Gap launches first ever UK perfume

By Andrea Petrou on October 15th, 2009

Gap Close.jpgGirls that like Gap’s style will be pleased to hear that the high street store is launching its first ever UK perfume next Monday.

Close, has reportedly been inspired by the classic Gap wardrobe, meaning we can expect a crisp, fresh scent, and has been created by Gap creative director Patrick Robinson.

Patrick said: “My team is constantly reworking our formula to keep Gap cool and relevant. That’s the most important thing to me.

“Being sexy is part of that lifestyle, and that was the first criteria for this fragrance. It had to be sexy, sensual and beautiful.”

We like to see Gap has also kept its prices low with this scent. Prices start at £5.

Sweet Obsessions includes nine eyecolours, each named after a scrumptious dessert, which will make an impact on your eyes and not your waistline.

You can blend and mix colours, which include Berry Custard, Strawberry milkshake, Berry Flambé, Deep violet, Cherry Coco Truffle, Dark cherry chocolate, Crème de Menthe and Emerald espresso, or just go for the one for a sweet but sexy look.

However we think the icing on the cake is the fact that this collection is 100% free of preservatives, waxes, fragrances and other chemical irritants.

Barry M launches Blue lipstick

By Andrea Petrou on October 8th, 2009

image002.jpgIt seems it’s not going to be the icy winter that turns our lips blue this year. Blue has made its high street debut as the colour for lips this season with Barry M Cosmetics’ new shade coming in from the cold.

The striking statement, first seen on the catwalk at Louis Vuitton and Gautier last year, and directional magazine shoots ever since, is now poised to hit the big-time, with the ice cool look set to be red hot this winter.

Brave beauty queens should make this futuristic lip look the statement, wearing other minimal make up.

The lipstick, which costs £4.25 will be available from mid October. If you can’t wait until then we suggest sticking your face in the freezer for a couple of hours.

Safe Beauty Association moves to rule out unhygenic and dangerous practices in the beauty industry

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2009

face_and_beauty.jpgWe’ve all heard the horror stories about beauty treatments going wrong whether it’s a nail infection from a dirty instrument, to torn skin after an overzealous nail technician has got too cuticle happy. I unfortunately have had a personal experience with this.

Then there are the other stories, which frankly make DIY treatments seem like the better option. These include burnt and blistered legs and nether regions, from wax that is too hot or that has been reused from another client.

Research conducted by the Safe Beauty Association (SBA) has also found that over a third of beauty salons have no public liability insurance and are carrying out unsafe practices such as make up artists using old brushes and “double-dipping” leading to the spreading of germs.

Doesn’t make for pleasant reading does it?

Thankfully it seems the beauty industry has woken up to these problems and has launched a new campaign to promote safe beauty practices in the industry.

Called “Hidden Truth. Safe Beauty”, the campaign hopes to change the face of the beauty industry by highlighting how bad hygiene and poor working practice can lead to infections and disease.

From this month the SBA, will provide a range of free and paid-for services to support professionals and encourage them to make changes across the beauty industry. It will also form a code of practice to raise the standard of the industry and ensure these practices are wiped out as quickly as your leg hair during a waxing.

Antonia Hawke founder and chief executive at the SBA said: “Without the ugly truth, there is no motivation to change the norms of the industry. It will take courage and determination to engage with and convince the industry to work towards a more responsible Code or Practice, with health and hygiene at its core. ‘Safe beauty’ is our watchword. And when you think about it, should there ever be any other kind?”

YSL launches a perfume claimed to have an edgier, younger scent than the brand’s iconic Paris fragrance.

By Andrea Petrou on October 6th, 2009

ysl-parisienne-1254770971.jpgIf you like to smell like a designer dolly then you’ll be thrilled to hear Yves Saint Laurent Beauté has launched a new feminine fragrance.

Parisienne has been inspired by the glamour and seductive allure of a Parisian woman and is described as an edgier, younger scent than the brand’s iconic Paris fragrance.

The floral woody scent opens with a vinyl accord, said to add a modern twist to the fragrance and evokes the gloss, varnish (we really hope it doesn’t smell like this) or metal of a spike heel.

It is balanced with cranberry and blackberry. There is also hints of damask rose, violet and peony, while patchouli, musk, sandalwood, which the company claims adds “depth at the base”.

We haven’t yet smelt the fragrance, which is also available in a body lotion, deodorant and shower gel but if supermodel Kate Moss is the face of the fragrance, we’re sure it won’t be too bad.

Chanel launches a range of limited edition nail varnishes

By Andrea Petrou on September 24th, 2009

chanel-jade-collection-1253731374-1253735244.jpgEvery now and again I like to indulge myself with a bottle of designer nail varnish.

It’s easy to put on, dries quickly (most of the time) and doesn’t chip as easily as my favourite high street brand and Chanel’s new range is something I’m definitely going to get my hands on.

