Gisele Bundchen, the world’s highest-paid supermodel, will apparently no longer wear heels on the catwalk because she isn’t used to them anymore, says designer Nicolas Ghesquiere. And apparently she isn’t the only one, either, as he claims more and more models are refusing to walk in ankle-breakers.
Nicolas told NY Magazine: “The idea was to have this crazy casting with Gisele Bundchen and Amber Valletta and Carolyn Murphy and they said no for high heels. They were not used to walking in heels anymore. Gisele was worried, she would not walk in my heels.”
Well, I suppose when you’re the highest earning model in the world you can choose to be a little picky about what you will and won’t do. But come on love, you’re Gisele!

The designer Marc Jacobs has gushingly spoken out about his admiration for the supermodel Kate Moss, who closed his fetish-inspired Louis Vuitton runway show this season to much applause.
Marc puts Kate’s enduring success and popularity as a model down to her “unique” and “huge” presence – according to the designer there are not many models like Kate.
Jacobs told Vogue: “I mean Kate is, besides being physically beautiful and an incredibly charismatic and extraordinary personality, just very rare – if not totally unique. Kate can be just Kate, and the presence is just huge. She fills space, indoor and outdoor, studio space and pages, with such life. That energy really comes through in any and everything that she does.”
It sounds to us like Marc’s got a bit of a girl-crush on Kate, but can you blame him? This is one of our favourite friendships within the fashion industry.

The actress Sienna Miller has donated her favourite pairs of shoes to the charity “Small Steps Project”, which raises awareness of children in Cambodia working on landfill sites.
Along with other celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Colin Firth and Eva Green, Sienna will be auctioning off her very favourite shoes, with the profit going to the Small Steps Project, at the Royal Society of Medicine on the 12th of October.
The charity was started by celebrity journalist Amy Hanson, who was shocked by the poverty and living conditions in Cambodia when she visited in 2008. She said about her time there: “When I went to Cambodia, I witnessed huge landfills filled with our waste and excess packaging where the local children would look for scraps to sell in order to support their families. Ideally we want to raise enough money to get the children away from the rubbish dumps and into schools, but for now we’re focusing on providing durable boots to prevent the children from harming themselves with the shards of glass and sharp objects on the ground.”
A very worthy cause. If you happen to be the same shoe size as Sienna, and you’ve got money to burn then get down to that auction in October!

Singer Beyoncé Knowles has revealed a sneak preview of pieces from her new fashion collection which will hit UK stores next month.
In the photos Beyoncé – who has revealed she could soon be ready to start a family with husband and rap star Jay-Z – is sporting French knickers and lace-high socks. It comes as no surprise that B is modelling the range herself, just look at those legs!
The new House of Dereon range will be launched at Selfridges, London, in September – coinciding nicely with London Fashion Week – and Beyoncé is set to fly in for the occasion. Her second collection, which by the looks of it will include tribal-prints, will start at £80 and be exclusively available in Selfridges for six week before going into other stores in October.

Kat Von D, the celebrity tattooist and star of ‘L.A. Ink’, might have been the reason for Sandra Bullock and Jesse James marriage ending and have since see her own relationship with J.J. end – but only after she had had his name tattooed onto her body. It probably was a good idea at the time… Kat, who has rarely been seen in public since announcing her split from Jesse, has certainly not been idle in her time away from the paparazzi lenses.
Very.co.uk has just brought out a capsule Kat Von D collection comprising of six items that include a military coat, a Beethoven inspired jacket and some lace leggings. Say what you like of her personal life, but we quite like Kat’s fashion range, which ranges from £78 to £290. Now which shoes to go with it…

