Although some may say she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth we say her classic and sophisticated designs are enough to make her stand out in our top five. Anthony Devlin/PA Wire

We love a bit of Brit fashion and always have some staple pieces from key designers in our wardrobes.

However, we’ve never really paid homage to those who have made a name for the UK on the fashion map. We’ve therefore decided that today is the day we do so and come up with a list of our top five Brit designers who we think have really made an impact.

Dame Vivienne Westwood gets a mention for her long service to the fashion world and for giving us shocking Highland and punk trends, while Christopher Bailey also makes it into the list for turning the Burberry brand into a modern name we all want to get our hands on.

Yes the classic trenches are still there but there’s also leathers and snakeskins and so much more. Stella McCartney gets into the list for her classic and sophisticated designs, while a top five couldn’t be done without hat designer Philip Treacey who has made headwear and headpeices popular, designing for both the royals and celebrities such as Lady Gaga.
Finally a mention goes out to Alexander McQueen..need we say more?
Keep reading for a spotlight on these designer’s fashions over the next few days.
