Replicas of Bella Swan’s Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 wedding dress go on sale

By Andrea Petrou on November 24th, 2011

Replicas of Bella Swan’s Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 wedding dress have gone on sale.

The Carolina Herrera designed gown – worn by actress Kristen Stewart in the movie – provided the inspiration for the $799 dress adapted by designer Michael Shettel for the collaboration between Summit Entertainment and bridal retailer Alfred Angelo and Michael admitted keeping the price down was a struggle.

He said: “There were pricing issues to try to get it down to $799. That was the biggest issue more than design issues.”

The dress features liquid satin instead of the silk used on the gown worn by Bella when she married her vampire love Edward Cullen in the film.

Carolina is also set to sell gowns which follow the same design as Bella’s dress at her CHNY boutique and the designer recently revealed Kristen found trying on the dress for the first time an emotional experience.

She told Vogue.co.uk: “In the initial fitting when Kristen put the dress on and looked in the mirror, she was very moved. In that moment she was not an actress or a character in a film, she was a bride, and a happy one at that. It is always very important to make the bride happy, of course, and in this case I was delighted to do so. It was a very special moment for both Kristen and the character of Bella to share.

“A wedding dress is both an intimate and personal for a woman – it must reflect the personality and style of the bride. Bella’s dress is romantic and filled with a timeless sophistication, very similar to the character. In a way, this dress served as a symbol of the character’s coming of age and introduction into womanhood.”

Alexander McQueen’s McQ to show at LFW

By Andrea Petrou on November 24th, 2011

McQ will show for the first time at London Fashion Week in February 2012.

The Alexander McQueen diffusion line’s catwalk show of their autumn/winter 2012-13 collection will serve as a preview for the label’s debut store opening later in the year.

McQ are to open a store carrying womenswear, menswear and accessories in a Georgian townhouse in London’s exclusive Mayfair district.

Yesterday, it was announced that Stella McCartney will also show for the first time at London Fashion Week.

The British designer will showcase a “one off special fashion presentation” on February 18 ahead of an assault on the British capital which will see her launch a ‘World of Stella’ exhibition of Selfridges, a new fragrance launch, and the opening of a second store.

However, she will then present her new collection in Paris, France as she has done for the past decade.

Alexander McQueen – who was known as Lee to friends – committed suicide in February 2010 but his successor Sarah Burton recently revealed the company still runs as if he were alive.

She explained: “Lee used to always say that you have to know all the rules to be able to break them.

“We have an open studio, so a big room, and it’s very visual. On the wall, there are just hundreds of images from all different kinds of periods and fabrics. Lee taught me to do things in a three-dimensional way.”

Katy Perry says new fragrance Meow is more “edible” than her first

By Andrea Petrou on November 24th, 2011

Katy Perry’s latest fragrance is “more edible” than her first scent.

The I Kissed A Girl singer – who is currently on her ‘California Dreams’ world tour – thinks her latest perfume Meow, a follow up to her debut smell Purr, is the “perfect snapshot” of her busy life which currently consists of playing gigs worldwide.

She told People: “The first fragrance (Purr) was more floral, by a long while, and this one is a lot more edible.

“It’s the perfect snapshot of where my head is right now, especially being on tour.”

The brunette beauty wants to “make memories” with her latest scent – which is made up of honeysuckle and pear, with a base of vanilla, musk and amber – by creating an iconic scent so people will remember where they were when they smelt it.

She added: “I think that you can hear a song, and it’ll take you back to that moment, or that person, or that time in your life.

“Same thing with your sense of smell – it’s really powerful. So I thought I could make memories with people with Purr or Meow.”

The 27-year-old stunner got the idea for the pink, cat-shaped bottle of her Meow perfume from going to local markets when was younger.

She explained: “I grew up going to flea markets, and all the vintage stores and the Rose Bowl in Los Angeles. I’d always look for milk glass – that beautiful, vintage milk glass that held candles, or salt and pepper. I definitely wanted to use it for Meow.”

Tilda Swinton joins a host of celebrities to auction their handbags for charity

By Andrea Petrou on November 24th, 2011

Tilda Swinton has joined a host of celebrities to auction their handbags for charity.