Is Bradford - pictured above - the least fashionable place in the UK
Women in Bradford – followed by those living in Wakefield and Sunderland – have been voted the least fashionable in the UK, according to research from Beauty Town.
The 1,000 Brits polled really do think it’s ‘grim up north’ when it comes to female residents, with northern lasses being voted the least beautiful too. Unsurprisingly, the fashionistas of London were voted top in the fashion stakes (63%) as well as being crowned the most beautiful (50%).
However, bucking the north-south divide, those from Edinburgh and Manchester were voted second and third respectively (see league table below).
The survey found that although Londoners are well dressed, Brighton residents are the most confident when it comes to picking an outfit, with 30% saying they had a good eye for fashion compared to just 23% from the capital.
Beauty Town, a new Facebook game where people can open and manage their own virtual fashion boutique, could come to the rescue as it allows players to learn more about fashion and looking good while having fun with their friends. Beauty Town is available to play on Facebook and can be accessed by visiting http://apps.facebook.com/beautytown.
The survey found Brits aren’t convinced that women pay much attention to looking good before they walk out the door with 52% saying they don’t take enough care over their appearance, particularly when compared to their European counterparts with 44% saying British women didn’t match up. Only 3% of female respondents said they are a trendsetter amongst their peer group and half said they hardly ever got a truthful opinion on what they wear from their other half.
Beauty Town has been created by Dynamo Games and funded by Channel 4. It allows players to select clothes and accessories to sell in their shop and enables them to encourage their friends on the social network to visit and make purchases. Beauty Town is available to play at http://apps.facebook.com/beautytown

Summer seems to be over judging by the measly 14 degrees as I left the flat this morning. But that means autumn is just around the corner, and with it an abundance of big jackets and chunky, comforting knitwear.
If you’re after expanding your winter wardrobe but want to do it with a green heart and choose eco friendly fashion, Edun is the brand for you. The brand of Ali Hewson and Bono, offers an array of stylish yet sustainable fashion perfect for wintery fun.
Edun’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection focuses on fashionable, utilitarian outerwear, particularly jackets and coats that combine leather and wool. The catwalk also showed textured knitwear made in Africa by nuns (!): dresses, cardigans, pullovers and skirts in variations of the classic Fair Isle pattern.
In contrast to the more heavy winter wear were girly draped dresses and blouses in intense patterns and vivid colours.
Check out Edun’s Autumn/Winter menswear collection here.

Claudia Schiffer has spoken out about her brand new cashmere collection to say how proud she is of each piece.
The collection, which was a collaborative effort between the supermodel and knitwear brand Iris von Arnim, includes a range of granddad cardigans, knitted dresses and boyfriend jumpers – each of which Claudia designed with her own tastes in mind.
Claudia told Hello! magazine: “When deciding to launch my cashmere collection it was important to create something true to my personal sense of style and aesthetic, where I would want to wear every piece and be proud of what I was offering to other women. The model also revealed that her inspiration behind the cashmere collection was the woodlands that she walked in as a child in Germany. “My inspiration is the forest and its dark side. It’s not about the cute fox, more the fox eating its prey and pebbles lying on the forest floor that could turn out to be spiders.”
This new project means that Claudia won’t be returning to the catwalk anytime soon, as she wants to devote all her time to the new knitwear venture. When asked about the lack of plans to return to modelling, Claudia said: “I’d much rather be working on this new project anyway. I want to meet all the press and buyers personally – it’s that kind of project.”
A catwalk without Claudia is like a day without sunshine! Come back to us soon.

Pretty in pink: Lea opted for rose-tinted romance in this candy-coloured ruffled gown at the Golden Globes
Anyone with Glee fever, or indeed simply anyone with an eye for style, can understand why we’ve got such a girl-crush on Lea Michele right now. Despite her unusual looks she’s proved the nay-sayers wrong with her quirky beauty and eye for dramatic fashion – if ever there was a new iconic diva on the block to follow in the footsteps of Barbara Streisland etc, Lea Michele is the woman for the job.
Just earlier today we reported on her evolving sense of style, according to Glee director Ryan Murphy. Ever since we first got Glee fever and saw that first red paparazzi photo of Lea with sultry seventies hair in a floral maxi-dress, a far cry from the preppy style of her character Rachel Berry, we’ve been hooked.
We particularly love her red carpet style – Lea never goes for the understated option at glamorous events, often opting for gowns with bold splashes of colour, huge dramatic fishtail dresses and scarily high heels.
Here is our gallery of our favourite Lea Michele moments, check it out above.

