to play with his daughter Cori, who is affectionately nicknamed Chocolate.

Snoop added: “Now he’s having a beautiful girl to play with my daughter Chocolate.”

Julianne Moore “hates” 1950s style.

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Julianne Moore “hates” 1950s style.

The ‘Kids Are Alright’ star prefers the style of the 1970s because her body shape does not fit into the classic 50s look.

She said: “I don’t like 50s clothes. I wear them in movies, or they appear on the runway, ladylike waists and all that. I’m like, ‘No!’

“I hate them on me because I have no waist. I go straight up and down.

“I remember a Life magazine photo of a girl with long hair, in jeans, no make-up, hair very loose and I thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world. Very 70s. That has stayed with me my entire life.”

The 50-year-old actress is famed for her pale skin and natural beauty, and she believes staying out of the sun has helped her age well.

She told InStyle magazine: “I say this to every young person I know, stay out of the sun! I have very fair skin and it could have been super damaged.

“I was a kid before SPF was invented. But my family never went to the beach until after three o’clock and only stayed for 45 minutes. Now I always wear sunscreen and I walk on the shady side of the street.”

Style spotlight: Amanda Seyfried

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Amanda Seyfried has once again made a huge mark on our fashion radar. The actress, who disappeared after her fame on Mama Mia, has made a come back with a ware wolf inspired take of Little Red Riding Hood, aptly named Red Riding Hood.

And with the film tipped to be huge – it’s directed by a Twilight director, Amanda’s fashion profile is sure to rise.

Unlike many an actress who go for big gowns and lots of bling in a bid to stand out, Amanda’s style is pretty subtle. The actress is a fan of bodycon frocks, which sit either daringly above the thigh or just above the knee and it seems she’s a fan of those bright colours often opting for purples, blues and turquoises on the red carpet. However, she’s also not afraid to experiment. In the past she’s been snapped in shorts and blazers as well as fairytale style ballgown dresses, which haven’t quite hit the fashion mark.

And of course she’s also no stranger to the classic LBD, wearing a range of these too.

See the gallery below for all her style.

Blackeyed Peas singer Fergie launches her second perfume – Outspoke Intense

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Fergie has launched her second fragrance, Outspoken Intense.

The Black Eyed Peas singer has created a follow-up to her first scent Outspoken with make-up brand Avon, and she explained she wanted to add a little more “edge” to the perfume this time around.

She told People: “I had so much fun developing and launching my first fragrance with Avon, so for my second fragrance, I really wanted something with a little more edge.

“Outspoken Intense is a provocative blend of sexy confidence and daring femininity that captures the thrill and excitement of being centre stage.

“You feel an electrifying rush – a feeling like no other.”

The perfume contains a blend of blackberry, starfruit and passion flowers.

Fergie has previously claimed fate led her to collaborate with Avon because her grandmother worked as a saleswoman for the door-to-door cosmetics brand.

She said: “They approached me, and what girl doesn’t want to have a fragrance? What was interesting to me was that my grandma was an Avon lady. My mom used to help her package all the Avon stuff and have these little parties, so for me it was just a sign. I also love all the work they do with breast cancer and cancer survivors.”

Flat shoes are a no, no for Christina Hendricks

By Andrea Petrou on April 11th, 2011

Christina Hendricks never wears flat shoes.

The ‘Mad Men’ actress – who is famed for her curvaceous figure – revealed she is a huge fan of high heels and if she is not wearing them she usually goes barefoot.

She said: “I’m either barefoot or in high heels. I’ve fallen madly in love with some Charlotte Olympia heels- they’ve got a big bow on them. If I find a pair that’s comfy and high, then I pick them up.”

Christina is not just passionate about shoes, she has very specific tastes when it comes to clothes and prefers to wear eclectic items that show off her waist where possible.

She explained to Britain’s InStyle magazine: “My day-to-day style is very feminine and eclectic. I like to mix vintage with new or tough with sweet. My ‘Mad men’ character Joan is a lot more streamlined than I am, I like a little bit more romance in my clothes.

“I know from the show that it’s good to show off my waist. It’s a nice quality I have. I’m drawn to things with a nice waistline, but if something doesn’t have one, then I tailor it so it does.”

Designer spotlight: Miu Miu

Spring/Summer 2006

Carrying on with our galleries of some of our greatest designers of the moment, we’re getting in touch with our fabulously Italian sides today and shining the spotlight on Miu Miu, the diffusion line of Miuccia Prada and one of the biggest labels in fashion en ce moment. Infamous for their devilishly girly designs, with more than a dash of blatant sexuality in a naughty “Lolita” way, Miu Miu is the label to love if you like your fashion frothy and playful.

Anyone who’s anyone has been seen out in recent years in one of their deliciously eccentric designs – their speciality seems to have become fun, sugary prints that are great for wearing if you want to go out and play. Everyone from Victoria Beckham to Daisy Lowe was seen last year in their Spring/Summer swallow-printed dresses with the cheeky cutaway panels which revealed a lot of beautiful skin – you know you’re doing something right if both fashion’s first lady and a scruffy edgy thing like Daisy are angling to wear your dresses.

Another favourite of ours recently have been their gorgeous kitten-printed blouses, complete with sparkling Swarovski detail. I know that on paper it sounds hideous and OTT but when in reality was a piece of fashion magic – a reflection on a world that now welcomes the kitsch and the silly with open arms. And why shouldn’t it?

Their most recent collection has been a bit more muted, with overcoats and dresses in burnt umber and oranges, but the ornate Miu Miu attention to detail remains, with beautifully stitched and printed oriental-style florals creeping up hemlines and sleeves.

Miu Miu, we love you! Passionately! Check out the gallery above to see our favourite moments from Miu Miu since 2006.

Style icon spotlight: Debbie Harry

By emilyborrett on April 8th, 2011

Fierce, studded and punky, Debbie's look often involved a lot of fetish-y leather. Check out those over-the-knee boots

Picture 1 of 10

Yesterday we went back to the 1960s to celebrate the classic style of Factory superstar and rich socialite Edie Sedgwick – but today we’re fast-forwarding to 1979 in New York, where girl power was having it’s first proper punk moment. Heading up a wave of new strong, confident girl rockers was the mysterious and beautiful Debbie Harry, ex Playboy Bunny turned punk queen.

With her messy mop of ice-blonde hair, nonchalant attitude and tough-girl dress sense, she was the girl that everyone wanted to be (even some of the boys). Whether she was shooting a music video in a laidback Grecian dress or performing onstage with Blondie in nothing more than a band T-shirt and knickers, everyone wanted a piece of the Debbie Harry magic – and they still do. Celebrities such as Kirsten Dunst and Kate Moss cite Debbie Harry as one of their style heroes – she’s one of mine, too.

The distressed, rough-around-the-edges look is huge again at the monent, with designers such as Alexander Wang and Balenciaga giving the black leather n’ lace look a modern revamp. It’s one of the absolute easiest styles to try out – all you need is a pair of cool shades and attitude. Debbie’s dress sense was very no-frills, no-fuss – just sling a leather jacket over your favourite old T-shirt, and a slick of red lipstick and you’re good to go.

So here’s Shiny Style’s girl-power salute to the Blondie singer – check out the gallery above for our favourite Debbie Harry looks, and the best copycat finds on the high street.
