Lily Allen admits her fashion range isn’t “ground breaking”

By Andrea Petrou on June 15th, 2011

Lily Allen admits her fashion range isn’t “ground breaking”.

The ‘Not Fair’ hitmaker – who married building firm boss Sam Cooper on Saturday admits she and her sister Sarah Owen don’t do the actual designs for their Lucy in Disguise label and knows their collections are unlikely to change the face of fashion.

She said: “Sarah and me work with a designer called Nadia Jones. We tell her what we want and she does the sketches.

“We were inspired by vintage clothing – we’re not doing anything ground breaking.”

Lily also admitted working with her sister can be “challenging”, but she is more honest with her about her feelings than she is with anyone else in their company.

She told more! magazine: “It’s challenging. It can be a struggle with family members. It’s difficult not to be honest all the time. There’s a lot of tongue biting.

“Crispin, who I work with, and I disagree about stuff, but I always hold back because we’re not related. There’s a lot more horrible stuff I could say! But yeah, with my sister, when she starts to irritate me I just want to pull a face. But I don’t think everyone else in the office would like it very much.”

Fergie struggles to have the “discipline” to eat healthily all the time

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2011

Fergie struggles to have the “discipline” to eat healthily all the time.

The Black Eyed Peas singer gets all her food and drinks delivered to the home she shares with husband Josh Duhamel but can’t resist tucking into her favourite junk foods whenever she has the opportunity.

She said: “I have a meal-delivery service; Diet Designs. They’re amazing – they’ll have butter lettuce and avocado and pink grapefruit. They do butternut-squash enchiladas, which are really good. I also get these pressed juices delivered to my house, so I get all these different and wonderful vegetables. My problem is my discipline. I see a Jack in the Box or a Del Taco, and I will impulsively want it. I’m a work in progress in that area.”

The 36-year-old star maintains her figure with strenuous work outs – but admits she has to wear two sports bras in order to keep her assets under control.

She told Allure magazine: “I do cardio and resistance training. I’m getting more into jump rope now.”

Explaining her double underwear trick, she added: “For your shoulders, if you have breasts. There’s a lot of … waving.”

The ‘My Humps’ hitmaker also revealed she has learned to appreciate her “unique” nose, and no longer resents the fact it is less-than-perfect.

She added: “I’ve learned to love my nose because it’s unique. It’s interesting, and it just makes me a little different.”

Pippa Middleton to relocate to France following her split from Alex Loudon

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2011

Pippa Middleton wants to move abroad following her split from Alex Loudon.

The 27-year-old beauty – the sister of Duchess Catherine – recently parted ways with her boyfriend of six months, and is planning to test out living in the South of France for a while to see if she could make a “base” there more permanently.

A source said: “Pippa and Alex and going to have a three-month separation.

“She is keen to spend some time living abroad – she’s a massive fan of the South of France and hopes to work there and have a base there a bit more permanently.

“But Alex doesn’t have the same dream as Pippa. He’s quite happy being in London, so it’s not something he’s keen to share with her.”

In particular, Pippa – who played maid of honour to her sibling at her recent wedding to Prince William – wants to work in the party planning business.

The source added to The Sun newspaper: “She’s an amazing social networker and wants to throw the biggest and best parties.

“She’d love to work on events around the Cannes Film Festival.”

However, Alex is keen to see what they can make of their relationship when she returns to the UK in the autumn.

The insider said: “Alex is gutted about it, but he feels his life has been turned upside down since the royal wedding.

“But he has high hopes that by September she might have thought things over and realise that she might be better off staying in London rather than running off all over the world.”

Style spotlight: Olivia Wilde

By Elisabeth on June 14th, 2011

Starlet Olivia Wilde is causing quite the stir in Hollywood these days. Mostly for her rumoured love triangle with Bradley Cooper (Swoon!) and Justin Timberlake, but also for her recent appearances in House M.D. and Tron: Legacy.