White Print Fur Coat
Thanks to this season's love for a mixture of tactile fabrics, fur is still on the hot list. This white animal print fur coat is from River Island.
There’s nothing that gets me in the mood for Autumn’s arrival than a brand spanking new snuggly, warm coat – luckily the coat is a key piece this season for channelling the Autumn/Winter trends.
On the Burberry Prorsum catwalk it was all about cute duffel coats in cheerfully bright shades of orange, blue, red and yellow, with leather detailing – luckily Topshop has already released a postbox-red coat that’s really similar to the ones seen at Burberry. Just team with a sixties miniskirt and a Breton top and you’ve got a classic look that’s good to go. Another colourful favourite was Asos’ bright and shiny blue rainmac, which is both chic and practical – it’ll look adorable with tights, a tea dress and some retro ankle boots.
Other designers went for a more mad, all-over-the-place approach to mixing textiles and print this season – if you want to get in on this season’s incredibly chic “mad bag lady” look (one I’ve been rocking for years now, I might add) then a tactile or patterned coat is a good place to start. At River Island we loved their white animal-printed fur coat, which could look cool clashing with floral or other animal prints, while at Asos it was all about their thrift-style Aztec printed coat.
If it’s the slick and sensual dominatrix look that you’re after, however, as seen at Louis Vuitton, then try out Topshop for their amazing belted mac. Clever Toppers have updated a classic by adding a leather collar and sleeves for a fetish feel. Wear with a simple black dress and patent heels for a look that’s good to go.
Check out our top 5 Autumn/Winter coats in the gallery above.

We desperately want to get a flight to New York this Christmas, because we’ve just heard that Lady Gaga is collaborating with her BFF Nicola Formichetti to design a range of limited edition gifts for Barney’s department store.
The seasonal campaign, titled “Gaga’s Workshop”, will be taking over the fifth floor men’s department in November, turning the area into Gaga’s very own bizarre Christmas wonderland.
The gifts that will be on sale include sweets, toys, candles, cosmetics and jewellery made entirely out of rock candy, as well as Gaga-curated books and CDs. Barney’s chief exec, Mark Lee, spoke out about the new collaboration: “Holiday is about joy, sharing and inclusiveness, and to me, Gaga really represents all of that. Her platform is so much about positivity, individuality and universality in a very today way.”
He continued, “There are a lot of things for fans of all ages, for kids and kids at heart. I think our existing and new customers will find fun things to share and give as gifts in a lighthearted and not so serious way.”
We actually cannot wait to see what Lady Gaga’s take on the holiday season will be. Get us to NYC in time for Christmas!

Lea Michele’s new love for fashion and dressing up has come from working on the ‘Glee’ show, according to boss Ryan Murphy.
The creator of Glee says Lea’s blossoming and developing sense of style is down to the confidence she’s gained since playing Rachel Berry on the show. Ryan told American Vogue: “When I met Lea, she was only sort of interested in clothes- but in the last two years she’s become a red-carpet star. I think what happened is Lea went to an event, and someone said, ‘Oh, you look pretty.’ It was an interesting moment for her.”
Lea’s certainly got the red-carpet X Factor, appearing at glitzy events in couture gowns – we always look forward to seeing what the star will be wearing next.
She’s not the only Glee star that has had a bit of an education in fashion since the beginning of the show. Chris Colfer, who plays the impeccably dressed teen Kurt, says that he’s learnt huge amounts from playing his character on the show.
He said: “When Glee started, I had no idea who Marc Jacobs was. In no way was I a fashion person! I did all my shopping at my small-town Target. Maybe if I dressed better I wouldn’t have had such a hard time in school. Now, as Kurt, I get to wear all these amazing things, by people whose names I can’t even pronounce.”

Patricia is most famous for her work styling Sex and The City
The notoriously fabulous Sex and the City stylist Patricia Field advises aspiring fashionistas that good style doesn’t necessarily equal huge amounts of money.
Field says that anyone can have style on a budget; they just need to find the right style to suit them. “Style is not the equivalent of money. Some people have lots of money and no style – some people have no money and lots of style. Style comes from a different choice – it comes from your philosophy and your job patterns and how you feel. I mean my life is very heavily around people much younger than myself. Young people, they don’t have a lot of money but the young people are the ones with the style. Young people have energy, and old people do not – and that energy translates into interests and getting information – and from all of that you can work out your style.”
The stylist says that the key secret to a stylish wardrobe is having a few classic, staple pieces – the pieces depending on the wearer. She said: “In anyone’s wardrobe there are those key pieces for them that they can’t live without. I could talk about myself, or somebody specific, but in general I would say that the more variation that you offer yourself in your wardrobe – the more combinations you will be able to create because you have more options.”
More variety you say? Well in that case, Patricia, I’ll go and max out my Topshop card right now..