The couture designer has announced its Jade Nail Polish Collection in two limited edition colours, Jade Rose and Jade.

They are said to mirror the jade jewelry and the pink knit and pistachio tweed of Chanel’s ready-to-Wear Autumn/Winter 2009-2010 collection.

It is also claimed that the jade colour was picked out as it resembled the green tweed skirt suit from the collection.

We know we’ll be fighting tooth and nail to get one of these limited colours when the range hits the shops in October.

Get the look: Freida Pinto’s make-up at the GQ Men of the Year Awards

By Andrea Petrou on September 10th, 2009

Freida.JPGFreida Pinto has been a key person to watch ever since she exploded onto our screens in Slumdog Millionaire and her fashion style always amazes me.

I’ve seen numerous photos of her looking every inch the starlet in high street store clothes and I think she sets a great example.

And it seems we can also now get her look makeup wise too. At the GQ Men of the Year Awards this week Freida used Cosmetics La Carte.

Her makeup artist, artist Joe Hopker, said: “This time I wanted to create a sultry glittery effect, so I used the lively Starshine in ‘Storm’ (£15) on the eyes. I also used the Cheek Tint in Coral (£22), which creates a beautiful, fresh, apricot glow to the cheeks.”

As Freida has quite dry skin, Joe used the Hydra Mist (£20) fine spray body moisturizer on Freida’s arms and legs to create a sexy sheen.

I can’t wait to try out some of these products, maybe if I’m lucky they may even help me bag a millionaire.

Review: Scholl Cracked heel repair cream

By Andrea Petrou on September 4th, 2009

Cracked Heel.JPGDue to many factors, I haven’t had my monthly pedicures this year (gasp with shock or sigh with sympathy as appropriate), in fact I don’t think I’ve had one all year.

Wearing flip flops all summer, walking around bare foot and on the sand has therefore left my feet in a state, where they should be hidden inside some very thick socks. So I was quite pleased when Scholl sent me its newest Cracked Heel Repair Cream K+ to test out.

Now this may not be the sexiest product on the market, and I advise you use it when your other half is out/ too absorbed in the football. It’s said to work within 7 days and show visible results within three.

See how I got on after the jump.

Cheryl Cole gets crowned as the new face of L’Oreal

By Andrea Petrou on September 1st, 2009

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Cheryl Cole.

Her style is usually spot on and she’s disgustingly gorgeous.

So it’s hardly come as any surprise that she’s been given the new face of L’Oreal crown, well, it was only a matter of time.

Cheryl joins the likes of other celebrities who have modelled for the brandl including Beyoncé, Linda Evangelista and Jennifer Aniston but she’s the first British woman to grace the brand since Kate Moss in 1998.

She’ll be the face of a hair product called Elvive Full Restore 5, which will hit the shops next month.

Hmm, now we don’t like to judge but we think she may have to sort out her current hair colour before then.

She may be a style queen but that cherry look is really not screaming she’s worth it at the moment.

Skin cream that’s good enough for celebs, is good enough for us

By Andrea Petrou on August 27th, 2009

Thumbnail image for Caviar box.JPGSummer’s always hard on my skin. I sit out in the sun for too long, dry my skin out with chlorine and smoke far too much in the summer evening beer gardens.

I know my skin hates me for it but I’ve come across something that may make it forgive me a little bit and prevent it from dishing out another wrinkle, as punishment.

The Caviar cream is a favourite with A-list stars celebs such as Kate Moss, Angelina Jolie, Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Aniston.

It’s a multifunctional anti-aging cream, which is said to nourish and energise skin and hopefully keep the wrinkles at bay.

At £59, it’s not cheap but if it’s good enough for the celebs then I may splash out and watch as it performs its miracle worthy of an A list oscar.

Christmas pampering comes early

By Andrea Petrou on August 24th, 2009

Champneys footspaYou may think we’ve gone a little bit crazy talking about Christmas when we’ve got (hopefully) a few more months of the summer left, but we can guarantee the festive season will be upon us as quickly as you can say mulled wine.

Thankfully Champneys is on the same festive wavelength as us. It’s launched its Home Spa Beauty range, which it claims is a perfect way to look and feel a million dollars at this year’s Christmas parties.

Now we know Christmas is supposed to be about giving but even we agree it’s far too early to think about other people and this range is definitely all about us.

Those that hate getting their feet out will love the Massaging Bubble Action Deluxe Footspa, which has a jet action footspa and accu-pressure massage rollers. The moving pedicure system also claims to ensure feet are baby soft.

The Champneys Paraffin Wax Heat Therapy System is also a great way to soothe and hydrate dry skin before a manicure or pedicure and is also ideal for elbows and heels especially before applying any festive fake tan.

We also love the Infrared Massage System, which works in the same way as well, a professional masseuse, by relaxing and toning muscles to help open pores, perfect for the morning after a big night out.

The range is available at John Lewis, Amazon and Comet.
