Gilets are an autumn staple. Adding an extra style touch to your look as well as keeping you snug and warm as the seasons change. Now is the perfect time to get your hands on one. If you’re not familiar with gilets, they are sleeveless jackets made in a variety of styles, materials and colours.

Ski

Some of the hottest gilets this season belong to ski wear ranges. Superdry offers a variety of colours both with and without a fur-lined hood. Superdry’s ‘University Gilet’ comes in one of this season’s biggest colours – deep red. Blonde & Blonde also offer quilted ski gilets in a range of colours.

Heritage

Paul’s Boutique’s A/W range which can be found at Bank Fashion includes a selection of gilets inspired by the 80s. Diamond quilted with a cord trim collar, these gilets are statement pieces to be teamed with skinny black jeans, high tops and chunky headphones. Ghetto blaster optional.

Sports

To complement this season’s sportswear trend, Adidas have created a range of bright padded gilets. The best in the range combines black, purple, red and pink and would look perfect teamed with chunky gold accessories and skinny white jeans.

Faux Fur

Faux fur gilets have been around for the last few A/W seasons but they still look fresh and on-trend. Topshop have updated the look by adding a tassle hem and a light cream colour. Worn over a white blouse, black leather trousers and high ankle boots, these gilets will keep you warm until S/S 2013. Or try Matthew Williamson’s brown faux fur panelled gilet, it’s almost impossible to tell it isn’t real fur.

Leather

Leather is definitely the material of the season. Leather trousers or a jacket are the obvious choices but a gilet allows you to join the trend without fully committing to the leather look. A leather gilet with thin hoodie and straight light wash jeans will be a key look this season. For a dressier leather gilet, try Haider Ackermann’s long brown leather version.

Animal Print

As an extension of S/S 2012′s tribal trend, animal print will be hanging around for the new season. Alice & Olivia have created a stunning leopard print gilet that can be worn with dark jeans as a casual day outfit and dressed up with accessories and enhanced make up for the evening. Paul’s Boutique is offering an alternative animal print option with padding and a fur trim hood.