Since her The O.C. days Olivia has become a regular on the red carpet and has wowed fans with a mix of beautiful ball gown conceptions and bodycon dresses over the years. Who can forget that strapless chocolate brown sparkling Marchesa gown?!

Currently rocking the blunt fringe, Olivia is definitely making her mark on Hollywood fashion – but it’s great to see that she can dress down in jeans and flip-flops too!

Shoes which Naomi Campbell famously fell over in have been put on display.

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2011

The shoes which Naomi Campbell famously fell over in have been put on display.

The supermodel was wearing the Super Elevated Gillie heels by Dame Vivienne Westwood when she spectacularly tumbled to the ground as she took part in a Paris catwalk show in 1993.

Now the nine-inch high mock-crocodile skin shoes are part of an exhibition at the Bowes Museum, County Durham, England, which shows off shoes from Vivienne’s range since 1973.

Ahead of the exhibition, Vivienne said: “Shoes must have very high heels and platforms to put women’s beauty on a pedestal.”

Joanna Hashagen, keeper of textiles at the Bowes Museum, said all the pieces of footwear, including the infamous ‘Super Elevated Gillie’ shoes, were “works of art in themselves”.

She said: “We all know about how fantastic her clothes are, but this is the first time anyone has really focused on her shoe collection.

“They are just staggering – and they are made from everything, anything you could think of.

“When you see them, you see they are sculptures, they are works of art in themselves.”

Visitors have until 10 July to catch the exhibition before it moves to Japan, New York and China.

Angelina Jolie has Core Values for Louis Vuitton

By Andrea Petrou on June 14th, 2011

Angelina Jolie is the latest celebrity to appear in Louis Vuitton’s Core Values campaign.

The 35-year-old actress follows Bono and his wife Ali Hewson, Sean Connery and Francis Ford Coppola and his daughter Sofia in posing for the luxury brand and Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton’s executive vice president, is looking forward to showing a different side to the star.

Of the campaign which shows Angelina barefoot, wearing her own clothes and carrying her personal monogrammed Alto bag, he told WWD: “People are not used to seeing Angelina in this situation. I like the fact that it’s a real moment. This travel message we give through personal journeys is a fundamental one for the brand.

“This campaign is about a very special person and a very special journey.”

Although the Alto bag featured in the campaign is no longer in production, Pietro explained “we are considering to re-edit it”.

The pictures – taken by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz in Siem Reap, Cambodia – will be released internationally on Wednesday (15.06.11).

Angelina has donated an undisclosed portion of her fees to a charity.

Review: Blonde for summer? Trust Lisa Shepherd London and get 30% off your first visit!

By Elisabeth on June 13th, 2011

Photo: Lisa Shepherd London

I went bottle blonde many years ago and have since varied between California blonde, Nordic light ash blonde to once a peroxide platinum nightmare where I actually did think my hair was going to fall off (Note to self: don’t bleach at home…)

Before the New Year I fell in love with my roots and let my natural colour shine through, which meant by the time May came around my hair looked more like Drew Barrymore’s dip-dye than Daryl Hannah’s Kill Bill blonde.

That said, hippy chic has never been my thing so when summer hinted that it was just around the corner I felt an urge to go back to my Scandinavian roots and go all-over blonde once more. However, since it was weeks until payday, I decided to book myself in at a ‘cheap and cheerful’ salon just minutes from where I work called Vannoli Hair. After all, how bad could it be? It’s only a bit of colour…

It went wrong, all kinds of horrible wrong.

Having opted for a light ash blonde, my roots were at first bleached to ensure the hair would get an even, all-over colour. As a colour addict, I know that sometimes the shades can look different while developing, but nothing – and I mean NOTHING – could have prepared me for what I was about to see. Looking back at me from the mirror was Madam Mim; my hair had gone dark ashy! Naturally I kicked up a fuss and said I would not be leaving looking like that and demanded them to strip the colour from my already over-processed tresses.

When I finally left – four(!) hours after starting what was now a colour catastrophe – my scalp was burning and was showing signs of small sores. Once home the actual horror dawned on me: apart from feeling like a scouring pad upon touch, my hair now had an awkward yellowish tint!