The generous We Need To Talk About Kevin star has donated two designer handbags, one from Chanel and another by Victor & Rolf to Save the Children’s ‘Bag to Save a Life’ appeal which will launch tomorrow.

Encouraging people to get involved, Tilda said: “Bid high! Bid so much higher than you think you will or can! Think of a dicey number and double it. And then double that. No fancy bag can ever carry what your generosity will mean to the children it will help to live.

“Make this beautiful object truly valuable by investing real money in real life – and carry the evidence with pride. Don’t count the cost. Think of it as paying something back for all there is to be grateful for in your days.”

Other celebrities including Sienna Miller, Florence Welch, Gemma Arterton, Georgia May Jagger, Annie Lennox, Minnie Driver and Anna Friel have also given a selection of designer handbags from Christian Louboutin, Mulberry, Jimmy Choo, Miu Miu, Prada to the appeal.

The Bag to Save a Life online auction is part of the No Child Born to Die campaign to stop the deaths of more than eight million children in some of the world’s poorest countries every year.

The online auction is live from tomorrow and will close on Sunday December 4th. Visit www.savethechildren.org.uk/bagtosave to place a bid.

eBay launches Christmas boutique with QR code shopping

By shinychris on November 24th, 2011

ebay-image.jpgOver the past few years we’ve seen QR codeseverywhere, on foodclothes and evengravestones. Yes, we said gravestones.

Well this Christmas, we’ll be seeing hundreds of them on all kinds of clothes, gifts and furniture items, as online marketplace eBay intends to use them to make shopping even easier in its festive pop-up shop.

The brand is launching a new Christmas boutique in London at the beginning of December, which aims to give stressed shoppers the best of both worlds, the in-store browsing experience with the selection, deals and distinct lack of queuing we’ve become accustomed to online.

The new boutique will stock a range of items and each will have its own unique QR code. Shoppers then use their phones to scan these QR codes to buy without the fuss, queuing, tills and even bags, because once you’ve purchased something it’ll get delivered straight to your door. Goodbye awkward tube journey with 5,487,823 bags and no air!

eBay’s new shopping concept seems like a brilliant idea, it gives us peace of mind that the items we’re buying actually look good in real life and it’s popping up (sorry) just in time for Christmas. However, just like buying things with a store card sometimes doesn’t feel real, buying things by swiping your phone around like you’re a little kid playing shop might not seem real too, so be careful you don’t overdo it.

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was an “Ugly Betty” as a teenager

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley was an “Ugly Betty” as a teenager.

The 24-year-old British beauty is widely considered to be one of the sexiest women in the world but when she was growing up she admits she resembled the spectacle and brace wearing character Betty Suarez from the TV series.

Speaking in the new issue of America’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine, she said: “I was a bit of an Ugly Betty when I was 15.”

Rosie revealed she would arrive at castings “in trainers, with braids, a ton of make-up, plucked eyebrows and I had braces”.

The catwalk star – who is dating Jason Statham – recently made the transition from modelling to acting with a main role in ‘Transformers: Dark of the Moon’ and she admits she initially found it difficult to adjust to the movie business.

She said: “It’s interesting coming from modelling, where women rule the industry, into one where there are so few great female parts and the competition is so much higher.”

Rosie is very proud of her first screen role, but she admits she still takes immense satisfaction from being a Victoria’s Secret Angel, because being a face for the underwear giant is one of the biggest jobs in modelling.

She said: “It’s still such a huge thing for a model. People kind of laugh about it and think it’s irrelevant, but I don’t know a girl in the world who would put those wings on and not feel, just for a split second, very special.”

Emily Blunt loves the evocative smell of YSL Opium

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Emily Blunt agreed to become the face and ambassadress for Yves Saint Laurent’s Opium fragrance because fragrances “evoke” so many memories for people.

The ‘Devil Wears Prada’ actress will star in the new TV and print campaigns for the “evocative” scent – which was created by perfumer Jean-Louis Sieuzac in 1977 – and Emily revealed she loves fragrances because scent is so important to her.

She explained to People: “I think really that’s what I love most about it – it evokes so much for people. Everyone always says they’ve smelled something, and remember this beautiful memory they experienced maybe many years ago. There’s something very powerful about it.”

