Christmas party outfit ideas: Top five silver dresses

By Andrea Petrou on November 21st, 2011

There’s four weeks until Christmas and we can’t wait. However before we get to eat that turkey and those pigs in blankets there’s a whole range of Christmas parties to get through and that means scouting the highstreet for that perfect outfit.

One hot trend this year is silver. A big hit on the red carpet this hue can be fashioned into a whole range of styles from plain satin to sequined numbers.

Channel the animal print look with a sequined printed number or go for something a little bit more daring with a metallic boob tube dress.

Those wishing to look that little bit more classic can also go for a vintage number. Grab those black heels and a black clutch bag and you’re ready to go.

Cheryl Cole learnt the “hard way” with her fashion choices

By Andrea Petrou on November 21st, 2011

Cheryl Cole says she learnt the “hard way” with her fashion choices.

The Fight for This Love singer has experience a few style disasters over the years but has now accepted what suits her and what doesn’t.

She said: “It’s hard to know how to dress sometimes. I learnt the hard way that, just because something looks nice on someone else, it doesn’t mean it’ll work for your height, size and figure. I tried and failed miserably in my teenage years, but now I know to take things as inspiration and adapt them to work for me.”

While Cheryl, 28, enjoys wearing different clothes, she hates going shopping for them and would prefer to buy stuff online.

She told Britain’s InStyle magazine: “When you go in the dressing rooms, why do they always have the worst lighting. You come away feeling down, you don’t buy anything and it’s actually not what you look like. And the mirrors! I think they should spend more time and money on them.”

5 Nordic inspired cardigans for winter

By Elisabeth on November 18th, 2011

I love my Nordic knitwear! OK so maybe it’s because I’m Scandinavian and therefore grew up wearing thick, woolly knits to keep warm during harsh and cold winters… But what’s not to love?!

So you can imagine how excited I am that the UK has jumped on the Nordic knitwear wave, with most of the shops offering one item or more so that we can all get our Nordic fix. There are also the Fair Isle patterns to consider – most of which really look extremely similar to Nordic ones. Either way they all come from the Vikings and the Norse explorers.

All wrapped up - £45

Twilight Breaking Down London premiere: Kristen Stewart and TOWIE’s Lauren Pope in a fashion off

By Elisabeth on November 17th, 2011

And guess who won with one gigantic knock-out? Kristen Stewart. No. Doubt.

Film premieres and red carpets bring out the best – and worst – in the fashion world, and last night’s Twilight: Breaking Dawn premiere in London was no exception. The vampire films’ leading lady, Kristen Stewart – who plays Bella Swan in the films – graced the red carpet in a full-length black halterneck Roberto Cavalli gown which she wore with an oversized Alexander McQueen leather belt, black peep toe heels and sexy, dark glamorous eye make-up.

And then there was TOWIE’s Lauren Pope. Essex girl Lauren looked like she’d left half of her dress at home, sporting a red dress that was split all the way down on one side… Lucky the premiere was indoors at Westfield Stratford, because the tiniest breeze could have made for very interesting events – and photographs…

London’s V&A to host exhibition of most glamorous ballgowns since 1950

By Elisabeth on November 17th, 2011

London’s Victoria and Albert museum is to host an exhibition of some of fashion’s most-famous dresses next year.

Ballgowns: British Glamour since 1950 will see dresses worn by the likes of late Diana, Princess of Wales and actresses Elizabeth Hurley and Sandra Bullock take center stage. With designs dating back to the early fifties, these famous frocks will have been seen on celebrities as they walked the red carpet at film premieres as well as the British Fashion Awards and the Golden Globes.

The exhibition will run from 19 May 2012 to 6 January 2013, and will showcase designs by Dame Vivienne Westwood, the late Alexander McQueen, John Galliano and Norman Hartnell. The latter has created pieces for both Queen Elizabeth and the Queen Mother and the McQueen label was, as we all know, behind the stunning wedding dress worn by Kate Middleton as she joined the royal family in April.

Other dresses in the exhibition include designs worn by Bianca Jagger and Sandra Bullock.

ShinyStyle loves: Triumph Vintage Collection lingerie to mark the brands’ 125th anniversary

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

It’s been 125 years since Triumph made its mark in the lingerie sector and what a century it’s been.
We’ve seen underwires, corsets, plunge bras and of course little undies come from this brand.

However, for the next few months Triumph is going back to its roots.

To mark its 125 year anniversary it’s launched its vintage collection, which basically does what it says on the tin. In other words it’s a collection of vintage-inspired corsets, bras and knickers that celebrate the nipped-in waists and high-waisted styling of the past.

We heart the bits available and will most definitely be buying some from this limited edition range.

Bar Refaeli to model her own range for her Undeez brand

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Bar Refaeli will model her own innerwear line when it launches in January.

The Israeli-born supermodel has created a range of items to be worn close to the skin including undershirts, tights and camisoles for her new brand Undeez and Bar insisted all items from the comfortable basics line were personally approved by her.

She said: “We have professional designers, of course, but my ideas and input go into every single item. I try everything before it’s manufactured. I choose the fabric and have the last word on the items.”

The collection, which is targeting the affordable to midrange price segment, is aimed at people age 25 to 45.

Before posing for the brand in January, Bar will most likely increase her workouts as she has previously revealed she makes sure to do extra exercise if she’s got a big shoot coming up.

