Emma Watson and Justin Bieber’s most influential haircuts of 2011

By shinychris on December 29th, 2011

Emma Watson's haircut was most influential of 2011

Emma Watson and Justin Bieber had the most influential haircuts of 2011. The ‘Harry Potter’ actress’ pixie crop and the ‘Never Say Never’ hitmaker’s ‘swish’ style have been hugely popular with fans over the past 12 months, with hairdressers all over the world being inundated with requests for something similar.

The Wall Street Journal reported: “Hairstylists are being inundated with requests. The enthusiasm plays out online, where the fastest-rising searches for celebrity haircuts on Google are for Ms. Watson and Mr. Bieber.”

According to the paper, these looks mark a pretty significant change for hairstyle popularity, since for women, “short hair hasn’t been trendy since the ’90s” and because men “may justifiably feel sheepish about asking for the cut”.

Other important stylish events over 2011 included Kim Kardashian’s doomed wedding to Kris Humphries, Kanye West’s Paris Fashion Week debut and the nuptials of Britain’s Prince William and Duchess Catherine in April.

Emma, 21, had her hair cut at the end of last year and said it was a way of entering a “new phase” in her life as she had finished playing Hermione Granger in the ‘Harry Potter’ film franchise.

She said: “I’m 20 now, so I’m not a child any more. I’ve been on ‘Harry Potter’ for ten years now, so I felt the need to mark the end of it in some way – I needed some way to say to myself, ‘Right, you’re entering a new phase of your life now’. I needed a change, and that’s what the haircut is about.”

Sarah Burton is “glad” she agreed to take over as Alexander McQueen’s creative director

By Andrea Petrou on December 23rd, 2011

Sarah Burton is “glad” she agreed to take over as Alexander McQueen’s creative director.

The designer – who was given the coveted role following the tragic suicide of the label’s founder Alexander McQueen in February 2010 – says she was initially unsure about doing the job, but looking back, she is pleased she did.

She said: “He was such a genius; inspiring and funny and an incredible man. I could never pretend to be him but when I look back now, I’m glad that I took the job – because it kept the studio alive in his spirit, and it kept the team together. Because what did he work so hard for all those years if it was all just going to disappear?”

Sarah – who created Duchess Catherine’s wedding dress when she married Prince William in April – recently said she regards the Alexander McQueen team to be “like a family” feels “privileged” to be part of the brand.

She said: “Every day, I love what I do and I think it’s a gift and privilege to love your job. The McQueen team is like family.

“We are so passionate about what we do and it’s so important that we have established a couture-standard atelier in Britain.”

Naya Rivera was distraught when she developed acne at 24

By Andrea Petrou on December 23rd, 2011

Naya Rivera was distraught when she developed acne at 24.

The ‘Glee’ beauty – who is the new face of spot solution Proactive – admits she found having bad skin tough, but now she is “fixed” of the problem she is feeling more confident than ever.

She said: “I had really bad skin for a while earlier this year. It sort of just came out of nowhere. It was like adult acne, and I was like. ‘I’ve had great skin my entire life. How am I dealing with this now at 24?’

“It was pretty embarrassing going to work every day and having to be on camera and having the make-up artists be like, ‘Oh what’s going?’ My ‘Glee’ co-stars were really supportive. I would go around and talk about it. It was a point of insecurity for me. But I’m glad I got it fixed, I’ll say that.”

She also reveals she approached the company as she wanted to share her success story with the product.

She told People: “I used Proactiv and it really did work for me. It helped me out, so I got in contact with the company and told them I would love to share my story.

“So I showed them photos and they said, ‘This is great.’ Wait till people see my pictures. That’s all I have to say. I definitely have the photos to prove [I had a problem].”

Kate Moss teaming up with her nine-year-old daughter to create a girls’ clothing range

By Andrea Petrou on December 23rd, 2011

Kate Moss is teaming up with her nine-year-old daughter to create a girls’ clothing range.

The supermodel and little Lila Grace are working with British high street store Debenhams on a range of “funky tweenage” designs, due for release in summer 2012.

A source told the Daily Mirror newspaper: “Lila has always loved trying on Kate’s clothes and make-up, and is already really into fashion.

“It was mainly all her idea and Kate obviously agreed to help out as much as possible, using her contacts to land the duo a deal.

“Lila is adamant the range will be very traditional and English rose-esque in feel. Lila doesn’t want to produce chavvy clothes.

“The collaboration was actually inspired by Kate’s mates, Jemima French and Sadie Frost’s new FrostFrench ‘Iris and Edie’ capsule range of sleepwear after their daughters got involved.

“Kate and Lila Grace will get cracking on designs over the festive period, mulling over ideas at Kate’s Cotswolds’ pad.”

Kate – who wed husband Jamie Hince in July – recently revealed Lila is quite “prudish” and will often tell her mother off when she doesn’t take off her make-up.

She said: “I always take my make-up off, because otherwise my daughter will come in and say, ‘Mummy, tut-tut’. She doesn’t like it. She likes the fresh-faced, natural mummy, when I’ve got my hair in a bun and no make-up on.

“Lila is quite prudish – she’ll only wear a little bit of lip gloss or something. But she is into nail art. I think Lila is beautiful – she’s so innocent and has that fresh face. She’s gorgeous, but obviously she is my daughter.”

Cheryl Cole accepts the fact that she’ll never have a supermodel’s figure

By Andrea Petrou on December 23rd, 2011

Cheryl Cole has accepted the fact she will never have a supermodel’s figure.

The Fight for This Love singer is regularly voted one of the world’s sexiest women but she says she will never be blessed with the figure and height of someone like Gisesle Bundchen.

