Karl Lagerfeld gave a huge nod to green energy and sustainable living with his Spring/Summer 2013 collection for Chanel.
Towering wind turbines formed the backdrop of the show at Paris’ Grand Palais, while the statement Chanel pieces were given what looked like a growth spurt.
Pearls grew to proportionate levels, looking more like gobstoppers and were worn as bracelets and necklaces as well as nestled as hair bobbles in the models’ deliberately messy ponytails, while the statement quilted bag was also accentuated with black leather hula hoop handles.
The traditional Chanel suit, was given a new look with summer colours, while sporty fabrics including lightweight mesh and embossed jersey, alongside transparent PVC and plexiglass completed the renewable energy theme.
Further evidence of this was channelled through tube style dresses and long trousers, while nature’s goodness continued with the introduction of honeycomb bodices and black patent beekeeper hats, which gave a nod to the innocent bee.