She said: “I always want to look my best on a shoot, or for a fashion show, so I do an extra couple of sit-ups the night before and I drink hot water with lemon to get my metabolism kick-started in the morning and to cleanse my system, but I don’t do anything crazy.

“There’s nothing worse than forcing yourself to spend hours in the gym when you don’t enjoy it, so I do all sorts of things to work out because I get bored easily.”

Twilight Saga cast don’t all get on says Nikki Reed

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Nikki Reed has admitted the Twilight Saga cast don’t all get along.

The 23-year-old actress – who plays Rosalie Hale in the vampire movie franchise – admits the dynamic between the actors has changed from when they started out on the first movie, ‘Twilight’, in 2008 to recent filming on ‘The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Parts I and II’ and she doesn’t plan to stay in touch with everyone.

She said: “In the beginning, it was innocent and fun, and we were like one big happy family – it was like being at sleepaway camp. And then success comes along and changes the dynamic. We’re not all best friends, and we’re not all going to hang out together after the final movie is done.”

Nikki – who stars in the ‘Twilight Saga’ series alongside actors including Kristen Stewart, Robert Pattinson, Kellan Lutz and Taylor Lautner – shot to fame in 2003 when she wrote and starred in ‘Thirteen’ and the brunette beauty found the movie gave people incorrect ideas about her personality and work ethic.

She explained to the new issue of Seventeen magazine: “I got typecast as a party girl when ‘Thirteen’ first came out. The funny thing was, I was a virgin, I didn’t do drugs, and I barely drank.”

Victoria Beckham asks for 25 percent discount supermarket card

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Victoria Beckham asked for a 25 percent discount card when she went supermarket shopping.

The fashion designer – who, along with soccer star husband David, is worth a reported £160 million – was buying goods from Los Angeles store Ralph’s over the weekend and before she went to pay, she asked her bodyguard to give his details to a shop assistant so they could get money off.

Victoria, who was also accompanied by four-month-old daughter Harper, spent 20 minutes on the shop and picked up toilet paper, pretzels and a thank you card and staff were impressed with how grounded she was.

One Ralph’s employee is quoted by the Daily Star newspaper: “We loved having Victoria in the store. All the staff were going crazy when she left. She was really nice and very down to earth. We were shocked when she asked for a 25 per cent discount card but it’s nice to see she’s just as normal as everyone else, though.

“We were all falling around with laughter as she could afford to buy everything in this shop in one fell swoop.”

However, the 37-year-old star – who also has three sons, Brooklyn, 12, Romeo, nine, and six-year-old Cruz, with David – isn’t as frugal when it comes to shopping for her children.

The former Spice Girls star is currently in New York with baby Harper and the mother and daughter duo were spotted splashing the cash in the city’s iconic toy store FAO Schwarz.

Alice Temperley picks up the Designer of the Year gong at the Hollywood Style Awards

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Alice Temperley picked up the Designer of the Year gong at the Hollywood Style Awards in Los Angeles on Sunday.

The British designer – who won worldwide praise for the emerald green gown she created for Pippa Middleton for the royal wedding reception in April – revealed her delight at winning the award just weeks after Queen Elizabeth presented her with an MBE.

After being presented with the prize by British actress Alice Eve, she said: “It was amazing to go into Buckingham Palace and meet Queen Elizabeth and now the flattery of being on the other side of the planet being honoured for what we do especially when you work so bloody hard . it’s a big compliment.”

The stars turned out in force to celebrate the artists who help them to look good including hair stylists, makeup artists, colourists, wardrobe stylists and photographers.

Presenting snapper Randall Slavin with his Photographer of the Year award, Eva Longoria said: “If it was up to me I’d have the whole world see me how Randall Slavin does. He has the ability to make a girl look persuasive and fierce and fragile and delicate and a million other things that you never thought could be possible.”

Dita Von Teese thinks she has a classic look

By Andrea Petrou on November 16th, 2011

Dita Von Teese thinks her look will “work at any age”.

The 39-year-old burlesque model explained she had an “epiphany” at a recent shoot, and discovered she can still maintain her “classy” style when she gets older, as her hair, make-up and clothing choices have become like a “uniform” to her.

She said: “I was doing a photo shoot and the make-up artist had made me up to have grey hair but I was still wearing the same clothes and had the same make-up. I was scanning me in the mirror and I just had this epiphany that I was perfect – I looked like a classy, old lady.

“I won’t have to change my look when I get older, it’ll work at any age. I’m not sure what Paris Hilton will be wearing when she gets to 70.

“My look is like a uniform to me, I know each morning what I’ll be doing with my make-up and hair, how long my hem line will be. I like to evolve my look, but I don’t feel compelled to update it.”

However, the raven-haired beauty – who has appeared in campaigns for the likes of Jean Paul Gaultier and Vivienne Westwood in the past – admitted she isn’t naturally blessed with a trim figure and “works hard” to look so glamorous.

Dita added in an interview with Vogue.co.uk: “I don’t try to tell people I’m naturally anything, I’m not going to tell you that I eat pizza all day and look like this – I don’t.

“I work hard to maintain a glamorous look, and to tell women that they can achieve it too. We all want to have a plump, juicy and luscious figures – I just try hard to stay fit.”