Emily’s new advertising campaign for the brand – where she plays a woman on the hunt for the Opium fragrance – will air in December and Emily revealed she was thrilled to play a role rather than simply pose with the product.

She said: “It was thrilling. I was given a story to play, and for me as an actress that’s very exciting. I’m not just posing or just trying to sell something.”

Speaking about the perfume previously she said: “”It is a really exciting experience to embody this legendary fragrance, which has stood the test of time without its allure ever being diminished. Being a part of this new campaign and being able to tell the story of this very evocative fragrance is a real thrill.”

Renaud de Lesquen, president of YSL & Designer Brands, explained the new campaign will portray “a fiery, almost reckless woman with magnetic seduction, that nobody or nothing can resist”.

He added: “Opium embraces the whole history and values of our house.”

Stella McCartney to show at London Fashion Week for the first time in 2012.

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Stella McCartney will show at London Fashion Week for the first time in 2012.

Meanwhile, dates for the ‘Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs’ exhibition at Les Arts Decoratifs in Paris have been announced.

The celebration of the long-running collaboration between the designer and the French leather goods firm will begin on March 6, the day before Paris Fashion Week wraps up and is set to run until September 16.

Despite being linked with a move to Christian Dior to take over from disgraced designer John Galliano, Marc recently revealed he has no plans to leave Louis Vuitton because he enjoys considerable freedom with the company.

He explained: “I could never do this anywhere else. It’s not just a Paris thing – Vuitton allows me. It’s really, really something I feel particularly proud of and am grateful to the team for. We’ve all worked really hard and gone through a lot to get this to where it is now and we’re starting to see results.”

Rihanna collaborates with Armani on new fashion range

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Rihanna has unveiled her debut fashion line.

The ‘We Found Love’ hitmaker has created a capsule collection for Emporio Armani Underwear and Armani Jeans – both of whom she already fronts advertising campaigns for – comprising of denim and lingerie featuring her R logo and the fashion house’s signature eagle.

The collection includes biker jackets, a canvas rucksack, two styles of jeans – skinny and tight boys cut – t-shirts emblazoned with silhouettes of the singer’s face or animal print designs and lace underwear that come in navy blue and pearl grey.

Rihanna has previously revealed she likes to shock people with her fashion choices.

Talking about her future look, she said: “I probably see a lot of menswear, or something extremely, extremely feminine. But I like to play with both. It would have to be so extreme that it’s a look, because I don’t usually like typical ladylike, girly-girly stuff. It would be a look if I were to do it. I always like something that’s a little off, so it’s just not typical or expected.”

Gwen Stefani asks kids for fashion advice

By Andrea Petrou on November 23rd, 2011

Gwen Stefani asked her children for advice on her new kids’ clothing line.

The No Doubt singer – who has two kids, Kingston, five, and two-year-old Zuma with singer Gavin Rossdale – loved the “creative” stage of designing her Harajuku Mini for Target children’s range, which includes biker jackets, skinny jeans, trainers, and backpacks – and she even got some assistance from her own youngsters.

She said: “My kids have a big opinion about it.

“I’m just excited. I think that moms’ are going to walk into Target and lose their minds – ‘Are you serious right now? And it’s $20? All right, I’m taking five.’

“I feel really proud of it. It’s fun to be creative. It’s fun to bake the cookies and have everyone eat them. It’s a great feeling.”

The blonde beauty – whose first fashion line, L.A.M.B., which consisted of shoes, watches and bags, debuted in 2003 – wanted her children’s brand to have a similar style to her signature looks over the years, but she still can’t believe the range has finally come to fruition.

She added to Access Hollywood: “I’ve been working on this thing for almost three years. So, for me, it’s like really surreal that it’s actually happening.

“I really wanted to do this so bad. Being able to make stuff for the right price point and get it out there so people can actually have access to it. This is like the ideal situation to have. It’s really exciting.

“This is really cute and really wearable. It’s so fun-the first time I went in for the fittings, and they brought out all the little mannequins-they actually have diapers on them! When you’re fitting, you’re fitting with a diaper.

“I wanted it to look like all of my signature looks that I’ve done through the years, kind of for children. I wanted to bring fashion to kids.”