She said: “We all want to look like Gisele and look good in those sparkly leggings and then we wear them and don’t look good in them because that’s Gisele’s shape. We have to accept – well I have to accept – that I’m never going to be 6ft 2in. When you do that and start to dress for yourself and wear what makes you feel good, then you start to feel comfortable. It’s important to figure that out.”

Cheryl, 28, recently said she learnt the “hard way” with her fashion choices and has now accepted what suits her and what doesn’t.

She said: “It’s hard to know how to dress sometimes. I learnt the hard way that, just because something looks nice on someone else, it doesn’t mean it’ll work for your height, size and figure. I tried and failed miserably in my teenage years, but now I know to take things as inspiration and adapt them to work for me.”

Kelly Rowland plans to “eat, eat, eat” over the festive season

By Andrea Petrou on December 21st, 2011

Kelly Rowland plans to “eat, eat, eat” over the festive season.

The ‘Down for Whatever’ singer has been based in the UK while judging pop star search show ‘The X Factor’ in recent months but now the TV series is over, she is looking forward to a family Christmas in the US.

She said: “I’m going to eat, eat, eat. I love to cook so I’ll probably make some sweet potatoes and my mama cooks amazing food.

“I’m just looking forward to spending time doing nothing with the people that I love. My mama has really missed me being around.”

Kelly is particularly looking forward to taking time out to be with the younger members of her family, because they get so excited during the holidays.

She added: “I’ve been so busy this year with my album and ‘The X Factor’ and touring, so it’ll be nice to spend time with my nieces and nephews.”

Kelly will be particularly looking forward to eating over Christmas because she usual sticks to a healthy eating plan and rigorous exercise regime to stay slim.

She previously said: “I work out every other day at least. If you don’t then I don’t think you see the rewards. Even if you can get 30 minutes of cardio in every other day you’ll see a big change in yourself.

“I am a big believer in keeping the body toned and there’s a great diet called the 80/20 diet, which means you make sure 80 per cent of the stuff you eat is good and the other 20 per cent is your choice. It’s great.”

Pregnant Beyonce bans Christmas TV

By Andrea Petrou on December 21st, 2011

Beyonce Knowles’ house is a “no-TV zone” over the festive period.

The ‘Halo’ hitmaker is currently expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z and the couple are both so busy during the year that they prefer to focus on quality family time over Christmas rather than relaxing in front of the TV.

Beyonce said: “I will be with family. We are both so busy throughout the year that Christmas is just a time to relax with family and count the many blessings in your life.

“Christmas Day is a no-TV zone. We just like to sit and talk together as a family.”

Although she refused to reveal what she will buy her husband, the singer can’t wait to purchase lots of gifts for their unborn baby.

She said: “I can’t say, it has to be a surprise! Seriously, though, we both keep seeing super-cute stuff for the baby, so I am sure even our presents for each other will involve the baby in some way!

“Also Kelly [Rowland] has been so busy buying gifts for the baby, I think she might forget to buy for me this year! She is always seeing cute gifts for the baby in London.”

Rihanna is a big fan of CND Shellac manicures

By Andrea Petrou on December 21st, 2011

Rihanna: Taken up belly dancing to keep fit

Rihanna is a big fan of CND Shellac manicures.

The ‘We Found Love’ hitmaker has reportedly favoured the long-enduring nail treatment – a four step process that cures under a UV lamp and gives a chip-resistant finish for up to two weeks – since they launched last year.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “Rihanna was one of the very first celebrity fans of CND Shellac! She even wore CND Wildfire Shellac in the music video for Eminem’s ‘I Love The Way You Lie’.”

In Milan last week, Rihanna was treated by CND VIP manicurist for Milan’s Ladybird House Flavia Pitton, who used CND Retention+ Liquid and CND Retention+ Powder to build a strong base before topping it off with a jet-black colour called Black Pool.

The manicurist told Us Weekly magazine: “”I love the easy application and the ‘just like polish’ appeal that make CND Shellac’d nails always so chic, even when you go for a trendy design.”

Rihanna takes her beauty regime seriously and even had a 2am emergency bikini wax earlier this year when shooting a music video in Belfast, Northern Ireland,

A source said: “Rihanna arrived at her hotel very late and the first thing she wanted was a bikini wax. The video shoot was scheduled for the following morning so she didn’t have much time.

“Her assistants got on the case quickly and called some beauticians after finding a directory on the web. It was relief all round when they finally managed to find someone.”

Gisele Bundchen has been confirmed as the new face of Givenchy.

By Andrea Petrou on December 21st, 2011

Gisele Bundchen has been confirmed as the new face of Givenchy.

The Brazilian supermodel appears in the latest campaign for the French fashion house, confirming months of rumours she was taking over from Mariacarla Boscono.

Gisele’s first ad is in “the expression of a love story between a surfer and a mermaid” and she stars alongside two male models (Chris Moore and Simone Nobili) in a gothic, beach-side spread with big, black surfboards.

Earlier this year, Gisele was named the world’s top earning model for the seventh year.

The 31-year-old beauty has topped the list, compiled by Forbes.com, since 2004, but this year saw her income increase by a huge $20 million to earn $45million over one year.

Proof of Gisele’s star status enhancing brands is easy to find, as after becoming the face of hair care brand Pantene in March 2010, the company’s sales went up by 40 per cent in Latin America.

Heidi Klum – who earned $20 million through her recent partnership with website Amazon.com and launching her own clothing line with sportswear brand New Balance – came second followed by Kate Moss in third.
