Jimmy Choo launches Project PEP capsule collection for charity at Selfridges

By Andrea Petrou on October 22nd, 2009

Jimmy Choo PEP.jpgGet your hands on some Jimmy Choo accessories without feeling guilty about spending.

The shoe designer has teamed up with the Elton John AIDS Foundation to create the ‘PEP-up Shop’ featuring a host of limited edition Jimmy Choo products, made especially for the project.

The event, which takes place at Selfridges from Friday 30 October, will only last for 72 hours (yes we’ll be queuing from dawn too), and will include exclusive products such as a cuff, ID-tag and a mobile strap.

And, as we told you before, you won’t need to feel guilty about spending as Jimmy Choo will donate 25% of the sales of the Project PEP capsule collection directly to the Simelela centre. This will give victims access to vital life saving treatments that have to be administered within the first 72 hours of exposure to HIV. We see it as giving our annual charity donation early.

And it doesn’t end there. The designer has also created website and is asking everyone to upload photos of themselves wearing their Choo’s, as part of a campaign entitled ‘You, Your Shoes and 72.’

Images will be showcased at the global launch of Project PEP at Selfridges and 100 of the best pictures will win products from the Jimmy Choo capsule collection.

Visit JimmyChoo72.com for more information.

Swarvoski brings out another two collections

By Andrea Petrou on August 28th, 2009

elvis ins.jpg
Swarovski is turning out its new collection by the glittery dozen this year, hence why I have been talking about it so much.

Now it has launched two more collections (I think someone might have to hide my bank card now).

The first collection to grab me today is this gorgeous range of rings with crystals (well we wouldn’t expect anything else). You can pick a ring with as little or as many crystals are you want. We love the Harlequin ring, which has just one big crystal as its main focus and the Flirt ring has a singular crystal surrounded by individual crystals.

If this wasn’t enough, its second collection gives even more choice. The Nature Reloaded collection, which gives a funky edge to the Swarvoski range by introducing little characters, is an update to the company’s previous range (I know this because I’ve lusting after everything in this collection since last year).

For those that know the collection as well as I do Erika is a little fairy, Elvis, always more gloomy, takes the shape of an insect. If we’ve confused you, have a look at the picture above.

Macs and hats to keep you dry this winter

By Andrea Petrou on August 24th, 2009

Puzzle raincoat.JPGIf, like us you’re one of those girls, who has hair that looks, well, like a bush when it gets wet in the rain then you’ll love this new collection by Caro London.

The designer has launched its autumn/winter collection of macs and hats, which, yes you guessed it, are 100% waterproof. In fact they are so nice, we’re almost (almost) wishing for wet weather.

They are available in Caro’s distinctive prints; Puzzle and Woodblock, but this season the company has also added turquoise and purple prints to its range. And if that’s not enough there’s also matching hats in the same designs.

At £90 for the mac and £20 for the hat, these aren’t the cheapest range on the waterproof block, but if they can save our newly blowdried hair then we think they are definitely worth it.

Online boutique that has us wanting more

By Andrea Petrou on August 21st, 2009

sugarhill057.jpgWith internet fashion becoming so popular, it seems online fashion stores are launching faster than you can say Chanel.

However, we’ve completely fallen in love with this new internet shopping heaven, that popped onto web yesterday.

The Stellar Boutique is bursting full of one-off gems and includes, vintage, retro and high fashion pieces and includes designs from up and coming creators including Sugarhill Boutique (we love the butterfly dress, pictured) Lia Lee and Dahlia.

But it’s not just clothes, oh no, this site offers everything apart from the kitchen sink. Get your hands on home ware, accessories such as sun glasses, and menswear (perfect if you need to sweeten him up when he sees all your purchases.)

Bags that send us up the high street

By Andrea Petrou on August 21st, 2009

Suzi Smith bag.JPG
Handbags have always been one of my weaknesses, I refuse to stop buying them and refuse to give any away either.

And thanks to Suzi Smith I am now in need of going shopping again. The handbag designer has launched a range of brightly coloured pastel bags in quirky fun shapes, which will keep us going until the end of September (well with this designer anyway.)

Made from fabrics such as mottled snakes and shiny patents as well as frills, quilting, and bows, these bags can be used both during the day and night.

Well we think that’s a better excuse than any to get our hands on one of these.

Top ten alternatives to Henry Holland tights

By Andrea Petrou on August 18th, 2009

Now I know I should stay away from tights and brightly coloured ones at that, after my past fashion faux pas, which I admitted to you last week.