The next morning, in sheer desperation I pleaded to the Gods of Hair to fix my misfortune – through the modern means of Twitter of course – and was thrilled when the wonderful Wahanda and Lisa Shepherd Salon answered my call for help.

By the end of the day, I’d had my colour consultation and was booked in for an appointment the very next morning.

Arriving at Lisa Shepherd London’s cool, calm central London premises on a sunny Saturday – it recently won Salon Interior of the Year 2011 – I was met with welcome smiles and a relaxed atmosphere that made my stress levels drop a notch or two. I immediately knew my hair and I were in good hands.

Photo: Lisa Shepherd London

Director of Lisa Shepherd London, Jason Cocking – who joined the company seven years ago and became one of Lisa Shepherd’s Art Directors before setting up the London venture – met me with a calm smile and knew exactly what had to be done.

After conferring with their Colour Director Sarah, Jason explained that he would only be colouring the yellow roots, leaving the more distressed tresses alone as they already had a nice blonde shade. The Swartzkopf colour, mixed right in front of my eyes, offered an intense coolness to my still burning scalp. Once all yellow strands of hair had been covered, I spent the next half hour flicking through magazines, browsing the net and sipping a lovely ice cold drink in the ‘break-out’ area, with Jason regularly checking in on how the colour was developing.

Rinsed and blow-dried straight, the end result was a lovely blonde colour. I was so pleased that I’ll happily admit I almost cried. I then understood even more why Jason is such a hit with celebrities – he has previously styled the hair of Mary Kate & Ashley Olsen, Cat Deeley, Zoe Ball, and Nigella Lawson – as his down-to-earth manner and colouring skills combined definitely are worth the indulgence!

To lend from Shakespeare, if clothes make the man, then hair definitely makes the woman; I left the salon feeling like an A-lister with bouncy, blonde locks and a bright smile. I know where I am going when my roots need a touch up!

Here is the result of my hair colour rescue!

If you are thinking about going blonde for the summer Jason offers some advice:

“When choosing a blonde shade there are some things which must be considered: your skin tone, the natural depth, your lifestyle and how you are able to maintain the look with salon visits. Everyone can achieve that celebrity blonde look.”

“When choosing a blonde the best way to work is with a neutral base and placing tones within it. With rosy skin tones, such as Lady Gaga, work with light pastel blondes. On a neutral face tone, like Jennifer Aniston, work with golden lights and if you have olive or yellow based skin tones stay away from golds, like Gwen Stefani.”

Lady Gaga’s Versace vow

By Andrea Petrou on June 13th, 2011

Lady Gaga is only going to wear Versace clothes for the next two months.

The ‘Born This Way’ singer has become obsessed with the fashion house’s garments, both new and vintage, and has decided to exclusively style herself in the clothes.

Speaking at the Schlosshotel Bensberg in Bergisch Gladbach, Germany, Gaga – who was wearing a floor-length, low-cut Versace dress and latex gloves – told BANG Showbiz: “Right now what I’m wearing is an archive Gianni Versace. This was never seen before. It is a dress that was made before he died. And actually I’m wearing only Versace for like the next two months. I’m having a love affair with Donatella.”

Gaga – who is in the European country to perform on the final of ‘Germany’s Next Top Model’, which is hosted by Heidi Klum, tonight (09.06.11) – is known for her outrageous outfits, but she insists she feels more comfortable when she is nude.

She said: “I sometimes feel naked with clothes on. Sometimes I feel less naked with no clothes. Does that make any sense? I feel quite comfortable in my underwear or in see thorough things.”

The 25-year-old pop superstar admits she does sometimes go too far with her outfits, but she doesn’t let that stop her from being experimental because fashion should be fun above everything else.

When asked if she ever regrets any of her outfits, she said: “All the time. But that’s part of the fun of it. You know, I always try to get dressed with a little bit of humour. It’s not about being sexy or being just, I guess, attractive. It’s about having fun.”
