Designer New Year’s eve outfit inspiration: Snake Print

By Andrea Petrou on December 19th, 2011

Love it or loathe it snakeprint has slithered from associations with Scary Spice and  ‘Ender’s Kat Slater into this season, making it one of the hottest trends to be seen it.

Prada showcased this print in its AW 2011 catwalk in the shape of shoes, plastic garish coats mixed with fur, while Chloe showed off something that little bit more subtle with this trend appearing in floaty chiffon frocks.

Go for the bright look – we’re talking pinks, blues and oranges – shown at Angelo Marani, keep it subtle with creams or go all out with 70s inspired snakeprint trousers.

Whatever you choose you’ll be bang on this season’s trend.

See the gallery below for all the designer inspiration.

With the winter weather and party season in full swing, capes are a great alternative to that thick coat.

Lindsay Lohan given glowing probation report

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2011

Lindsay Lohan was given a glowing probation report during her court hearing yesterday.

The ‘Mean Girls’ actress – who has been working at the Los Angeles County Morgue as part of her sentence for breaking her probation in relation to a 2007 DUI (driving under the influence) case – was praised by Judge Stephanie Sautner for the way she has behaved and got on with her court-ordered work.

When discussing Lindsay’s community service hours, Sautner praised the 25-year-old star for having “done it not only on time, but early. You did the 12 days and you completed it early”.

She then told Lindsay, who returned to Los Angeles after holidaying in Hawaii: “You’re doing well. I’d like to see it continue.

“Do more days a month and then we can end this in February, possibly.”

Lindsay must complete another 12 days of duty at the morgue and three therapy sessions by her next court date on January 17 2012.

The judge also gave Lindsay permission to leave the state of California if she completes her 12 days of duty early.

She said: “Any month you’ve completed 12 days early, you can travel,” she said. “For pleasure, for any purpose…to go to a spa, whatever she wants to do. Whatever anyone else is allowed to do.”

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were very “proud” of themselves after cooking their family Thanksgiving dinner.

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2011

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were very “proud” of themselves after cooking their family Thanksgiving dinner.

The Hollywood couple – who raise six children, Maddox, 10, Pax, eight, Zahara, six, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne, together – says they decided not to hire any help for last month’s holiday and wanted to do everything themselves, including cooking the turkey.

She told TV interviewer Anderson Cooper: “Brad and I decided we were actually going to make the turkey and we were very successful and very proud of ourselves.

“This was just the two of us with the kids watching trying to pretend we knew exactly what we were doing.”

Angelina says eating as a family is important to her and they try to do it as often as possible.

She said: “We actually have family dinner every night,” Jolie explained. “We make a point of it. It’s crazy. There’s a good five minutes were everybody is quiet and sitting together and then it starts to break off.”

Angelina also revealed how all the children love to travel around the world and are comfortable wherever they go.

She said: “Fortunately, my kids love to travel. they’re very worldly. What I love is that they can be in New York in a hotel in Manhattan and think it’s so cool, and then I can bring them to the middle of Kenya and drop them in a tent with no TV and no nothing, and they’re just as happy.

“That’s what we are trying to do to balance them.”

Cheryl Cole compares her style to a “spaceship”.

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2011

Cheryl Cole has compared her style to a “spaceship”.

The Parachute hitmaker admits her fashion choices change from day to day as she likes to try out different looks.

Asked to sum up her personal style, she said: “One day I want to be a hippy and the next day I want to be like a spaceship and then I want to be normal. So it’s different.”

Cheryl has recently created her first shoe line for website Stylistpick and admitted she is considering branching out into handbags in the future.

She told Stylist magazine: “Bags maybe in the future but definitely shoes to start with.”

The former ‘X Factor’ judge wanted to design a shoe collection because she believes footwear is the key to making an outfit work.

She said:” Shoes are a part of your outfit that can absolutely make it. You can be wearing a plain outfit – black jeans and a black vest – but if you have a banging pair of shoes on, you’ve got a cool outfit.

“So, it just feels like the perfect thing for me to do.”

Victoria Beckham joins fight to save textile company

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2011

Victoria Beckham has joined a campaign to save a London textile company

The former Spice Girl and a host of other designers including Holly Fulton, Jonathan Saunders and Zandra Rhodes have designed a new bank note in order to keep London Printworks – one of the UK’s leading print factories – from closing.