However, this week, we couldn’t resist telling you about Pixie Geldof’s new fashion look, bought on by flamboyan designer Henry Holland.

The up and coming fashion fellow has designed a collection of hosiery for Pretty Polly, which launched this week at Selfridges. And celebs, including Pixi Geldof and Agyness deyn are already covering their pins in his designs made from sheer and opaque fabrics.

These include his trademark purple, with a cream rhinestone-encrusted band around the thigh and mid calf, and a style he’s christened the “moc stock” which looks like a pair of stockings but is in fact a far more practical pair of tights.

The tights are a leg hugging £10 per pair. They are available from Selfridges now and nationwide from September.

However, for those that can’t get to the store or can’t wait that long we’ve put together a range of other alternatives, after all we can’t deny any longer that the tights season will be soon upon us, and dusting out last season’s ones might bring a few shocks.

Miu Miu studded leather wallet a nice little pre-Easter treat

By kelly on April 8th, 2009

miumiu_studded_wallet.jpg

It’s amazing how sometimes something as simple as sticking a few gold studs around the edge of a leather wallet elevates it into something I am finding I very much need to have in my handbag.

Miu Miu are the ones who have done this miraculous little thing, made from midnight blue cracked leather with a zip fastening, and perfect for holding all your cards and cash. Great to throw in your bag for day, and pretty enough to take out on its own at night. It’s $415 from US Net-a-Porter.

Sassy starlet hair clips

By Andrea Thatcher on March 23rd, 2009

star hair clips.jpg

When you’re in the mood for whimsy, Shana Logic’s online shop is the place to go. Browsing around the Punk Rock Sass category I found these awesome Ukiyo5 star hairclips, $10. Lurve, want, need, all that. The spiral backings allow you to simply twist into place and not worry about them falling out all night. That does of course mean they won’t actually do much in the way of clipping or holding hair. But when something’s this cute, who needs function?

Designer Pick of the Week: Marc Jacobs Collection resin bangles

By Andrea Thatcher on March 10th, 2009

Marc Jacobs bangles.jpg

If you’re looking to update your wardrobe for spring with some fun new accessories, I think these Marc Jacobs Collection resin bangles are a great way to go. Fun colors and designs make them a little different and definitely Marc.

To really see how cool they are don’t rely on the image at right, but click on the link above and use the zoom feature to check out the sparkly, spacy inlay. I have a feeling these are one of those things you’ll stare at all day when you wear them.

For around $350, they are a pretty penny, but I know I’d get a lot of use out of them.

Bargain Pick of the Week: Kimchi Blue Woven Hinge Wallet

By Andrea Thatcher on February 26th, 2009

Bargain wallet.jpg

Have some cash left to actually fill this wallet after you buy it. The Kimchi Blue woven hinge wallet has a “I picked this up at the bazaar” quality to it, but you can buy it at Urban Outfitters for only $12.99.

There’s plenty of pockets inside and plenty of style outside. Plus in gold you can use it with whatever purse you want, or call me crazy but I think it would make a cute clutch when you’re headed out to the bar.

Bing Bang by Anna Sheffield brass cuff

By Andrea Thatcher on February 25th, 2009

Blue Brass Mixed Chain Cuff 2.JPG

I have to say I hope cuffs never go away. I know, I know, they’d come back around again. But I’m not ready to let them go. With statement necklaces all over the Fall 09 runways, statement bracelets are surely still in the running for spring.

This blue brass mixed chain cuff by Bing Bang by Anna Sheffield was part of a collaborative presentation with clothing designer Bensoni during fashion week. With the lasting precious materials Sheffield is known for, this is no Forever 21 throwaway, but it won’t break the bank either. The designer’s Bing Bang line is more affordable and brass cuffs are generally in the $200 range.

New York Fashion Week: Tory Burch backstage gallery

By Andrea Thatcher on February 19th, 2009

Tory Burch is smart about this recession business. She didn’t sacrifice the luxe factor for her Fall 09 collection, far from it, she seems to have upped the sophistication and chic styling. But a big part of her collection? The affordable statement necklace.

“We spent a lot of time on costume jewelry, shoes and handbags,” she said backstage before her show. “[The jewelry] is all made by hand and will be available in stores and on the Web site.”

I love that, because a lot of times the jewelry for a show is one-of-a-kind and can’t be purchased, or certainly can’t be purchased by the average jane. What is TB thinking for fall 09?

“My favorite piece for fall is ths soft white jacket with feather detail … the skinny leather pants I love … every look in [this collection] I would wear myself.”
