Pictures: Chanel Paris-Bombay 2011/ 12 collection

By Andrea Petrou on December 7th, 2011

The fashion world took on a Bollywood theme last night with Karl Lagerfeld showing off his Chanel Paris-Bombay 2011/12 collection in Paris.

Indian inspired dresses in metallics, soft floaty fabrics and beads sauntered down the catwalk all giving a nod to the glamorous Bollywood look.

Jewelled bindis featured heavily on model’s make up, whilst golds, reds, greens in tunics and saris finished the looks.

We can’t wait to see how the highstreet interprets these.

Top five metallic dresses for the Christmas party season

By Andrea Petrou on December 7th, 2011

As we pointed out in our last post, metallics were hot on the AW 2011 catwalks. Balmain bought us the blazer, while Stella McCartney showed metallic pieces in sporty silhouettes, which is great news for the ladies who aren’t as girly as some.

And of course the highstreet is packed full of these sparkly lovelies, which brighten up any style, just in time for the Christmas party season.

Go for a simple tunic dress for a casual work party or go all out with a fierce bodycon number. If you’re not too keen on showing off those pins then there’s also a great range of metallic tees, which look great teamed up with shinny jeans.

See our top five picks in the gallery below.

By Andrea Petrou on December 7th, 2011

What better way to stand out at that Christmas party than with a little metallic number.
Gold and silver fabrics were hot on the aw 2011catwalks with designers such as Balmain and Vivienne Westwood fashioning them into jackets and others such as Stella McCartney going for this fabric in frocks.
To get the look just right this season, let metallics take centre stage and keep accessories minimal. Team up blazers with skinny black jeans and a plain t-shirt for a simple yet affective look.

Kate Moss giving chutney as Christmas gifts

By Andrea Petrou on December 6th, 2011

Kate Moss is making her friends jams and chutneys for Christmas.

The supermodel loves making her own preserves and intends to create some special chutneys to give away as gifts to her close pals during this year’s festive season.

A source told The Sun newspaper: “Some of Kate’s pals are really into cheese so she has told them to expect a surprise this Christmas.

“She loves cooking and experimenting with different flavours.”

This is not the first time Kate has put produce from her home in the Cotswolds, England, to good use, as she has also made fresh soaps with ingredients sourced from her garden.

A friend explained: “Kate has gone soap mad. She’s been trying to master the art after one of friends sent her a batch of home-made bars, which she loved.

“She’s adamant all the ingredients should be fresh and natural. She’s sent quite a few to her girlfriends to try out. Depending on the feedback, she’s thinking of releasing a range.”

Kate and her rocker husband Jamie Hince, who she married in July, are also set to head into the wine business, after she bought him a £130,000 vineyard in France so he can start pressing his own grapes.

Of their plans, a source said: “Jamie really appreciates a good drop and is quite knowledgeable about vintages and grapes, and Kate even picked up a couple of handy tips.

“Kate is planning on naming the wine after herself and has even suggesting using a Merlot grape to produce the inaugural Vin de Mossot.”

Georgia May Jagger loves using baby skincare ranges

By Andrea Petrou on December 6th, 2011

Georgia Jagger likes to use baby products on her skin.

The 19-year-old model – who is the daughter of rocker Sir Mick Jagger and model Jerry Hall – prefers natural face washes and creams so thinks those suited for newborn skin are ideal, particularly as they are usually so inexpensive.

She said: “I like beauty products to be quite natural, so I tend to use baby ones such as California Baby’s Super Sensitive Shampoo & Body Wash. It’s cheap and doesn’t have any nasty stuff in it.”

The beauty often looks to her mother for inspiration, and says some of her best tips come from the Texan star.

She added in an interview with Marie Claire magazine: “Ever since I was little, mum has stressed the importance of sleep and drinking lots of water. It’s really simple so they’re probably my top two beauty rules – that and to laugh a lot, because everyone looks better when they laugh.

“My sister Lizzie and I have inherited our mother’s love of a red lip – all three of us wear it as our fail-safe evening look. A good tip I picked up is to put some clear lip balm on your teeth to stop the lipstick coming off on them.”

Miranda Kerr regards her KORA Organics Noni juice skincare range to be “like food for the skin”.

By Andrea Petrou on December 6th, 2011

Miranda Kerr regards her KORA Organics Noni juice skincare range to be “like food for the skin”.