Jenny Frost looked pretty and glamorous in her black maxi dress, hanging off Jeff Brazier who looked sweet in a tweed blazer
We always knew that Big Brother would be back, and now that lovely old Channel 5 has bought the show it’s not going to be long until it’s back on the airwaves. Yesterday the press launch party took place in Hertfordshire, with Big Brother’s most famous (and forgotten) faces in attendance.
Naturally, Brian Belo was there – the day he doesn’t come to anything BB related will be the day we die of shock – and he actually looked quite nice yesterday in a crumpled white shirt with some slim-fitting men’s chinos. Another Brian that looked quite lovely was our favourite, Brian Dowling, who looked very dapper and sharp in a two-piece grey men’s suit.
On the girl’s side we had the beautiful TV presenter Emma Willis, who looked fresh and pretty in a polka-dot tea dress with red detailing and red patent heels. Also there was the ex-Atomic Kitten and Snog Marry Avoid? presenter Jenny Frost, who showed off long, tanned pins in a split-skirt black maxi dress, with lots and lots of gold jewellery. Keep up the good work, Jenny.
We must also note that some ex-housemates did not make much of a sterling effort: last series’ Sam Pepper wore scruffy cut-offs, his usual cap and a bright yellow T-shirt. I’m sorry, Sam, but didn’t anyone tell you that this is a glitzy event? BRIAN BELO is here, for god’s sake. 2009′s Marcus Akin was there – you know, the one that looks like a rubbish Wolverine – in a cringey Ed Hardy tee and leather bracelets. No one should wear Ed Hardy when they’re emptying the cat litter tray, let alone going to a press party. Take note Marcus.
To see which housemates were at the launch, check the gallery above.

There were quirky decorations all over the festival, but I was particularly charmed by the beer tent which was adorned with old-fashioned umbrellas, bunting and antique lampshades
Anyone who’s been reading ShinyStyle for a while may remember last year’s post about Farm Festival, an intimate independently-run event in Somerset that marries anarchic creativity with a love for music and not taking yourself too seriously.I’m all for small, intimate events that celebrate creativity and aren’t all about draining your bank balance, so it holds a great lure for me. Farm Festival is one of my favourite events of the year, so naturally I had to come again. This post is a little late but hopefully some of you readers will read about my experience there and want to give it a try next year.
Again a lot of love and care had gone into the event, which was bigger and more inventive than last year. As soon as I’d unpacked and pitched my teepee (the easiest tent to put up ever, apparently, but it still perplexed me) I headed over to the beer tent with my friends to get a pint of Black Rat cider and was struck by the whimsical and charming decorations. The entire ceiling of the tent structure had been decorated with antique lampshades, upside-down umbrellas and school fete-style bunting trailing down the walls. Outside, each dustbin was lovingly hand-painted with patterns of flowers, leaping fish and abstract designs and curious wooden handpainted creatures and objects peeped out of the grass. It is quite a magical place which, thanks to the intimate size of the festival, you can learn like the back of your hand within a couple of hours.
On Saturday I was transported back to the 90s for the headlining act Dodgy, whose hit “Staying Out For The Summer” I’d completely forgotten about (I have pretty much mentally blocked out the 90s) but surprisingly could remember most of the words to. I am ashamed to admit that I didn’t spend nearly as much time this year checking out the live acts – but that was only because I was running around in their mysterious Lazer Cave tent and dutty winding in the Dubstep tent. I don’t even like dub that much but Farm Festival’s dub tent is probably one of the most fun places in the world, I’d regularly drive to Bruton to go.
As usual I hit the vintage stalls pretty sharpish with my boyfriend and friends to hunt for ridiculously OTT glitzy clothes to wear in the evening. The prices had gone up a little this year but so had the quality of the vintage, so it’s a fair trade off. I dithered for a long time between a white neon-printed pair of city shorts, an achingly beautiful pair of old men’s brogues and a gold brocade wedding dress – naturally in the end I chose the gold brocade dress, priced at £16, which I wore all weekend until I was told to take it off.
The hats were, again, quite spectacular. I saw a lot of boys cavorting with their T-shirts off wearing Viking horns and wolf hats (perhaps they think it justifies silly behaviour?) while the girls opted for romantic flower garlands, wide-brimmed straw hats and vintage pillbox hats. Also brilliant were the gallant face-painters, who did particularly excellent tiger facepaint and painted my face like a magic kitten for two pounds.
If you want to see for yourself a few snapshots of my FarmFest experience, check out the gallery above. It’s been a brilliant highlight of my summer.