These works of art will be sold to attempt to raise the £200,000 necessary to keep the company open next year after its funding was cut.

Victoria told Vogue.co.uk: “I am proud that my business is based in London and it is important that we nurture the skills and talent within the British Fashion Industry.

“The London Printworks is one of the few remaining facilities in the UK that offers the opportunity to create bespoke textiles and their great work has to be supported.”

The fashion designer has also been tweeting about the cause, and asking her followers to buy her cat print limited edition note.

She wrote: “My VictoriaCat limited edition £50 artnote for sale!! Supporting London textile charity #counterfeat http://www.counterfeat.co.uk xVB (sic). “

Freida Pinto loves the Indian influences in Chanel

By Andrea Petrou on December 15th, 2011

Freida Pinto loves the Indian influences in Chanel.

Although the Mumbai born actress often wears traditional saris for special occasions, she was thrilled to find that Karl Lagerfeld is hugely inspired by India when he designs for the French fashion house.

She told Britain’s Grazia magazine: “To be honest saris are still what we choose when we dress up. But more and more Indian women are becoming fans of Chanel. I have worn it several times and often go for the Indian-influenced things.

“People don’t often talk about the Indian motifs in Karl’s collections, but I wore a sari-inspired dress in 2010 and feel that the theme is often there in his work.”

Freida recently revealed she pays careful attention to her red carpet looks so she doesn’t replicate outfits.

She said: “I try not to repeat a shade I’ve used before. Everything needs to be in sync and seem like one perfect piece, one perfect look. At the end of the day, it has to have the wow factor, so whatever I wear has to be ‘wow’.

“My must-haves are a little black dress and a pair of simple earrings that can jazz up an entire outfit. I try to keep it simple and elegant.”

By Andrea Petrou on December 14th, 2011

Someone come and hide our credit cards now.

Having a shoe fetish we think we’re in huge trouble after seeing Christian Louboutin’s AW 2011/2012 range and we’re not sure we’ll be able to stop ourselves from clicking on the “buy” button.

The range this year is as fierce as ever. The studded heels in black as well as gold are by far our favourites but we also love the more delicate spider gemmed sandals as well as the satin shoes.

If you’ve been a good girl this year then we suggest revising that Christmas list to Santa right now, after all every girl needs a pair of these red soled lovlues in their wardrobes.

Amanda Seyfried doesn’t wash her hair very often

By Andrea Petrou on December 14th, 2011

Amanda Seyfried doesn’t like to wash her hair often.

The Mamma Mia! actress says the secret to her luscious blonde locks is not over-styling them and will only use shampoo and conditioner every three days.

She said: “Don’t wash it! I wash my hair every three days which is something I would’ve never imagined years ago, but I also use dry shampoo and my hair is even healthier.”

Amanda also revealed how she takes good care of her skin and tries to protect herself from the sun as much as possible.

She told Stylelist: “I’m really scared of the sun. During the day, I use the Gentle Protective Emulsion moisturiser with SPF. And I don’t go to bed without putting on La Creme. It smells really good and when I wake up, I know my face is going to feel really good.”

Amanda recently revealed she is becoming more aware with how she’s ageing, saying: “Living in a society where there’s so much attention given to age-defying products, I’m really aware of how my face is changing, even at my age.”

Tabitha Somerset Webb wants Duchess Catherine to wear one of her Project D designs.

By Andrea Petrou on December 14th, 2011

Tabitha Somerset Webb wants Duchess Catherine to wear one of her Project D designs.

The 36-year-old fashion designer – who co-created the clothing line alongside Dannii Minogue – is thrilled that Pippa Middleton has worn their pieces on two occasions this year, and is hopeful her older sister will soon follow suit.

She said: “Pippa has been amazing. It’s so flattering that she has chosen to wear our dresses. She looks gorgeous in them. She’s very much a Project D girl – elegant, classy and sexy.

“Now it would be great if her sister Kate wore one of our designs, too.”

However, Pippa – who wore Project D gowns to a friend’s wedding in September and to a recent charity event – is not the only royal fan of the line, as Tabitha explained Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie have also worn her creations to public functions.

Tabitha added in an interview with HELLO! magazine: “Princess Beatrice wore our red Crystal dress to Prince Philip’s 90th birthday party and Eugenie ordered our floral Lily gown for another private event.”