The Victoria’s Secret model struggled to find a skincare product that worked well before she created her cosmetics line – which features solutions made from natural ingredients such as rose-hip oil and pomegranate – and she finds Noni fruit a useful tool to use on the affects of sunburn.

She said: “I was looking for an organic product that really worked for me, but I couldn’t find one. I used to put it on my skin if I had a pimple or sunburn. It’s like food for the skin.”

The 28-year-old beauty – who has a 11-month-old son Flynn with her husband Orlando Bloom – admits she was a “guinea pig” for Kora by trying out every product in a bid to find something to treat her feet.

She added on her KORA Organics blog: “I was really the guinea pig for Kora; I tested everything. Being on my heels all the time, I wanted to create a cream to put on after a long day. And it doesn’t hurt that my husband, Orlando, is very good at massaging it into my feet.”

Sarah Jessica Parker dresses for her age

By Andrea Petrou on December 6th, 2011

Sarah Jessica Parker says she dresses for her age.

The 46-year-old actress insists she’s a “realist” about how she looks and isn’t worried about getting older.

The mother-of=three said: “I try to dress appropriately for my age and I’m a realist about what I look like. But if those physical things were my insecurities I’d be thrilled. What wonderful problems.

“My insecurities are more substantial than that. I worry first and foremost about my children and their health. My husband, and his. I worry about what work opportunities will come up. My own creative satisfaction. How will I pursue things and will the work be good?”

The ‘Sex and the City’ actress also said she doesn’t feel the need to have Botox and is hoping the film industry is starting to look down on it.

She told Stella magazine: “There are women [in television and in Hollywood] who feel that Botox is necessary, but more and more I don’t think it is important for the industry.

“People want to make movies that are successful, and sometimes they include women and sometimes they don’t. I think it’s less and less about exterior. At least I hope so.”

Christmas party dress inspiration from the red carpet premieres of New Year’s Eve and W.E

By Andrea Petrou on December 6th, 2011

If you’re looking for inspiration for that Christmas party outfit then this week’s red carpet events will give you just that.

Yesterday a huge host of A-listers turned up on the New Year’s Eve premiere red carpet in a range of frocks. Lea Michele shone in a stunning off-white long frock- perfect for more formal occasions – while Fergie and Hilary Swank went for embellished short numbers, which we think are perfect for that night out on the tiles.

Over on the W.E premiere red carpet Madonna sported the skinny jeans and blazer, which is a perfect alternative for frock fearing ladies, while Chloe Sevigny showed how to vamp up a Christmas party outfit in a red dress.

See the gallery below for more Christmas party frock inspiration.

Victoria Beckham thrilled to win Designer Brand of Year at British Fashion Awards

By shinychris on December 5th, 2011

Victoria Beckham at the British Fashion Awards at The Savoy in London - 28 November 2011

Victoria Beckham was “overwhelmed” to win Designer Brand of the Year at the British Fashion Awards.

The former Spice Girls star was thrilled to win the prestigious accolade with her eponymous label and was so shocked by the prize, she “lost the ability” to articulate herself.

She said: “I have to say I was not expecting to win and I was quite overwhelmed.

“I’ve never felt my heart beating so fast. I lost the ability to think or speak – my vocabulary just went out the window. It means so much to me.

“I had the most phenomenal team of people and I was up there on behalf of all of us and I really didn’t want to forget anyone. My mind was completely blank.”

While Victoria has won critical acclaim for her collection, she insists she has never worried about “proving” herself to other people, though she is very proud of her accomplishments.

She added in an interview with Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “People say to me, ‘Oh you’ve proved yourself to everybody…’ But that was never why I did this.

“I had a lot to prove to myself. I’m proud of myself. I’m proud of my team.”

The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor reaches New York ahead of auction

By Elisabeth on December 2nd, 2011

If there is one place we wish we were right now it is New York – and Christie’s – and The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor.

After completing a three month world tour, the iconic collection has now come to its final destination before it is being auctioned off later this month.  Among the pieces to be auctioned off are: the sunflower-yellow chiffon dress Taylor wore to her wedding to Richard Burton in 1964, an Andy Warhol lithograph portrait of the iconic Hollywood legend, personal mementoes and stunning jewellery pieces such as the diamond ring gifted to her by Richard.

A display of Old Hollywood glamour and the culture of America, this is an amazing collection that is almost sad to see being split apart.

The collection will be on display at Christie’s New York for ten days from tomorrow, Saturday 3December, before the auctions start on 13 December.

Take a look at some of the gems in the gallery below and visit www.christies.com for more information.
